Rash’s Dark Past

"Come on, Tasha, yankey gulf lima, Christina, Yankey gulf romeo" Rash whispered as we quietly walked out of the room.

"Could you speak English please" Tasha said sarcastically.

"He means you go left and Christina you go right" I explained as I patted Rash's shoulder, we then walked over to the vending machine.

"So what do we do now?" I asked as I saw Rash crouching next to it.

"I've got this, just watch and learn" Rash smirked as I watched him get to work on hacking the vending machine expertely.

"Wow that's cool" I said with admiration as I watched snacks flood out of the vending machine.

"It's no biggy" Rash replied proudly.

"But you seem strangely good at this" I said suspiciously.

"I've had practice" Rash said with a shrug.

"Okayyyy that's totally normal" I muttered as we steffed he snacks into our backpacks.

"Shut it you racist bitch" Rash said with a smirk as I chuckled.

"Okay we're done, let's go" I said as I grabbed my axe and motioned for Tasha to come over.

"So now we know that the control room is on the last floor so we have two floors to descend, are you guys ready?" I said with a sigh after we were back in the room.

"We have no choice" Tasha said with a shrug.

"It's better than staying here in fear of death" Christina replied as she breathed in deeply.

"I still think we should stay here but I have a responsibility to protect the two of you, so I'm in" Rash said with a grin towards Tasha who rolled her eyes at him.

"Okay then eat up because we have a whole lot of fighting to do" I said as I thought of the battle ahead of us.

"Okay I know that everybody is thinking of the same thing so I'm just gonna say it, why the fuck haven't we seen a single zombie for like 20 minutes" Rash said with a frown.

"In any other situation I would be glad about that but in this situation, it's definitely suspicious" I said with a frown as I felt that feeling that something bad was about to happen, I had been feeling this way the whole time but nothing had happened.

It would seem that the shadow, this was the name we had decided upon for our unknown enemy, this was what it wanted, it wanted us to know that it was in control of every situation, that was why it had set everything up this way and it really pissed me off because that feeling that we could be overwhelmed by hordes anytime was constantly weighing on my mind.

"Wait" I suddenly said which caused tension to rise in the air.

"What is it?" Christina asked with a hint of fear in her voice.

"Do you hear that?" I asked as I strained my ears to confirm if what I was saying was true.

"Hear what..you're starting to freak me out dude" Rash said as he grabbed the stick he was holding tightly.

"Shhhh, Follow me" I motioned for them to keep quiet and then whispered to them as I creeped over to the door on the right as quietly as I could, I raised a hand to tell them to pause as I placed my hand on the door knob and twisted it as the door opened, I pushed it as I stepped in to confirm the sound that I heard.

As I walked in, I suddenly felt danger a my right side so I quickly raised my axe as I felt something heavy slam into it, I kicked in that direction blindly and felt my leg connect with a body, I could hear a grunt so I quickly moved my hand to the light switch and flicked it before raising my axe into the air but I stopped as I saw the figure on the ground.

"Wait you're human, thank God" The figure on the ground said with relief as he spotted my figure.

"What's going on, wait I know you" Rash rushed in the room with the rest behind him and when he saw the figure on the ground, his expression turned dark.

"You..you now me..wait I remember you" The man on the ground also said as his expression changed.

It was a bright and beautiful day, people could be seen walking up and down the streets with different agendas, some were jogging, some were making calls, others were also talking to each other as they smiled and laughed.

"Hey Jack it's me Rash" Rash said as he navigated through the sea of people.

"Oh where are you?" The person on the other end asked, judging by the voice, it was a middle aged man.

"I'm on my way to see him now" Rash replied as someone rushed past him and knocked his other hand which was holding a cup of coffee and caused it to spill onto his shirt.

"Fuck…watch where you're going asshole" Rash said angrily to the guy who turned to him apologetically then turned around and rushed away.

"Freaking white prick" Rash cursed as he tried to wipe the stain off his shirt which didn't work and only caused it to spread further.

"Is everything alright" The voice on the other side asked.

"it's fine, don't worry so I was saying that I'm just on my way to see the Mr Frank" Rash replied as he dropped the cup into the trash bin and continued on his way.

