The Remote and Wires

Maxine hugged me close as I fell down to my knees, resting them on the backs of my feet. The night sky is beautiful while the stars glimmer, they seem like they're moving because of the tears welling up inside my eyes making the world look like it's spinning.

"It's fine to not be okay. because I'll be beside you either way." Maxine whispered, her lips brushing against my ear as she said every word. A chill went down my spine as her hair drifted down my face and she laid her head on my shoulder her face towards my neck inches away.

My skin caught her cool breath and I closed my eyes, indulging myself in the moment. I sighed in relief of being able to know she's here and always will be. Maxine's head moved and she turned to face me.

"Are we going to go inside? It's kinda cold." Maxine gestures to her front door. "Yeah, let's go." I responded in stutters caused from the cold. Shivering by the time I got up. Soon after, I started walking with her to the front door. When we both got inside, Maxine closed the door behind us and put her keys next to the cabinet Peirce and I had to get.

A flashback of Peirce and I played in my head from last weekend and I walked away playing it as easily forgotten just like he did to me.

"If you want, you can turn on a movie." Maxine said while pulling off her jacket. "Um ok." I answered looking around for the remote. Maxine wasn't in the living room anymore and I could see her walking down the hall into the room she put me in last weekend.

Before I could ask where the remote is, she walked in the room and closed the door behind her. Deciding it's best to leave her alone, I walked away and began searching for the remote again, but couldn't find it. Building up my courage, I trailed down the hallway and knocked on the door.

I am caught off guard when she opens the door standing there in her undergarments. "Umm I-I was wondering if you knew where the remote is because I can't find it." I looked down reluctantly to the ground while I asked.

"It should be behind the tv, you can probably find it there." Maxine answered. "Ok, thanks." I replied heading back to the living room. I find it exactly where she said it would be and I glare at it. "Why did you have to be there?" I demanded from the remote, but I didn't wait for an answer before I picked it up and turned the tv on.

I almost fell asleep before I heard the door down the hallway where Maxine was open and close. I bolted off the couch in the dark living room and hid in the corner. As soon as I have her in my sight, I jumped out from the corner and scared her.

When I jumped out, I tripped on something and started falling forward and Maxine started falling backwards. Landing on the ground, I was over Maxine and my hands were close to her waist on both sides.

We were both in shock and she started laughing falling backwards on her back. I joined in and we are both laughing. She sat up with a smile. "What did we even fall over?" she asked standing up and ficked on the light switch.

Looking on the floor, I spot an extension cord and many other cords plugged into it. "A bunch of wires, that makes sense." Maxine laughed, plugging in the wires that came undone when we both fell over.
