As they were walking home, Qin Ru didn't waste any time as she addressed the issue. "So, tell me how did your father die?"

"My father perished while investigating a paranormal occurrence. In Guangxi, there is a well-known legend about an unknown being lurking in the shadows. Nobody knows whether it is a human, a beast, or a spirit, but it is responsible for the deaths of many people. The survivors told tales of a bloodsucking demon, while the rest said that a vengeful spirit of a maiden wandered here. ``

"Can you tell me where your father began his investigation? Was he alone in his investigation or was there someone else with him? "

Ye Isey sighed.

"Not far from the capital, there is the Guangxi river in the east where he started his investigation. There was a commotion caused by the vengeful spirit's presence. There were a lot of priests and Taoists sent there, but none of them survived. Since the Guangxi River was the primary mode of transportation. Work could not be stopped, or half of the people would starve to death and businesses would cease to exist. As a result, working hours were restricted until the sky darkened. People would abandon their work and escape when the sky darkens."

"So, you mean the spirit acted only in the dark?"

Ye Isey nodded his head.

"My father was suspicious, so he volunteered to investigate this case, but he met with the same fate. The next day of his investigation, his dead body was found in the river, floating. He died there". As Ye Isey said this, coldness flashed from his eyes.

His teeth chattered in anger while his fist clenched tightly.

He was young at the time, but he recalls vividly the day he learned of his father's death. On that particular day, he felt as if his whole world had come crashing down around him. He was only able to live in this cold world because of his mother.

Qin Ru pondered every information. "Ye Isey there's still time to daybreak. Why don't we head towards the Guangxi river instead of going home? We won't be in trouble if it's not dark."

Feng Ye Isey's eyes shined with anticipation.

"Are you serious?"

"Of course," she said curtly.

"Okay follow me" He led her to a nearby stable. Quickly he rented a horse for a day.

"Qin Ru, you see I am tight on budget and the river is pretty far from here so will you adjust?" He looked at her with shame.

She was his fiancée, though it was for namesake, it was still rather embarrassing for him to ask her to adjust.

Qin Ru didn't mind. She skillfully climbed on the horse and their journey started.

Ye Isey's skills were not bad but Qin Ru felt the horse was very slow.

"Ye Isey, you mind if I take reins of horse?"

Feng Ye Isey gazed at her meaningfully. "You know how to ride a horse?"

He was perplexed.

Only a handful of women were able to learn horse. For a woman to learn to ride, she must be a Nobel or a hunter. Looking at Qin Ru, it was impossible she was a hunter so she could only be noble.

His heart sank at the idea of her being a noblewoman.

Who was this mysterious woman?

Soon, Qin Ru slapped the horse with her ankle as he started racing. It was so sudden that Ye Isey jerked but grabbed her shoulder to stabilize.

"Are you insane? This horse won't be able to stop if he runs so fast. He is not a racing horse but a passenger horse. Make him stop" He chided Qin Ru however she just ignored him.

It was her first time riding a horse after coming back in time. She felt refreshed when the cold winds hit her face.

What a refreshing feeling.

Feng Ye Isey noticed that despite the high speed, the horse was in full command of Qin Ru. She was very skillful. Compared to hers, his skills were nothing.

He brushed his nose in embarrassment.

"You are pretty good Qin Ru."

She grinned as she replied back. "Yes, I am both, pretty and good."

"..."

Such Narcissism.

However, she had every right to be. Not only was she stunning, but even her skills were also top-notch.

"How did you learn to ride a horse?"

When he asked, she was overcome with nostalgia. When Ye Isey saw her dazed in broad daylight, he shook her.

"What happened?"

"Nothing," Qin Ru said with a shake of her head. Someone forced me to learn how to ride a horse, so I did."

"O"

Ye Isey turned quiet.

In her previous life, Feng Ye Isey had forced her to learn horse riding. He would always joke with her that one day, they both would flee from that hell hole however when the day came, Ye Isey denied.

As she was recalling the past, she felt a familiar touch on her cheeks. She noticed Feng Ye Isey's hand bushing on her cheek. He softly wrapped a silk handkerchief around her face.

She tilted her head to question him.

"Aaah!"

"Actually, a woman riding a horse isn't common here. I am afraid people will judge you so it's better you keep your face hidden. Also, I don't want to implicate you so it's better fewer people know about you."

Ye Isey noticed that she was quiet. He mistook her silence for her anger as he started apologizing. "I don't mean to insult you, but people here are very narrow-minded. I don't want anyone to criticize you. If you don't like it, you can remove the handkerchief."

His hand started opening the knot, but Qin Ru grabbed his hands before he could do it.

"Let It be."

She slowed down the pace and gave the reins back to him.

However, Feng Ye Isey didn't take it, instead, he just grabbed her hands which were holding the reins.

"I know you are genuinely happy to ride a horse so why give reins to me. You can just ride till your heart content. I will protect you from everyone's criticism" He said earnestly.

Qin Ru's heart trembled.

She leaned on his chest with her eyes closed. She let him grab her hands as they continued their journey.

The couple didn't know but there was a pair of eyes that were watching them closely.