"Please I want you to promise me that you would give this one a chance, don't take their remarks to heart" The voice said with a sigh.

"You should know how these white assholes are, I can't promise that dad and you know that" Rash said with a grunt.

"Son sometimes you should be able to disregard whatever they say, that's how our grand and greatgrandfathers did to help us get where we are today, your brother's condition has worsened and you know that my current jobs can't afford to cover his medical bills" The voice said sadly as rash paused and sighed before he looked up to a large building.

"Oh and Rash remember that everyone deserves a second chance" The voice added.

"Okay dad, just wish me luck okay, bye" Rash said then ended the call.

"Well, new boring life here I come" Rash said as he walked towards the lrge company, as he approached the building, a fast car suddenly drove past him straight to a private parking spot, after which a man walked out.

"Excuse me are you Mr Frank?" Rash asked as the man turned to him.

"Who's asking…oh shit fuck, are you here to rob me?, oh my God, is that what this is?" The man said with fear after spotting Rash's appearance.

"Excuse me what!" Rash said with anger.

"Take this, this is all the money I have" The man said with fear as he took out his wallet and stuffed it into Rash's hand.

"What the fuck are you talking about?, I'm not robbing you" Rash said with anger as he stuffed it back into the man's hand.

"That's not enough, here take my car keys too, that's all I have" The man said as e placed his car keys together with his wallet in Rash's hand.

"Stop causing a scene" Rash shouted while grabbing the man's cloth as he noticed people watching them weirdly.

"Peeeeepoooo" A police car suddenly pulled up as they walked over.

"Is everything okay here?" The first policeman asked as he saw my hand on the man's cloth.

"Yes officer, everything is fine, I was just having a friendly chat with this man" Rash replied as he released his grip on the man clothes and straightened it for him.

"Didn't look like it, sir please step away from the man and place your hands where I can see him" The second policeman said.

"Seriously officer nothing is going on you can ask him" Rash said as he pointed to the man.

"Is that true sir" The first policeman asked the man.

"No this man just tried to rob me" The man answered as he moved away from my side.

"Okay sir, you have the right to remain silent, anything you say or do will be used against you in the court of law…" The second policeman said as he pulled out his gun while the other policeman walked over to me and cuffed me.

"There's been a huge understanding here officers" Rash tried to explain but was smacked in the face by the officer.

"You're resisting arrest huh" The officer said as he slammed his knee into his stomach and landed a punch on his face.

"Urrrg" Rash groaned in pain as he was beaten by the cops.

"That's enough, let's go" The first policeman said as they pulled me up and threw me in their car.

"Hey, Hey Rash are you okay?" I asked while waving me hand in Rash's face which snapped him out of his daze.

"Yeah I'm fine" Rash replied as he glared at the man while recalling dark memories.

"Do you know this guy?" I asked while pointing at the man who was now getting up.

"Oh I know him and I'm about to murder his ass" Rash said with anger as he raised the stick he was holding to strike the man.

"Woah calm down, just calm down, whatever he might have done to you doesn't give you the right to kill him" I said to calm him down but it only served to anger him more.

"What do you know about not having a right?, huh, you white folks never understand us, my whole life I've been bullied because I'm black, from middleschool to highschool to college, I was suppressed because of the colour of my skin, nobody cared about my rights even when I wasn't at fault nobody cared, so don't talk to me about not having a right cause I know exactly what that feels like, and because of this piece of shit my whole family's gone and I'll never see them again so fuck not having the right to kill him cause he deserves to die, my brother…." Rash blazed as he shouted in rage recounting his sad life before breaking down in tears, now I understood why he thought every white person was racist, because of white fuckers like this.

"Rash although I don't know what that feels like, I remember what my friend used to tell me, he said that everyone deserves a second chance so even though this guy was an asshole, even he deserves second chance" I squatted next to Rash and said to him as I remembered a certain someone.

"Sniff, you know those were my father's last words to me" Rash said sadly as a sad smile crossed his face.

"I'm really sorry about them, wanna talk about it?" I asked Rash who sighed as he sat down on the bare ground.

"It was a few years ago…." Rash said as he prepared to share with us the dark memories that haunted him.
