Chapter 42: Will I Be Fine?

She hid inside her room after that little interaction that they had, where she was asked what was fun for her.

The question kept bugging her causing confusion not only in her mind but in her heart.

She couldn't understand why she was suddenly asking herself about this, or why was she confused. when she was living her life normally in the past.

It was just a simple question where she could have given a simple answer but that answer never came to her.

Days passed by and she kept pondering and pondering.

She asked her self multiple questions, and thought of so many scenarios until she reached a conclusion, she would never had if she never took courage and opened that curtain in the first place.

So she run down, went straight to the window, opening its curtains.

She started checking the window before finding something that she never thought of before. the glass window has no lock, even some hooks to allow one to open it.

The girl from the outside noticed her movements and approached the window, she saw her looking for something in the glass and knew that she was searching for a way to open it.

So, she too looked for it, checking if she could open it from the outside but to no avail.

The girl inside looked around the house and realized something she never thought about before. The whole house has no doors leading to the outside world. the window in front of her was the only one as well.

This realization shocked her that is she turned around to look at the girl outside, her eyes was filled with confusion.

Scarlet was so excited the next morning to ask Amethyst and Slate about the events from last night.

Though in the end it was only Amethyst who told the story because Slate didn't even bother saying anything and just prepared to leave for his work.

The two ladies watched him leave before Scarlet laughed because that was how Slate had always been.

Amethyst told her everything except for the part where she almost dove into the water once again. Scarlet doesn't need to worry about that when nothing had happened and she was saved before something bad were to happen.

"Will she not look for you then? Since she saw you here," Scarlet asked worriedly.

She was worried that Emerald will come looking for her and make trouble for her.

"Don't worry. Just as she came here just for the event, I may have come just for it as well. She might look for me in the hotel for the night and in another two days but after that she will surely start thinking that I don't live here."

Amethyst explained and Scarlet nodded her head, "That's right. That is indeed true."

"Anyway, if she were to look for me, it would not be in the near future so I still have time to prepare and to breath," Amethyst added with a smile.

They talked a bit more, especially about what Amethyst is currently feeling before their conversation went to the story they were creating.

"Going up mount Ulap will be a two day trip. What do you think?" Scarlet said.

Mount Ulap was the last place Amethyst will be going to.

"Slate was adamant that he will accompany you so be sure to speak with him. I too, wouldn't want you going alone because that is already a very difficult trip. If it was just like Minesview or Wright Park, I would have left you on your own choice," Scarlet then added.

"I'll speak with him on his next two-day day off then," Amethyst replied.

Scarlet took a deep breath before she showed a melancholic smile, "I never thought I would be given the chance to finish this book."

"What do you mean? Of course you will be able to finish it," Amethyst instantly rebuked.

Scarlet smiled, "And you being here allowed me to get back up at my feet when I thought it was already hopeless for this story."

Scarlet didn't say anything about her finishing the book by herself nor did she affirmed what Amethyst said that she will be able to finish it.

"What are you talking about? It was you guys who had helped me a lot. What I'm doing now is too little as compared to all the support that you guys had given me," Amethyst replied.

Scarlet just smiled no longer arguing with her.

"I'll rearrange our notes," Amethyst clapped her hands and said before getting to work.

'You have no idea Amethyst, just what kind of impact have you brought in our lives. You have no idea just how much in pain I was when I thought I could no longer finish this story.'

Scarlet watched her as she organized the notes for the story that they were creating.

After watching her for a while, Scarlet started typing away. The story that was now reaching the middle part of the whole story she wanted.

*****

The moment she stepped out of Scarlet's place to get something from her own, she came to witness Slate having a cigarette while leaning on his car.

This was the very first time that she had seen him be this way.

In all those times that they were together, this face of his that was filled with melancholy while puffing a stick.

"What's wrong?"

Slate looked at her when he heard her voice near him.

"What do you mean?" he asked taking another puff.

"I only know two types of people who smoke. One those who had it as their vise and those who takes a puff when something is weighing on their mind."

After saying this she looked at his face, "I haven't seen you smoke or even smelled it in you. Well, you can say that I may have just not seen you use one but I don't think that is the case with you."

He sighed before he stepped on it.

"Don't tell me you are affected by my story?" Amethyst said.

Slate wanted to commend her because that is the truth, he was actually affected by her story that the heaviness of knowing he will lose Scarlet soon that he thought he had already got himself to accept, brought back immense sadness for him.

"Ah, your reaction tells me that I am right," she frowned.

He used his fore finger to push her forehead, "She is sick, and no one will be able to say that they have completely accepted the fact that she will be gone soon."

Amethyst leaned on his car as well, "I'm sorry for making you feel that way."

For the second time, he pushed her forehead using his finger, "You were alone all this time while I have her. I only felt affected because I know one day I will also be left alone by her."

She stared at him, "I had always thought that you are the one who never truly wants to show his emotions. I can't say I thought of you as the strong guy because all of us can't be strong all the time but I really thought that you would never show it. That you'd rather keep it to yourself."

He opened a candy and brought out an alcohol spray before sighing, "I never did but she's close. That is why, that is the only reason you can see me like this."

Amethyst didn't say anything more as she can see how hard this must be really to him when he couldn't fully show it to Scarlet.

Then she started thinking, 'What about me? Will I be fine despite knowing that our time together is short?'

As she pondered over this, she couldn't help but to feel the pain in her heart, then thoughts of no longer seeing Scarlet's smiles and sudden childishness came to her.

She took a deep breath to shale the feeling off, "Do you still plan on staying out?"

"No, I'm good."
