Continuous Battles

After the two talked and embraced, Ms. Hazel approached the both of them. "That was a great battle, Paul and Amber. Quite a good start for today's practical exam. Though, I wanted to say to you, Paul, that your other battle would be conducted last. I'm really grateful for you to be willing to battle it out twice." She smiled as she finished.

"It's not a problem ma'am. It would also be a good experience for Eevee, here. Right, Eevee?" Paul looked towards his pokemon.

"Evui~!" She happily responded back.

Ms. Hazel smiled and walked away as Paul approached 'Eevee'. "Hey, Ditto, I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to 'Eevee' here." Paul emphasized as he looked towards the other Eevee who was at Paul's blind spot earlier.

"Evui~! (◕ヮ◕ ) " The real Eevee happily confirmed its identity.

The ridiculousness of both his pokemons made Paul chuckle, as he rubbed both pokemons' head.

The Contest Battles ensued, with Ms. Hazel as both the referee and the judge.

As time passed, battles were conducted, with most ending within five minutes. Some battles, though, lasts up to the five minutes time limit before a winner was decided. The latter occurred mostly to the students with pokemons who has learned limited moves, students with pokemons unable to perform well, or students with pokemons who performed too well.

An example is the battle between Steven's Beldum and Psyduck of the 2nd ranker, Andrew David. Though, in the end, Steven won with a leading score, as Psyduck's headache was confusing it during the battle, thus made it unable to perform a lot of moves. There were also Jake's Cherubi battling Patty's Pikachu. The former won though, due to type advantage, though they had a great battle. The victor decided after the time limit, with Jake having a higher score advantage compared to Patty.

At last, it was Paul's turn again. Eevee was refreshed and energetic after resting for an hour, as she wasn't hurt or that tired from the battle earlier. Paul's final opponent is Page, who would be using his Treecko in the upcoming battle.

Paul scanned his opponent's pokemon before the battle.

'It seems like Treecko is stockpiling its energy before evolving into a Grovyle, as it is still a Treecko despite being on Adept level already.' Paul thought as he observed Page's Treecko.

"This is a one-on-one Pokemon Contest Battle. On the left side, we have Mr. Paul Crimson and his pokemon Eevee! The right side, however, we have Mr. Page Olives and his pokemon Treecko!" Ms. Hazel announced.

Seeing the participants ready, Ms. Hazel nodded as she finally ensued the battle, "Let the Last Contest Battle, begin!"

"Eevee, use Double Team!"

"Treecko, Bullet Seed!"

Both students simultaneously commanded their pokemons. Eevee multiplied into twelve, which made Treecko unable to find the real Eevee quickly with the seeds it shot. By the time Treecko found the real one, Eevee was dangerously close.

Page's score dropped a bit as Treecko's [Bullet Seed] wasn't able to hit Eevee.

"Eevee, Quick Attack!" Paul followed up.

Eevee was covered in white light as it sped towards the green pokemon.

"Treecko, respond with a Pound!" Page immediately instructed to his pokemon.

'Eevee, watch for Treecko's tail, jump over it to hit your move.' Paul telepathically instructed his Pokemon.

Treecko jumped towards the white silhouette as its tail turned to white and aiming it to the speeding Eevee. As Treecko's tail was going to struck Eevee, the latter jumped which made Treecko's tail pound into the ground, scattering broken rocks. Eevee was able to avoid Treecko's [Pound] while her [Quick Attack] hit Treecko on its chest.

Treecko flew in the air for a meter before landing stably on the ground, looking like it has minimal injuries.

Page's score dropped a little sharply as Treecko's [Pound] missed and was hit by Eevee's [Quick Attack].

"Treecko, use Absorb!"

"Eevee, Double Team!"

"Tsk." Page was irritated as Treecko couldn't find a target due to Eevee's fast response. This also made Page's score drop again. On the other hand, this time, Eevee's copies were only six.

"Use Bullet Seed Again!" Page finally decided.

"Eevee, counter with Shadow Ball!" Paul commanded.

As Treecko's [Bullet Seed] swiped towards the duplicates, Eevee quickly started a [Shadow Ball], which she launched a second before the [Bullet Seed] hit her. The [Shadow Ball] swallowed the seeds that was shooting Eevee, as it soared towards Treecko.

Page commanded his pokemon after a second. "Treecko, dodge!"

It was a bit too late though, even if Treecko was able to jump, he was still caught in the explosion of the Shadow Ball.

Page quickly swallowed as he saw the sharp drop of his score from the miss, again, of the [Bullet Seed] and the move being absorbed by the [Shadow Ball]. Also, by being hit partially by Eevee's [Shadow Ball]. His score was now at half, with Paul still not being diminished. Though, he wasn't discouraged as his pokemon was still not giving up.

