Welcome Home

Everette.

Disgusting river of lost souls, I get a little closer and I already have more than a dozen human souls on me. Pathetic humans, they are pathetic even after death. I do not understand how the Celestials can be so patient with such insignificant beings.

I think we should have a section set aside for human souls, but instead they are haunting all of hell. My father makes no effort to bring order around here, only to create chaos up there.

" Master" one of my slaves calls me. "Your presence has been requested in the big playhouse."

The big playhouse. The place where demons, ghosts, and all sorts of creatures gather. Being in that place is a death trap if you don't know how to control yourself, and that's because Asmodeus does his job very well. Once my father got the humans to make their own playhouses, he was given the superintendency of all of them, including hell. It is thanks to him that humans develop ludopatia.

Those beings are never satisfied, they always want more and more, thanks to that in the end they end up rotting like the miserable ones they are. It is very entertaining.

I materialize at the entrance of the playhouse. The facade of the place is, like almost everything in hell, enormous. The columns rise from the floor to the top, it is very difficult to see where the top is. A red carpet covers every inch of the place, it was stained with the blood of hundreds of animals, this to detect if any demon tries to cheat at gambling. Asmodeus has a special connection with animals, although you can't really blame him for seeing their true form.

Many demons change their original form for a more grotesque one, although this is very uncommon, Asmodeus loves to do it. The greater the desire we awaken in others, the more power we have over them. That is our best way to deceive humans, to bring them down because of their dark desires. The place is illuminated by some souls and hundreds of candles, it is elegant, but some spectres there ruin the atmosphere.

The music, light but hypnotizing, that impels you to participate in the games, floods my ears once I enter the main hall, I see the entities playing, some of them have been here for millennia.

"Everette!" the exclamation of Asmodeus, as always with an unnecessary emotion helps me place him among the thousands of presents.

Once my eyes settle on him, a smile takes over my face.

"I see that you have your true form. That is very unusual for you."

Asmodeus has three heads, a bull's head, a man's head, a ram's head, a snake's tail and goose's feet. On this occasion he has a normal shape, two legs that are similar to humans but not so useless and with little resistance, two arms and a head, he chose to wear his hair intense red, his eyes green, but he could not disguise his fangs.

He loves his form, considers himself beautiful in every way, is a total scoundrel, eats in public. Most demons are very embarrassed to eat in public, that's because many times their unoriginal shapes make something as simple as eating look grotesque, in my opinion it's incredible.

"Today is a special day, my dear friend..." he walks towards me and I notice his formal suit, perfectly dressed in gray.

"What's the occasion? "I raise an eyebrow.

His smile becomes wider and creepier, which motivates me to smile at him.

"A new human soul will become a demon," he announces.

And with that simple comment my smile disappears and is replaced by a grimace of disgust.

"Why is that a reason to celebrate? It seems to me the most stupid law ever created, humans do not deserve to become immortal."

"It's a law created by your father, and you know it's very rare for that to happen." comes into my ear to whisper. "This soul has been assigned to me"

I stand back and watch him with mock.

"I pity you." pat him on the back and turn around to leave the room.

"On the contrary, I pity you." and with that phrase I turn around in confusion.

"What do you mean?"

Asmodeus smiles wickedly.

"You owe me a favor, dear friend."

And that's when I realize.

"You wouldn't be able to." I close my eyes in the form of a threat.

He laughs out loud, and a piece of hair appears in his hand.

" It is its essence, so you can know where it is." he explains, still laughing.

"Damn you, Asmodeus." I exclaim, grunting and grabbing the hair.

I am well aware that I owe this wretch a favor, but I never expected him to play his cards so well until he got rid of having to guard that human soul.

"Damn us, that's why we're great." wink. "Don't get mad, you're like a brother to me, but dealing with human souls is not my thing."

"You know better than anyone else that I don't tolerate humans."

"Oh, come on."makes a gesture with his hand, playing down the importance. "It is not a human, it is only a human soul that will become a demon, now you have a new soul that is under your power."

"I don't need any more souls than I already have."

"Be that as it may, it is your problem now. Let the darkness be in your path."

"And guide my destiny," I murmur.

I turn around and walk away from the place, which is already a little more crowded. When I find myself outside, I sigh loudly and look at the little lock of hair between my hands.

I have to finish this soon.

I concentrate on materializing my energy at the border of life and death, an empty and lonely place, where there are so many souls that the air is heavy, a human would die if he came even a little closer. I feel how the hair helps me find my way through the thick fog, and in the distance I visualize a silhouette.

