Entrance Exam

It might seem ridiculous, but it's quite understandable, having a thousand examinees for the 25 spots in the first-year class. The same with other Pokemon Academies, a graduate of the Pokemon Trainers' School would receive a spot for the qualifiers of the Hoenn League Tournament. Besides the huge reputation, quality facilities, and excellent curriculum; just the benefit of not having to get 8 badges to compete in the Hoenn League Tournament is enough to spur a lot of aspiring trainers. This even include people from big families, which most wanting to have a shortcut for their own child.

For those entering the school, not to be a trainer, but to be either a researcher, breeder, doctor, or a coordinator. Graduating from the school is also a good voucher for their future careers. It is really reasonable for many people competing for these spots. The classes cover most main professions, with Beginner Classes for both aspiring breeders and researchers, Contest Classes for upcoming coordinators, and the Doctor's Classes for future doctors. The solid curriculum which could introduce a child to any of the main professions of the Pokemon World is a huge boon for any parents.

Sadly, the school only handles 25 students per year, in order to ensure the quality of teaching and the maximum use of the facilities. Going back, in the school's entrance exam, there are eight batches of examinees every weekday: with 25 children in each session, totaling to 1000 examinees in five days. For now, Paul was included in the batch for the first session of the entrance exam. As he was preparing himself to the upcoming exam, a notification from the system popped up.

[A new quest is available!]

Paul immediately opened the [Quest] tab of the system. There he found a new quest, though it has a higher level than normal.

Available Quests:

Wanting to know the details, Paul viewed the specifications of the quest

[D-level – Top 25 of the Pokemon Trainers' School Entrance Exam]

- As the host of the Pokemon World System, it is only reasonable for the host to be part of the top 25 of the entrance exams.

- Achieve the no.25 position or above on the Pokemon Trainers' School Entrance Exam.

'Really?' Paul thought. It seems he really does need to do well, in order to gain more Quest Points from the system. It's his first D-level quest after all.

[The system is cheering you on~]

[Fighting! \ (•◡•) / ]

Despite always conflicting with the system, Paul is quite happy with it.

[If you do not succeed, you suck. (⌒ _ ⌒) ]

Or not. With an irritated sigh, Paul dismissed the quest tab.

At exactly 1:00 p.m. the proctor for the first session of the exam finally let the first batch inside the 1st year classroom. Paul entered the classroom after the proctor let the first batch file into a single line. He sat on the nearest seat from the front door in a classroom with five rows of five school chairs. The classroom was neatly clean, and there was a wooden table desk at the front. A projector could be seen attached to the middle ceiling in the classroom.

As all 25 examinees of the first session sat, the proctor started speaking. The proctor has bronze skin, with matching brown hair and eyes. He's quite average looking, however, he has sharp eyes.

"Good afternoon. I am Mr. Figg, the teacher of Battle Class for first and second years. Some of you might be the ones who would study in this prestigious school. Although, success for some might mean failure for others. Despite this, I hope you would all do your best for the entrance exam. Is that clear?" Mr. Figg asked.

"Yes…" was the scattered answer of the 25 examinees.

Mr. Figg repeated, "I said, is that clear?" He loudly emphasized.

"Yes sir!" they finally said in unison.

'Oh. He seems quite strict, but he's kind of nice, I think?' Paul's mind supplied.

After listening to the answer that he wanted to hear, Mr. Figg finally started on explaining the rules of the entrance exam.

"There are cameras inside the room where the tests would be conducted, so the preparations of those who wants to cheat would be all for naught. Those that are caught attempting to cheat would be unable to take any future examinations in the school, would also be blacklisted in other schools. Not to mention terminating the entrance exam qualification of the examinee. So, I remind everyone to not attempt cheating. Just do your best and answer to your knowledge." Mr. Figg stated in a grave voice.

After letting his words sink in, Mr. Figg continued, "Also, the test would be conducted electronically. Meaning, you would answer in a computer. So, what are we doing here? I am proctoring you guys before you proceed in the Computer Laboratory."

