End of The First Day

Sapphire POV:

Ruby was quite adamant about pushing everyone real hard in team training, even herself, for some reason. Maybe she wanted to make a good impression? Anyway, with all the team maneuvers and heavy practice, everyone was quite tired by the end of the session, so no one complained when we decided to have dinner in our room.

We ran into team JNPR in the cafeteria, and, when we told them that we were going to eat in our room, they weren't surprised. Apparently, a rumor was going around about a certain Rose that was like an atleasian bootcamp instructor.

We talked for a little before we grabbed our choices of meals and headed back to the dorm.

Does Ruby eat cookies with every meal?

-----------------------------------------------------

-Flop

Immediately after we enter our dorm for the night, Weiss and Yang set their food on their desks and flop into bed; Weiss's and mine respectively. I choose to ignore Yang's use of my bed, and turn my attention to my other teammates.

Ruby and Blake filter into the room after them, and they also seem exhausted. I follow in after them, and, while I am tired, I am nowhere near as exhausted as everyone else. I close and lock the door behind me, and turn my attention back to Blake and Ruby.

Sleep seems to call to them, but they have enough sense to not try to sleep just yet. We all still need to get cleaned up and eat before we go to bed.

Blake sets her meal on her desk, takes off her heeled boots, grabs some sort of black 'robe?' from the closet, and walks into the bathroom. I hear the bathroom door lock engage, and, a minute later I hear the shower turn on.

Ruby also puts her meal on her desk and enters the closet, and she comes out with what looks like some sleep wear. She holds white sweats with pink polka dots and a black tank top with a heart on the chest. I also noticed the red-eyed sleeping mask that is dangling from her hands, underneath the clothes. Ruby sets her stuff down on her desk before removing her cape and boots. She then sits on her desk and waits for Blake to finish showering.

I don't just stand around either, and I start getting ready for the night. I set my food on my desk, go into the closet, and grab my sleepwear; a tight-fitting but comfortable all-black tanktop and a pair of yoga pants of the same color. I had to buy some new sleepwear on my way to the airship this morning, as my old set had gotten some damage, and it wasn't worth it to get them repaired. I had gone for tighter fitting clothing this time because with my olderser, which was loose-fitted, it would bunch up and become uncomfortable to sleep in sometimes.

Anyway, I follow ruby's example and take off my cape and boots, along with my mask and the rest of my armor. I sit at my desk in a sports bra and spats, I always wear them under my armor, and wait my turn in the shower.

---------------------------------------------------

I walk out of the bathroom after I had taken my shower, and I see Weiss, who has returned to the land of the living, waiting to take her shower. She notices me too, and her face quickly grows red.

"W-w-why are you naked?!" She quietly shrieks, gaining the attention of everyone else in the room besides Yang, she's all but dead to the world.

"Hm? Because I just got out of the shower?" I answer confusedly.

She seemed stunned at my reply, so I walked past her to my desk where I left my clothes. The only person who seems to mind my presence is Weiss, but Ruby's depressed gaze is hard to ignore.

"We're the same age…" I hear from the other side of the room, but I pretend I didn't.

Blake's gaze, however I couldn't ignore, as they focused on the noticeable scars on my skin. I felt some shame crawl up, so I hurried up in clothing myself. I slip on my underwear, yoga pants, and tank top, I don't wear a bra, as what kind of sane person would, and my attention is returned to Weiss with her shriek.

"Have you no shame!? You could have at least covered yourself with a towel!" She says, having broken out of her stunned silence.

"Why would I feel shame from you all seeing me naked? We live together now isn't this normal?" I ask, still confused.

"I mean, yes and no, Sapphire," I hear Blake interject.

"Really?" I ask, surprised.

I mean, I haven't had to deal with living with other people since my time at the facility, and privacy wasn't really a thing when I was there. Every one of us were put into the same cell, and we all showered, changed, and slept together. Though, I guess I shouldn't take my time there as an example of what is normal.

"Yes, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. We live in a dorm with a shared bedroom, bathroom, and closet. I doubt we will be able to always be 'decent' around each other," Blake replies.

"Thanks Blake, and Weiss, I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable," I apologize to Weiss.

She takes a deep breath, and calms herself, "No, Blake is right. This will become quite common if we live together, and I will have to get used to it. Let's just move on."

I nod my head, and she turns around to enter the bathroom. When the door locks behind her I feel something brush against my tail, and a shiver runs up my spine. I quickly turn around, and I notice Yang has turned in her sleep. Her arm probably brushed against my tail when she did.

Now that my attention is on Yang, I realize that I should probably wake her up. It's not a good feeling to go to bed hungry, and she still has to take a shower.

I gently shake her by the shoulders, and say, "Come on, get up, Little Sun, you can't sleep yet."

She doesn't react.

"Get up Yang," I shake her more aggressively this time, but still no response.