I approach and see a girl curled up on the ground, her expression is melancholic and she looks at a fixed point, I stand in front of her and look up until her eyes settle on me. She stares at me with a distant face.

"Who are you?" she asks after a while.

"On your feet, we have to get out of here." I turn around and start to walk, her steps follow me and she takes my arm, but I suddenly get out of the way. "Don't touch me again." I threaten her.

Her blue eyes look at me in fear.

"I don't know where I am, I don't want to be in this place."

"Nobody wants to, but everybody has to die sometime, it's the only thing humans are good for. To die. Now, if you don't hurry, I will leave you here." I walk once more and feel her presence behind me.

Again, I materialize out of there, followed by her. We appear at the top of a hill, down you can see some places of my home, but it is too big to see it completely, on the horizon there is still much more out of sight for her, instead I can see even the tiniest corner.

"Where are we?"

"Welcome to your new home." I turn around and smile at her with malice."Hell."

Her expression is a poem, I have to make an enormous effort not to laugh and petrify her with that expression. Her face is flooded with terror and her eyes seem to come out of her skull.

"Hell?" she whispers more to herself than to me.

"Exactly" I say with mockery. "Surprised? You should have listened to mommy and daddy when they told you to be good."

Her gaze is fixed on the landscape which I think is magnificent, but she denies it again and again.

"It has to be a joke, I can't be in hell. At what point did I die?" her face is filled with panic and I laugh underneath.

"You tell me, I don't know anything about you."I shrug my shoulders "I don't care much either, but unless you want me to call you scum for all eternity, you should tell me your name."

"Aisha" slowly her eyes settle on me. " I am Aisha."

"Very well, it is not a pleasure, I assure you."

"What is your name?"

"Everette," I answer dryly.

"It's cute," she smiles slightly.

'Did your panic to be here go so fast?" I raise an eyebrow as I look at her from top to bottom.

Humans usually bury their dead with white clothes, as if that would assure that they would go with the Celestials, this girl is not the exception, she wears a white dress that reaches her ankles, her dark brown hair falls to her shoulders, being a soul her complexion is completely pale.

"I don't think I'm suppose to be here. It must be a mistake, you have to get me out."

I laugh and refuse.

"I am sorry, but there are no mistakes here, you are in Hell, you are part of this place now, and you will be for all eternity."

"How did I even get here?" her exasperation returns.

"There are humans who are evil, vengeful, and greedy, all their souls come to end here, many times to the hall of killers or to the river of lost souls, some humans are naturally evil, those are many times condemned to the abyss of fire, but if the strength of their soul is enough, they become demons, like you."

"I am a demon now?" she asks in fear.

I put my fingers on my hundred and sigh for patience.

"I have just told you that you will be."

"Why are you so beautiful?"

I look at her now with grace.

"Does it bother you?"

"You are a demon, but you have no red skin, no trident. Nor do you have a grotesque form that frightens."

Humans and their ridiculous belief.

"Let's see, the demons, all of them, were angels. Do you think angels are horrible? I can change my form just like all the demons, many times we are left with a grotesque form but it is for mere pleasure."

"So there are ugly demons."

"I can see that you are quite stupid. As if I had time to deal with you too." I close my eyes with hatred. " Now you are mine."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me, you belong to me, don't think the idea of you belonging to me excites me, but on this occasion I had no choice."

"I am not an object" she crosses her arms.

"You are a human soul, an object has much more value than you."

A roar startles her, a dragon flies over us and stays a short distance away, its wings begin to contract until they become arms and finally it converts to its true form.

"My son", he says.

"Hello father", I greet him.

He smiles pleased and walks toward us, his glance stops in the soul and raises an eyebrow in surprise.

"I did not know that you had got a new soul." he says as he approaches it and takes its hand to kiss it. "A pleasure."

"Hello", the girl answers self-consciously.

I roll my eyes as I see how she still has her pathetic human instincts.

"I hope my son will be kind to you." she smiles at her and walks away to approach me" I will go to see your mother."

"Yuck" I grimace and make him laugh.

"Heavenly people are fun when they are irritated, one day I will show you, until I come back you are in charge."

"Very well. May the darkness be in your path."

"And guide my destiny."

He bows to the soul once more, and his body transforms into a dragon to fly away.

"Your father is very kind." she says with me. "You should be like him."

"My father's job is to make bad things look like good things, it takes charisma to do that." I roll my eyes. "Besides, he loves running this place."

"Running it?" wonders frightened. "Is he...?"

"The Devil" I mean for her. "Now you belong to the son of the Devil."
