Chapter 35: Patent

Eli didn’t really have a place to stay. He went to Kathryn’s apartment to get his things and tried to think of where he would go from there. The dorms would be closed for the holidays, and none of his friends lived in the city. He had a few friends from high school but none he was close enough with to be able to stay with them for all of winter break.

He could probably stay with Alex but Kathryn would know to go there first. He went to his bedroom and tried to come up with a plan. He didn’t have money for a hotel. He couldn’t even stay still.

He paced, his thoughts rushing through him. He tried to remember the coping techniques his doctor told him when he was first diagnosed with ADHD. Medication could only do so much. He had to be in control of his own damn mind.

He reached for his phone and dialed a number. He waited as it rang a few times until there was an answer.

“Hello?”

“Mo.” The sound of her voice felt like a balm on a wound. “Hi.”

“What’s going on?”
