Rifts Pt. 2

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! I forgot to upload this!

here you are today's chap!

------------------------------------------

Jaune POV:

I watched as Ruby deflated onto the desk like some sort of sad balloon at my seemingly upsetting question. I throw a questioning look to her sister, Yang, but she just awkwardly averts her eyes, while scratching the back of her neck.

With Yang being a lost cause I turn to Weiss and black only to get silence in response. With no other option, I return my attention to Ruby.

"Well?" I ask with hesitance.

With this she finally meets my eyes, and releases a sigh.

-haaaah

"We messed up," She says, confusing me greatly.

What? How?

I held my back to back one word questions as a way of culling said confusion, and thoughts ran through my head trying to answer them.

I mean I haven't heard about anything happening that would warrant such a reaction. I mean there was that thing this morning with Russel and Sapphire, but I don't see how they 'messed up' there, nor did I hear of any disciplinary action being taken against them. Sure they sent him and a couple of his teammates to the infirmary, severely injured, but due to team cardinal's actions the issue was dropped.

I mean sure they could've handled it better, but I doubt anyone in the heat of the moment would have made much better decisions.

Speaking of which, where is Sapphire….?

"Well, I'm sure you're worrying too much. It's not like mistakes can't be made up for," I try to cheer Ruby up with some encouraging words, and it seems to have some effect.

"Anyway, do you know where Sapphire went? I've been meaning to talk to her," I ask.

I got a reply, not from Ruby but from Yang.

"Huh? What did you need?" She warily asks.

Huh? That's unusual…

I mean, I'm aware of Yang's overprotective tendencies, but she generally dosn't have a problem with me hanging out or talking with Sapphire. Well, I guess the incident from this morning has put her on edge.

Oh, well…

"Well… It just seemed like she's not been doing so well today, and I wanted to see what's up?" Why did I phrase that as a question?

"Why was that a question?" Yang asked, still warry.

To my rescue however came Ruby.

"Relax Yang," She said.

With those words the mama bear 's protectiveness retreats replaced by the awkward atmosphere from before.

"Sorry about that, We've been kinda on edge since this morning," Ruby sluggishly muttered.

"Oh, no, it's perfectly understandable! Anyone would be after what happened with Cardin!" I hastily put out.

My words though don't seem to have the desired effect of alleviating the atmosphere. The group only seems to deflate even more. This time though, I'm not left to wallow in my confusion, as Ruby doesn't take long to speak up.

"Well, there's that too, but…haaah" She starts only to cut off her sentence with a sigh.

I wait for a few seconds but no continuation comes. Only silence that served to expand my curiosity and suspense. I waited more, but still no continuation came.

"But?" I question, trying to get Ruby to finish her sentence.

"Haah, Well… We had this conversation with Sa-," Ruby starts to reluctantly prattle on, but gets interrupted by Weiss.

"Stop!" She hastily stops Ruby from speaking anymore before turning to me.

"My apologies mister Arc, but we do not know where Sapphire is at the moment. She did, however, just leave the classroom, before you came to speak with us. If you hurry now, you might be able to catch up," Weiss quickle uttered her words.

Yeah, even I can tell that to be my cue to leave.
