Chapter 3

Oaks POV

That boy is pretty intriguing although young he wasn't a pushover and he had a good amount of knowledge to be able to deduce the lifespan and age of a Rattata from a half-lidded glance. Perhaps I really could help Blaine on this one. But first I would need to run a background check and make sure he doesn't have someone backing him or some sort of lineage.

And that's why I was here, the secondary orphanage. The secondary orphanage was a sad sight to see as the building was shabby and looked like it might fall apart at any time. The reason behind this is that all the leagues provided money went to the official and first orphanage which was full of orphans and had its problems to worry about.

I knocked on the door and saw a nun opening a door which put me on edge as most children raised in an orphanage, especially a religious one, may have some issues or may worship a deity.

"Hello, Professor oak. How may I help you?"

"Well you see I wanted to donate to your orphanage and I was looking for information on one of the boys in the orphanage."

To oak, even a few million poke dollars was pocket change and he could spend it on a whim but to the struggling nun, even 1 million poke dollars were enough to feed the orphanage for over 3 years.

The nun also smiled inwardly thinking that one of the boys has caught oaks' attention and might even be adopted by him. She invited oak inside and served him the best tea of her life and sat across from him in a wooden creaky chair.

"May I ask which boy are you asking about?"

"Alexander Creed, also known as Alex"

The moment the nun heard the name she tensed up which did not go unnoticed. She simply sighed and started talking.

"It was eight years ago that I found him on the front porch without a name or even a letter. Growing up he was a normal boy, a bit antisocial and a bit mature but still normal. He would help with the dishes and get along with most of the children like an older brother. He was the one who named himself Alex when he was 4 years old. But one day around 3 years ago he found a caterpie in his room.

I wanted to release the caterpie back into the wild but Alex somehow convinced me to allow him to keep the caterpie as a pet. 2 months later Alex started going into the forest with his caterpie and he began distancing himself from the orphanage, sometimes he would miss lunch or dinner and he stopped speaking to the other children.

2 months after that, he came back from the forest with a metapod and I was happy for him since he had managed to get a caterpie to a metapod in just 4 months. But after Metapod's evolution. Alex grew cold to even me, someone he called a mother figure in the past. Sometimes he would spend days in the forest and show up with scratches and wounds that had been bandages by leaves. And no matter how much I scolded him, he would ignore me and I was too scared that he would run to push him too far.

On his 6th birthday, he came back with a butterfree that had begun transitioning to the advanced stage. Although I was happy to see him smile and accomplish something that most trainers can't do in 3 years in 1 year, he didn't celebrate his birthday anymore,

However, he changed 4 months later. He left with his butterfree like normal but he came back 4 days later, covered in a mixture of dried green and red blood but his butterfree was missing, when asked he wouldn't reply. He locked himself in his room for 3 days and when he got out the other children bothered him about butterfree because they loved butterfree and it was our unofficial mascot.

Alex however didn't respond and one of the children got real angry and tried to punch Alex. That child was punched into the ground and Alex's eyes... they seemed feral. And then Alex officially left the orphanage."

Oak sipped on the tea as his mind was catching up to what had just been saying and he had many questions in his mind but before he could respond the nun continued,

"We never saw butterefree again and Alex left the orphanage due to a law passed that if a child in an orphanage can leave the orphanage if they can make 10,000 poke dollars legally, the law was to alleviate pressure from orphanages and help prepare the teenagers to get actual jobs and build up contacts and experience.

He camped in the library for 5 days before he left which is where he found out about the law. The library is the only place I know he frequently visits. I don't where he lives or how he got the money to go to school on his own and I haven't seen him since the day he left.

He legally earned that money by selling a corpse of 9 beedrills and 3 kegs of beedrill honey. I still don't know how he earned that money but I think that the corpses of the bee drills were from the fight in which butterfree died-"

"No." Oak cut off, "He went through quite a lot for a 6-year-old, a lot more than you realize."

The nun's expression changed into a curious one, "What do you mean?"

"There is only one pokemon in this entire forest that has green blood that is non-acidic or poisonous. That Pokémon is butterfree"

"But Alex had green blood.. on his... entire... body" the nun was shell-shocked as she processed what had happened.

"Alexander Creed, at age 6, saw his first pokemon kill which happened to be his first partner"