"Treecko~!" It gritted its teeth as it stood up, with injuries were covering Treecko's body.

"Treecko, hang in there! Use Detect!" Page instructed ardently.

"Eevee, use Growl!" Paul commanded, which made Detect useless, while also lowering Treecko's attack stat by one stage.

Page's score dropped again, which made the green head quite nervous as his remaining score is quite dangerous. Looking at the time, it was already at "1:56" which means he needs a bit more time so that he could at least not defeated by default due to knock out.

"Treecko, use Quick Attack!" He finally decided.

Paul immediately made a response. "Eevee, use Swift!"

Eevee, due to the Paul's incessant training, was able to predict Treecko's pathway, thus launched the [Swift] on the green pokemon's path. It hit true, as Treecko's [Quick Attack] was cancelled and he flew into the air.

Page's yellow bar dropped dangerously low, appearing to be almost empty, due to the cancellation of Treecko's [Quick Attack] and being hit by Eevee's [Swift]. It seems like only a final hit from Eevee would empty out Page's score.

Treecko struggled to stand up, but it was already weak and had difficulty doing so. Page was currently panicking, seeing his score, and also seeing the current state of his pokemon.

"Treecko, we should take a rest." He finally decided, not wanting his pokemon to be more bruised and eventually knocked out.

"Treecko!" It shouted while shaking its head, denying the demand of its trainer. Page was shocked by Treecko's reply, while immediately turned speechless when Treecko's whole body glowed white. Everyone knew what was happening, and they were all surprised as Treecko underwent its evolution. Paul was also astonished at the turn of events.

A bipedal Pokemon similar in appearance to a theropod dinosaur replaced Treecko's figure. It was primarily green with a red underside, and a belt-like green stripe was across its belly. Its hands have two clawed fingers while having powerful legs with birdlike feet. It was Grovyle!

"Grovyle~!" The pokemon shouted, looking a bit more energetic compared to earlier, though fatigue could still be seen from its body.

Page was ecstatic for his pokemon, and immediately tried to confirm if Grovyle has its basic move. "Treecko- no, Grovyle, use X-Scissor if you can!" The green pokemon nodded its head as a response, as it moved its glowing lime green arms into an X-shaped while running towards Eevee.

"Eevee, use Shadow Ball!" Paul quickly commanded.

Grovyle was more than halfway through towards Eevee when the [Shadow Ball] was launched. Dust covered Grovyle immediately, though Paul felt something wrong.

'Eevee, jump back, quick!' Paul telepathically commanded to his pokemon.

Eevee has just jumped back for half a second when a figure crossed the dust and launched an X shaped attack towards Eevee's earlier location.

"Cease the fight!" Ms. Hazel shouted, which made both pokemon fighting stop, and stilled their respective owners with the rest of the class.

Having a hunch, Paul looked towards the screen to see the current status of scores. Ultimately, the battle ended as Page's score dropped to zero due to Eevee's evasion of Grovyle's [X-Scissor], while Paul's score also finally decreased, due to the ineffective [Shadow Ball] that was unable to prevent Grovyle's attack. The remaining timer was also "0:25", which meant that they've been fighting for around 4 minutes and 35 seconds. It was quite a long fight, but Paul was also satisfied with this battle.

"Page score bar is emptied, which means that Page's score is at zero. The victor of the Pokemon Contest Battle is Paul!" Ms. Hazel finished as she clarified the reason for the stopping the fight. The class immediately applauded for the wonderful battle, with some grudgingly clapped along their classmates despite their distaste towards Paul.

Paul approached Page and gave the green head a hug. The latter responded to the red head's embrace and withdrew after a few seconds. He patted Paul's shoulder as he started, "That was a thrilling battle! Though, your Eevee whooped my ass, not letting me diminish your score almost all throughout the battle." Page grinned as he complained.

"Hey! It was quite hard to evade all your moves. It was just that Treecko's move set was unable to counter my Eevee. See, when it evolved to a Grovyle, my score immediately decreased." Paul replied, while exaggeratingly rolling his eyes at the green head.

"Why do you make it sound like I should be grateful to decrease your score? I was only able to lessen it once!" Page protested to Paul's reasoning.

"It is though? As my Eevee is quite great, right Eevee?" He asked his pokemon as he smugly smiled at Page. Both immediately laughed after a few seconds of staring.

While laughing, Paul rubbed Eevee's head with fondness, knowing how much hard work it gave during training and the pokemon battles the past few months. The brown pokemon also brushing its head back affectionately to its trainer.

"Great battle though. I hope we battle again." Paul gave out his hand to Page for a handshake.

Page accepted Paul's handshake with a firm grip. "Yeah, don't doubt it. Next time I would beat you though!" He replied.

"As if! Decrease my score first!" Paul responded, which made both bicker as they went down the stage to meet their respective friends.
