An Invitation

"Hum, yes, you suddenly appeared right in front of my car, and bam. That's how you got here." Yuna sat back on the chair.

"I see..." Mike nodded slightly and looked back at the ceiling.

"Nee, please tell me, mister. Do you know the little girl you saved?" Yuna smiled faintly and started a conversation to find out about this young man's identity.

"No, I don't know her." Mike responded without delay.

"Then, why did you rush to save her even though it could endanger yourself?" Yuna tilted her head slightly.

Hearing that, Mike heaved a subtle sigh. His body seemed to move on its own to save the little girl. However, if the reason was needed, then he could only come up with one conclusion.

"That innocent little girl might receive serious injuries or die on the spot if hit by a speeding car. No one can do anything but scream, not even her negligent mother. I saved her because I wanted to save her. I don't need any more reason than that." Mike looked into the young lady's eyes.

"I see, it's infrequent to find someone with your faith in this era, mister. My name is Kisaragi Yuna. Please forgive me for harming you until you get seriously injured like this. Please tell me what you need?" Yuna gave a bow in apology. She was pretty relieved because this young man possessed a noble heart.

"That's fine, beautiful onee-san. I would be grateful if I didn't have to bear the expensive hospital fees." Mike was reminded of the terrible hospital that took all his belongings, including all money left by his parents.

For that reason, he propelled his body to a sitting position. He ignored the pain because he did not plan to stay in the hospital any longer.

"Wa, hey... You are still injured. I have covered your hospital and treatment costs. Why do you seem in such a hurry?" Yuna immediately stood up. She was surprised when the patient suddenly sat up and seemed about to leave.

"Hm?" Mike was dumbfounded, and so was Yuna.

Unfortunately, Mike was not looking at the beautiful girl in front of him, but at his set of clothes. It was dyed red with blood. Even his bag was torn.

'Uhh, my clothes and bag are broken. I can't possibly go in clothes covered in my blood, can I? The police will arrest me!' Mike checked his clothes. He wore a typical hospital patient suit.

"Ah, your clothes are torn and covered in blood. Do you want to go anywhere?" Yuna became a little worried considering her butler's previous estimation.

"Not really. If the hospital costs are covered by you, then I can sigh of relief. Where are we now, beautiful onee-san?" Mike canceled his intention to leave because he didn't have to pay any fees.

"We are in the Private Emergency Room at the International Hospital. Hey, I've introduced myself. Please call me by my name. You haven't introduced yourself either. That's rude." Yuna answered reflexively and threw a tantrum.

"Well, I'm sorry. I can't just call your name because we're not that familiar yet, Kisaragi-san." Mike decided not to comply with the request because he was aware of the rules outside his former sect.

In common courtesy of Japan, people didn't usually call someone, especially strangers or acquaintances, by each other's given names. They would usually just use each other's surname.

"Hmph, that's still my name." Yuna scratched her head gently. She was clueless about this young man's apology. "Then what's your name, mister? Are you from some organization or the like?"

"Why do you ask that, Kisaragi-san? Would you do anything if I came from a certain organization?" Mike became wary at one. He prepared himself to run away if something unexpected happened.

"Yes, if you come from a certain organization, you will get me in trouble." Yuna got straight to the point without beating around the bush anymore.

"Is that so?" Mike squinted his eyes, and Yuna gave a subtle nod. "Well, my name is Mike. But, unfortunately, I don't have any background. Let's say it's just me traveling the world."

"All right, I believe you, Mike-san." Yuna nodded with a bit of relief. She found no sign of falsehood in this young man too.

So, her butler's estimate was inaccurate. Even so, she needed to check again about Mike's identity through her intel. At least, she had to make sure no problem would come to her.

"Please wait a moment. I'll be right back." Yuna waved her hand slightly, then went out of the treatment room.

Mike just stared at Yuna out of the treatment room. He saw she spoke to a butler guarding the entrance, then he could no longer see them through the small glass in the door.

'Maybe, they need to take care of something. Well, let's see what the so-called Misfortune System looks like.' Mike muttered in his mind, then checked every corner of his vision.

He didn't find anything in the upper right corner because there were no more quests, but his Fortune Point's bar was still on the left side.

'Well, it's still a little red. I didn't get Fortune Points even though I saved that little girl? Life is hard.' Mike bemoaned his measly 25 Fortune Point.

After that, he became attracted by the semi-transparent mark in the lower right corner of his vision. Thus, he focused his gaze and the tiny mark enlarged into a mini screen.

<| Miss Fortune System (Lv. 1) |>

<| Host: Mikelle Fortuna (Peak Stage Elementary Spirit Realm) |>

<| Skill: Dark Curse (Lv. 1) Elemental Sight (Lv. 1) Nameless Escape Technique (Lv. 2) | >

'Huh?' Mike was shocked to see the data on the status screen.

It was the Miss Fortune System, not the Misfortune System. However, one thing that scared him the most was his first skill, Dark Curse.

'What does this mean? Am I a curse bearer? So, all this time, I carried a curse? What does that mean by this skill called Dark Curse, system-san?' Mike asked frantically in his mind.

[Dark Curse is an all-powerful curse skill.]

A pleasant yet familiar girl's voice resounded in Mike's mind, and a small semi-transparent screen popped out on the right side of his vision. Surprisingly, the lady system answered him! No more silent treatment.

'Then, is this skill that covers me with bad luck every now and then?' Mike gulped and prepared himself to hear the truth.

[Dark Curse is too strong for the host's body. That skill occasionally causes misfortunes if the host's good karma is in the red zone. The existence of the miracle lights is also needed to be always around the host.]

'I- I see, thanks for telling...' Mike looked down with some thoughts.

However, it didn't take long for him to convince and reassure himself. 'No, Mike, this Miss Fortune System is a gift from the Goddess of Fate and Fortune. She pitied me and provided a solution for all my misfortunes. But what about the miracle lights? Why is it plural? Does that have anything to do with Miss Fortune?'

'Finding one Miss Fortune was difficult and only relying on my unreliable luck. Then, how about more than one? I also have absolutely no idea how to keep Kisaragi-san around me. What do I need to do?' Mike tried to make assumptions, but he didn't dare to imagine the outcome. He lay back down on the bed and began to search for any solution.

A few moments later, the door opened. Yuna and a butler entered the treatment room. They approached and stood beside the bed.

"Hmm?" Mike turned to the visitor and felt a little confused. Yuna had a bright and happy expression as if she had just found a gold mine in her yard a while ago.

"You look so happy, Kisaragi-san? Did something happen?" Mike greeted for pleasantries. Right at that moment, the lady system's voice rang in his mind.

[Main Quest: Obtain Kisaragi Yuna's affection within three months. Penalty: Death. 2nd Penalty: Kisaragi Yuna's death.]

'Eh?' Mike's bones turned to jelly, and his mouth went dry.

He was just thinking about that a few moments ago, and this compelling quest came up all of a sudden. Not to mention, the new quest was not just one penalty, but two!

"Is that easy to guess from my expression, Mike-san? Well, that's nothing. All right, Mike-san, would you like to work for me?" Yuna stretched out her hand for an invitation.

She couldn't contain her excitement when her intel failed to find any data about any talented person named Mike. Not even after the search by appearance had been carried out.

So, she only got one answer. Mike was a hidden talented genius with an exceptionally gifted talent who didn't have shelter yet!

Even though she could not tell that herself about the amount of Mike's Spirit Veins, she did believe in her butler's identification. For all those reasons, she wanted Mike to come into her Kisaragi household.
