"What is your favourite colour?"

“I will first present myself and then I want you to present yourself, okay? I want us to become acquaintances.” Doctor Pfeiffer said as she walked in front of the big office table. She finally decided to rest against it, right in between the two fabric chairs. “I am Yanique Pfeiffer. I am a trained doctor in the human psychology. I had a desire to know why we, as a species, react the way we react to certain things and what triggers those reactions. I have worked with the Juniper family for over 6 years now and with their help I was able to learn more about my domain and myself.” Doctor Pfeiffer said casually. “Your turn, Blair. Don’t leave me hanging!” She laughed at the girl.

“Oh, sorry!” Blair chuckled awkwardly. “My name is Blair Rochette. I turned 19 years old one month ago. I started studying medicine because… I want to help people.. however I can.” She said and started to fidget in her chair.

“Don’t be shy, Blair! That’s a wonderful thing and you should be proud of yourself!” Doctor Pfeiffer said as she crouched down in front of Blair. “You are doing great!” She said softly with a smile.

Blair smiled back. She leaned back in her chair, allowing herself to relax a bit. She was tensed, worry flowed all over her mind because she didn’t want to make a bad impression.

“What is your favourite colour, Blair?” Doctor Pfeiffer said as she got up and walked to her seat behind the office table. “I would have to think about that.” Blair furrowed her brows.

“Take your time, love.” Doctor Pfeiffer said as she pulled out a pair of glasses out of her purse. She started to write on a yellow paper.

“I think…” Blair started after a few minutes. “My favourite colour would be a deep purple.”

“And why’s that?” Doctor Pfeiffer asked.

“What do you mean?”

“What does this colour make you feel like? Or what do you imagine when you see this colour?” The doctor explained.

“Well, somehow it makes me feel uneasy, you know? Like anything could happen at any given time, yet it doesn’t. In a way it makes me believe like I could be in charge of whatever will come my way. There is an unusual feeling, it makes me feel unsettled, yet somehow at peace with the idea that I can’t make the feeling go away.” Blair explained.

“I see.” Doctor Pfeiffer stopped for a bit then proceeded to write something more on the paper. “What is your favourite body of water?”

“Body… of water?” Blair repeated.

“Yes, like, what do you enjoy more? An ocean, a sea or perhaps a lake? Or any shape and form in which you can find water on earth.”

“Hmm.” Blair started to think. “I think a puddle.”

“A puddle?” Doctor Pfeiffer said a bit surprised. “Why exactly?”

“It is small. You know what u can find in a puddle. Yes, the water might be dirty, but it is not that deep so there are no real threats hiding in a puddle. Also, you can step in it and splash the water around however you want, there will still be some water left.”

“Blair, that is an interesting point of view.” Doctor Pfeiffer smiled.

“Thank you, I guess.” Blair smiled awkwardly.

“Where exactly would you like to volunteer?” Doctor Pfeiffer asked, taking her glasses off.

“I think I would be more helpful in the Paediatric Ward.” Blair answered.

“I see.” Doctor Pfeiffer got up. “I think we are done here. You may go, please tell Abra to come in. Before we tell you girls what you can do to help around here, I have to have the final talk with her.” She smiled as she walked towards the door and opened it.

Blair got up and walked slowly towards the doo to exit the office. “Okay.” She smiled and walked out. She didn’t have to look around for long because she was able to spot Dakota and Doctor Juniper right away. They were looking at a big painting that was hung on the wall next to the staircase.

“Doctor Juniper…” Blair started, startling the two.

“All done already?” Doctor Juniper laughed as she regained her posture.

“Yes, Doctor Pfeiffer would like to see you now.” Blair smiled.

“My turn to be psycho-analysed! Wish me luck, dolls!” Doctor Juniper laughed and hurried towards the office.

“That was crazy.” Dakota laughed. “What questions did you get?”

“She asked me what’s my favourite colour.” Blair said.

“Oh, same! I told her mine was neon green.” Dakota said proud.

“Of course it is!” Blair laughed.

“I don’t see how she could figure anything from questions like that. I think it’s a scheme!” Dakota started in a whisper, making sure no one else could hear.

“Maybe it’s some trick questions our small minds can’t understand.” Blair laughed as she flicked Dakota across the forehead.

“The balls on this one! To go headfirst in oblivion like this!” Dakota sighed.

“You are just to hyperactive. What if she diagnoses you with something and will get you in the hospital right away? Will you say they are after you because you know too much?” Blair sneered.

“I’m telling you! There is no point, I can’t make it clear with you.” Dakota shook her head and laughed.

“Where do you want to help?” Blair asked after a few moments of silence.

“I love kids, that’s where I hope I’m headed. I’m not made for neurology! What if I fuck someone up for good?!” Dakota said, her eyes wide in horror. “Besides, you are the smart one, those people in the Neurology Ward would be safer with you there, not with me. I would drink their morphine by accident thinking it’s water in a jar. For real!” Dakota exclaimed as Blair laughed at her.

Blair was hoping that Dakota wouldn’t run away from the Neurology Ward. After all, if the two women can’t decide with them, she will step up and take the Neurology Ward to help Dakota out. The thought of volunteering there makes her shiver in fear, she doesn’t want to screw things up either, but if she has to, she will do it.

“Girlies!” Doctor Juniper’s voice rang throughout the building. “Time for your results.” She winked at the two girls as she and Doctor Pfeiffer approached them.

“Well?” Dakota said, impatient.

“Well.” Doctor Juniper chuckled. “Because of the excitement you approach things with, dear Dakota, you will be upstairs, helping with the kiddies!”

“Yes!” Dakota squealed.

“Blair, I will have you for my team, down here!” Doctor Juniper smiled as she pat the girl on the shoulder.

“Dakota Spring, please follow me. I will walk you to Doctor Smith, you will help him and his team.” Doctor Pfeiffer said. “I can’t wait to go home already!”

“Yani, you are so cold!” Doctor Juniper whined.

“Yes, yes.” Doctor Pfeiffer turned on her heels and started to climb the marble stairs.

“Good luck, Blair! I’ll text you when I’m done and I will wait for you in case I finish first, okay?” Dakota told Blair as she hurried to follow Doctor Pfeiffer.

“Don’t worry, you two won’t stay in the hospital for too long today. You will both leave early. Today you are just shown around and presented the duties you will have from now on.” Doctor Juniper explained.

“Good luck. See you later.” Blair smiled at Dakota as she left.

“Okay. I will show you all around the ward and present you to the staff we are going to work with.” Doctor Juniper said as she started to walk towards a narrow hallway in the centre of the chamber. “As you probably figured out already, we are in the Neurology Ward already. But this is just the entrance hall.” Blair just nodded absent minded. She was nervous.