That's it.

I place my hand on her exposed stomach and cool the area with my semblance. She reacts with a start, and jumps away from my hand, falling off the other side of my bed.

"Rise and shine," I say sarcastically.

She just sits up and rubs the back of her head.

"What was that for?!" she asks me.

"You haven't taken a shower or eaten dinner yet, Yang. Hurry up and get ready, you're after Weiss!" I urge.

"Alright, alright," She half-heartedly replies, before standing up and walking to the closet.

-------------------------------------------------------

A fair bit of time has passed, and everyone is well into their dinners. I had moved our desk tables together in the center of the room, so we could talk while we ate.

"Alright, now that everyone's settled down, we need to talk," I start the conversation, and everyone turns their attention to me.

"I'm going to be honest here, you all need some work. I already talked to Yang about her problems, but I elected to wait with the rest of you," I continue.

"During our fights I noticed some frankly unacceptable issues," I say.

"Weiss, I'll start with you. You had formal duel training, right?" I ask Weiss who is eating a fancy looking dish that I do not recognize.

"Yes, I did, why?" she asks back.

"Well it shows, your skill was well above what I was expecting," I start.

"You have good eyes," she says with some pride.

Yang whispers, "I feel a big 'but' coming up."

"But, "there it is", your endurance sucks, you're helpless without your weapon, and you're stiff in your actions," I continued with Yang whispering her confirmation when I did.

Her head drops down, and she doesn't even try to argue.

"There's nothing I can directly do to help you be less stiff. That has to do with experience in actual fights, and you will accumulate that. My main issue is with the other two. Your endurance needs serious improvement. Your lack of stamina limits you greatly, and, in our fight, it caused you to be unable to act like you wished in favor of preserving it. You don't take hits well either, and that is not good. Being incapacitated during a fight can easily lead to you're death," I lectured.

"I know," Weiss replies with a sigh.

"Your helplessness without your weapon is a flaw that you share with Ruby. You both became basically sitting ducks when you were disarmed. Tell me, Weiss, do you need Myrtenaster in order to use your glyphs?" I continue.

"No, I can use them without Myrtenaster, but I can't add dust effects without it," She answers.

"Then why didn't you use them?" I ask.

"I-I don't know," She answers.

"Tunnel vision, that's why," I answered for her.

"What?" She asked, confused.

"You were disarmed, and that's all you could think about. That is something that can be fixed with experience, but it is a problem," I clarify.

"Blake," I address Blake, who is eating some sort of fish.

"Yes?" she acknowledges.

"You have no overly exploitable weaknesses, you have my praise," I praise.

"Thank you," She states.

"Though that doesn't mean you have none. You are very reliant on your semblance for defense, and, while it works, if you were more capable of defending yourself without it, the fight would have lasted longer," I explain.

"Ruby, you are very skilled with Crescent Rose, and it makes you a deadly opponent, but, like I said, you're a sitting duck without it. You also seem to be trying to fight something much bigger than me, and that makes it easier to dodge your attacks," I lecture Ruby, who is eating a hamburger and chocolate chip cookies.

"How should we fix this?" Ruby asks.

"Training. How do you usually train?" I answer simply before asking another question.

"Like today we use the arenas, but we usually alternate between team training and personal training every day. Anything else is self disciplined. Today was supposed to be team training, but you were added to our team." Ruby informs me.

"Ok then, when does class start tomorrow?" I ask.

"Um, eight, but breakfast is at seven thirty," Ruby informs me after a second of thought.

"Then we will do stamina training starting at six thirty, that means everyone," I state.

In response I get a series of unwilling noises.

"I won't hear any complaints. Stamina is important, and there is no such thing as enough," I finalize.

After everyone calms down I continue, "Now, your training schedule will remain the same, but I will be dictating your personal training. I will have your bad habits and weaknesses weeded out as soon as possible."

I get a series of agreements with different levels of enthusiasm, but at least they are willing to improve. The conversation delves into small tack and idle chatter, as we continue to eat our meal.

---------------------------------

After we finish eating, we move our desks back and go to bed. I'm the last in bed, so I flip off the lights. In the darkness, I make my way into bed. With the oddly calming sound of breathing surrounding me, I cover myself with my blankets and grab the picture off of the bookshelf.

"Goodnight, guys," I whisper, but it seems I was heard.

"Night, Sapph," I hear Yang.

"Goodnight," I hear Weiss.

"Sleep well," I hear Blake.

"Night," I hear Ruby.

My eyes water as I hold the picture tight. It's been a long time since I heard a reply to those words. Even if it's just courtesy, those words really let it sink in that I am not alone in the shack anymore. I have people with me now, and I wish it would stay that way.

As my thoughts wander, my consciousness slowly wanes, and I drift off to sleep, ending my first day at Beacon.