Seeing the children nod, Mr. Figg let them leave all their belongings in their current table which they would retrieve after the exam finished. He then let them proceed to the Computer Laboratory, which was located at the second floor of the Utility Building next door.

As they entered the Computer Laboratory, he saw six rows of computers with nine computers in each row. Mr. Figg let them seat alphabetically, with an empty seat in between each examinee. Paul sat near the front, as his surname was Crimson. The computer in front of him was already operating, with a browser already open.

After all of the examinees settled on their seat, Mr. Figg initiated to speak. "As you can see, the computers are already started, and a browser is presently open. The current browser is the official website of the school, where you could access the exam as soon as the proctor opens the exam, in this case which is me. The time now is 1:20 p.m. I'll start the exam at exact 1:30 p.m. but for now, I'll let you rest and prepare your state for the exam. Also, after you have finished your exam, there would be a bonus question. The score you gain in the bonus question would be used as a tie breaker in the result you receive, as it is a common occurrence for most students with the highest scores to have the same results in the entrance exam." He finished.

'That makes sense, as there are only 25 spots and would be finalized based on the highest results. It would be inevitable to have the same scores, especially if a couple students receive perfect results or close to it.' Paul concluded.

Mr. Figg left the room for ten minutes, and came back at exact 1:30 p.m. where he announced, "The exam is already open. Refresh your browser and you'll see a new link entitled Pokemon Trainers' School Entrance Exam. I wish you good luck and Ninjask's speed on answering today's exam. You have 1 hour to answer the exam, and I'll come back at exactly 2:30 p.m." Mr. Figg stated before leaving the room, again.

Paul firstly refreshed the browser before opening the link. Thankfully, the test gives a whole hundred question, plus the bonus question, in one page. This is a good thing because he could go back over his answers after he finished answering. After starting, Paul breezed through the exam questions.

'Uh, that's automatically Professor Bill.'

Paul finished the exam in a jiffy, though there would be some questions that he paused at. Still, he answered them quite quickly; thus, he was able to finish 100 questions in twenty minutes. As he still has 40 minutes left, he rechecked the 100 questions for about five minutes before he continued answering the bonus question.

It was a surprise. The exam gave them fifty set of pictures, containing one pokemon each and blank text boxes besides it, asking them to fill up their Pokedex entry, name, category, and type. It wasn't necessary to answer all of them, but if you could, it was a great way to ensure your results in case there's someone who has the similar results to you.

Paul quickly worked on the pictures. Thankfully, he also memorized the Pokedex entries of each pokemon to categorize them from their regions. He first saw a picture of a small Pokemon with a white upper half and a green lower half. It has beady eyes, a pink blush mark on each cheek, long, notched ears, and a small, pointed nose. On top of its head are several spheres of pollen that form a crown. It has stubby arms and a tail, but no visible legs. It is holding onto the yellow stigma of a flower.

Paul immediately recognized the Pokemon as entry no. 669, named as Flabébé, known as the Single Bloom Pokemon, and is currently known as a normal type.

The next picture shows a bipedal, humanoid Pokemon that appears to be wearing a tutu. Most of its body is colored white, and there are three ruffles on each hip. Beneath the ruffles, it has skinny green legs with long, pointed feet. Its arms are also thin with two digits each. It has green hair that covers most of its face and reaches its shoulders on either side, resembling two ponytails. Large, red eyes are visible on either side of the hair that covers its face. On each side of its head is a flat, red horn that resembles a hairpin.

Paul also recognized it as to be the Pokedex entry no. 281, named as Kirlia, known as the Emotion Pokemon, and is currently known as a psychic type.

Fortunately, Paul was able to fill up all the blank text boxes of the pictures before the time run out. He was very sure regarding his answers, though his results are still up in the air. Mr. Figg came back to guide them to the first-year classroom to get their things, and Paul was able to see his parents who were waiting for him. He went to directly hug them, including both of his pokemons. After answering their questions regarding the test, they went to the car and to finally go home. Paul relaxed in the car, while anticipating the meal for his successful exam.

'Phew. I'm glad that was done.' He last thought before he fell asleep leaning on the car window.
