C62 Ning Qianyu Had a Fever

Du Zhongyu gazed at Ning Qianyu for a long time, before finally conceding to her wishes. Without another word, he raised his head and started to speak about their past together. "It's best if you sit down for this," he said.

"Your mother and I were classmates in college, and we loved each other...so much so that we swore an oath. That we'd never leave each other, that we'll love each other forever. I, of course, told my godfather about this, but he had plans for me." The older man sighed, rubbing his forehead. "He wanted me to marry his daughter and take over the family business. I rejected him, of course, and I left his place to live with your mother."

"I thought that was it, but then the man had become seriously ill–so ill, that he had to ask someone to find me. He...he had done so many things for me, so to turn my back on him...that's just unanswerable. I had to take care of him, but he died in the end." Du Zhongyu looked away. "It was in his deathbed that he had entrusted his daughter to me. She had said the same thing–that godfather had promised me to her. I tried to refuse and find your mother, but she disappeared. I didn't see her for twenty-three years until she came to Third General Hospital for her surgery. When I heard she was here, I just had to visit her."

Only then did his gaze fell on her. "Shunjun didn't say anything, but I'm very much sure that you're my daughter and–"

"Mr. Du, I don't know what had happened between you and my mother; in fact, I don't even want to know," she interrupted easily, bowing her head. "If that's all, I'm going to leave now." However, just as she was about to leave, he quickly called out her name, "Qianyu, I know what happened between you and Mu Shengchen. I know about your agreement; I know everything."

She froze. "What do you know?"

"About you and Mu Jinbo, and about the marriage agreement you have with Mu Shengchen," he stated matter-of-factly. Seeing her so silent, he took another step forward. "Look, I can–" "Mr. Du," she intercepted. This time, there was a strain in her voice. "I think you've made a mistake. Perhaps you've misunderstood my words. Even if we have an agreement, that has absolutely nothing to do with you."

"No, you don't get it!" Du Zhongyu staggered towards her anxiously. "Here's the thing, you don't even have to think about your agreement with Mu Shengchen. I could solve it for you. Just wait, I can do it."

"And I've said it again." Ning Qianyu finally snapped, clearly agitated with his presumed 'help'. "You don't have to care about the agreement I had with Mu Shengchen. Haven't I made it clear enough? Our family matters have nothing to do with you."

The corners of his lips twitched downwards. "If your mother knew about this–"

"She wouldn't. Look, I don't care what's going on between you and my Mom, and in return, I suggest you wouldn't care about whatever happens between me and Mu Shengchen. In fact, if you really care for her at all, you wouldn't tell her about anything." Finally having enough of this nonsense, she stood up and walked towards the ward.

"Qianyu, please!" The older man was already waving his hands, but she had already gone the other way.

On the way back from the hospital, Ning Qianyu was distracted. She aimlessly walked down the corridors, as her hands clenched and unclenched repeatedly.

Du Zhongyu's words echoed at the back of her mind.

Although they were married, that was only part of the agreement. Beyond that, what was their relationship?

She was positive that she had already fallen in love with him, but what about him? Does he feel the same way for her? Or was he still in love with his ex? Or had he decided to stop caring at all?

Ning Qianyu happened to bump into Mu Shengchen just as he was about to leave the door. She simply stared at him in a daze, unsure of what to say. Should she tell him about it? Or should she just forget everything about it? "I..." Pausing, she simply shook her head.

Although he could tell that something was wrong with her, he had an appointment to get to with Mu Zhenghong. "I'll be back, all right?" he simply informed her of his appointment before leaving with Ye Xi.

"All right." She simply leaned on the sofa, wanting to wait for him to come back. Maybe she'll ask her about his feelings then.

She waited for a long time, from afternoon till night. Ning Qianyu didn't even notice how much time had passed as the skies around her gradually turned dark. Slowly, she found her eyes closing as she drifted off into her pillows.

A few hours later, Mu Shengchen and Ye Xi finally entered the apartment to see that everything was pitch black.

"A power outage?" Ye Xi frowned. "I'll go around to take a look."

Mu Shengchen drove his wheelchair into the living room, letting his light direct the way. There, in the corner, he could see her small figure curled up in the corner of the couch. He pursed his lips.

"Qianyu?" he called out, but she didn't respond.

Approaching her, he noticed the way how red her face was. Beads of sweat trickled down her forehead, and he immediately placed a hand on her forehead, only to pull away quickly as if he had just been burnt.

"She has a fever. Why does she have a fever?"

At this time, Ye Xi had just finished setting up the circuit. As soon as he heard Mu Shengchen calling out for him, he immediately headed back to the living room. "Young Master," he gasped out. "The circuit has already recovered."

"Qianyu has a fever," Mu Shengchen started, helping her up from the sofa. "Go to the pharmacy and buy some medicine for fever."

"I'll take Young Madame to her room," he offered.

"There's no need." Mu Shengchen shot him a glare before struggling to place Ning Qianyu onto his lap.

Ye Xi rubbed his nose with a sigh as he pushed his boss into the bedroom. Once they were all set up, he immediately ran to the pharmacy to get some fever medicine for Young Madame.

While his assistant was out, he took advantage of the spare time by bringing out a basin of cool water from the bathroom. Grabbing a spare towel from one of his closets, he quickly bunched it up and place it on her head to cool her down.

It didn't take long for Ye Xi to bring the medicine. When he made sure that everything else was in order, he also left the apartment.

"Please don't leave me," Ning Qianyu mumbled as her forehead wrinkled. The heat radiating from her skin only grew hotter as she twisted and turned, restless. "Don't do this to me. Don't leave me."

"I won't leave you. I won't." He wrapped his arms around her waist, comforting her. "I won't leave you, Qianyu."

Two days had passed and her condition was already getting better. On the third day, she finally opened her eyes, still disoriented from the number of pills she had drunk. On the side, she could see Mu Shengchen sitting on his wheelchair with his cigarette in between his fingertips. There were dark circles under his eyes as if he hadn't slept for months. "Shengchen?" she asked wearily.

He immediately leaned in closer as soon as he heard her voice. "Qianyu?"

She blinked, looking around. "What happened?"

"You had a fever for three days, and..." He suddenly started coughing, lifting his hand to brush away the stray sweat beading down her forehead. He drew away to pat his chest. "Do you know how worried I was?"

"Fever?" She furrowed her eyebrows. All she could remember was that she had been waiting for him to arrive that night. How could she have a fever? Was it the stress?

He nodded. "Are you hungry? I asked Ye Xi to heat you a porridge."

"I'm just thirsty. Do you have water?" She was just about to get up when he held her back.

"Hey," he said gently. With this, he turned up and grabbed a cup of water for her on their bedside table. "You've just recovered from your fever. Let me do it instead."

Once she had finally drunk the water, she could hear Ye Xi's voice coming from the other side of the door. "Young Master, I got you a report from the company." It was only when he had reached the bedroom did he blink in surprise. "Young Madame, you're already awake!"

"Assistant Ye, you're here too!"

"Ah, yes. Young Master had also fallen ill while you were sick, so–"

Before he could finish, Mu Shengchen patted the side of his wheelchair, glaring up at him.

"Didn't you say you were in a hurry to go back?" he snapped. "Go back to the company now!"

"But, I need to tell you something important," Ye Xi protested.

The man had been watching over Ning Qinyue for the past few days that he had also fallen ill. Even then, he still didn't say anything! Ye Xi couldn't help but curse in his heart. Was this how love was? Blind?

"Hmph." He nodded, but he still made no intention of moving.

Giving up, Ye Xi sighed and left the room. "I'll just wait for you outside."
