Pokemon Picks

Paul came back to the Crimson Manor with his friends, right after they finished their Contest Class Exams around 11:00 a.m. They mostly go to Paul's house as the other three's families, besides Amber's, mainly lives on other cities.

Steven's hometown is at Mossdeep City, though they also have their own villa in the Rustboro City as the Devon Corporations' headquarters is in the city. He lives in the villa near the center district of Rustboro City with his father and mother, though they come back to their hometown every summer. He was more fond of his mom as his dad was always quite busy, though he still idolizes his dad as he was able to help a lot of people with his business.

On the other hand, Jake's family came from Littleroot Town. When he enrolled at the Pokemon Trainers' School, his parents decided to buy a house in the south district of Rustboro City. Though they come back to the town also during summer. Jake's attachment to his parents could be seen, despite his usual complaints regarding their demands to him.

Amber's situation is much more simpler and complex at the same time. Her family has lived at Rustboro City since she was born, as her mother was working as the secretary of CEO of the Devon Corporation in the Rustboro City. They are able to buy their own apartment on the east district of Rustboro City. It was quite comfy, though more in the small side, it was enough for the three of them.

Amber was a daddy's girl as her mom was the main bread winner of their family; with his dad left work to take care of Amber as her mom continued to work. Though, when Amber enrolled in school, he was able to work again. Thus, Amber loves her parents very much, as they do their best to give her what they could provide. This is why Amber was really thankful for the scholarship spot that Paul didn't accept.

The reason that the quartet had decided that Paul's house was the best spot to go to after school, was mostly because of the forest surrounding the house and the breeding house nearby. Not to mention the large space to move their pokemons and the lax attitude of Paul's parents. Paul was really thankful that his parents trusted him so much, to be a host for his friends at their house, and to leave him alone with his friends without supervision; as most of the time as they're also busy working.

When the four students arrived at the Crimson Manor, they ate the food that Paul called to their family chef to prepare. Then, they also did some mock battles, while also studying the tactics that Mr. Figg has imparted. So, another day of exams arrived. This time, it was the exam for the Battle Class, which was also a practical exam.

Mr. Figg brought the class to the Battle Class no.1 at the first floor of the Battle Building at exact 8:00 a.m. Confirming that there are 25 students present, who are currently huddled together, Mr. Figg finally mentioned today's instructions.

"So, for today's practical exam, you would compete against me in a Solo Play Pokemon Battle, 1v1 matchup. Though, both of us would pick random pokemons coming from Kanto Region. So those who were expecting to battle with their own pokemon, I'm sorry to disappoint you. Also, just like the Contest Class's Contest Battle, I won't grade you less because you lost, I would only grade you base on your performance. So, don't worry much and just do your best. Got it class?" Mr. Figg asked as he finished.

"Yes sir!" The class said in unison, knowing that dawdling over a response won't be beneficial for them.

"That's good." Mr. Figg said shortly while nodding.

"So, for today's exam, we'll do it alphabetically. Though I would give you all 20 minutes to get to know the pokemon you would be using today, better. File in a line in front of me, alphabetically. You can take your pick when it's your turn." Mr. Figg instructed to the students.

The students then immediately followed his command, forming a line in alphabetical order. They did it quite fast as they've been used to being lined up alphabetically. Jake and Paul were the first two in the line while Amber and Steven was the 21st and 22nd respectively.

Paul telepathically suggested to Jake, as he watched his friend take a pick in front of Mr. Figg from 10 pokeballs that are lined up in the table. 'Pick the 3rd one from the left.'

Jake was only slightly surprised when Paul talked to him telepathically, as Paul familiarized the three of them to his current Psychic Ability, Telepathy. They were really surprised though, when Paul admitted to them, three months into their friendship, about his ability.

Amber was really envious but was really happy that Paul has such a good ability, Steven on the other hand, was quite thoughtful about the implications of Telepathy in a Pokemon Battle. Jake, however, thought how comfortable it could be to convey your thoughts without speaking a word, or approaching the person. "It would be so cool", Jake said, but the other three believed it to be thoughts from a lazy person.

Jake, Steven, and Amber, were also very understanding when Paul asked them to keep his abilities a secret. Thus, Paul was touched when they agreed without asking any questions at all. He still explained, though, that the less who knows his abilities, the better, until he registered at the Psychic Association himself.

Trusting Paul's judgement, Jake chose the pokeball containing a Farfetch'd.

After all students was able to pick each pokemon for themselves, Mr. Figg started the timer of 20 minutes, thus all students let out their respective pokemons for the day. Immediately, there were 25 Pokemons, with all Pokedex entries coming from Kanto Region, scattered all throughout the arena.
