Chapter 61: Unexpected Visitor

SEAMUS

Seamus followed Liam down the dimly lit corridor into the public reception area of the palace, past the doors to the room they had dined in that evening. As they passed the large wooden doors of the reception room, Seamus thought there was a noise on the stairs behind them. He glanced back over his shoulder, but could see no one there.

'Did you hear that?' he asked Liam.

'What? I did not hear a thing. You will be jumping at your own shadow next.' Liam laughed.

That was the longest sentence he managed to get from his cousin as they turned down another corridor, which led to the library and some other rooms, housed in the oldest part of the building. All attempts to find out why his father summoned him late at night were frustratingly rebuffed with, 'You know I am here as duke's squire now, I cannot tell you anything except what I have been told to say. So stop asking.'
