Chapter 15: Malleability

Kathryn took them out to dinner after the Pumpkin Fest. There was a diner near her apartment that had been Eli’s main source of nourishment from the ages of ten to eighteen. Kathryn couldn’t cook and not for a lack of trying. Anything more complicated than toast or cereal was bound to land someone in the hospital.

Kathryn delighted his friends by telling them his embarrassing childhood stories. It took all of his will power to keep his sister from summoning the photo albums from the apartment to further cement his humiliation. After dinner, he said goodbye to his friends before they had to run and catch the last train back to CIT. He went back to the apartment he called home and helped Kathryn set everything up for their horror movie marathon.

As they sat on the couch and watched campers being murdered by a serial killer, Kathryn commented, “Mo is cute.”

He eyed warily. “She is.”

“And you haven’t made a move, why?”
