She Was Really Prepared

~~~***~~~
The girl from the inside ignored the knocks coming from the outside.
She didn't want to entertain her but she couldn't even close off the window that was connecting her to the outside.
She doesn't know what else to do as she kept going with her life.
The girl from the outside kept on sighing because no matter how much she tries to interact with the girl from the outside, she was always ignored.
'Do you think you were the only one who wished we didn't meet?'
She wrote in the glass before walking away.
She could only smile sadly.
If this is how it is then what she can do is change the life of that girl.
~~~***~~~

The sound of the sirens resounded that afternoon.

Everything felt so slow for her as she watched the pale looking person in front of her.

As she hugged her close not willing to just suddenly see her stop breathing.

Everything was a blur that she didn't even know when or how they have arrived.

Slate rushed to the emergency room where Scarlet was brought and outside there he saw Amethyst.

She was pale and her hands were trembling as well.

Even her eyes weren't in focus.

He could only sigh as he approached her, but asked a passing nurse to bring him a blanket.

Amethyst would glance from time to time at the closed door. She couldn't stop her hands from trembling and the fear in her heart just wouldn't go away.

She knew that Scarlet's time is already too short, she knew but knowing and facing it wasn't the same.

Scarlet suddenly fainted and she wouldn't respond no matter what, her breathing was shallow as if any moment and she would breath her last.

Just the thought of that was enough to drive her to the edge.

She had her hands clasped together trying to stop them from trembling and from feeling cold.

They were very much cold as if she was having a fever.

She is doing her best to calm her heart when her hands were enveloped into two big warm ones.

She slowly looked to her side and saw Slate sitting beside her. She didn't even realize that he was there.

"I…" she started but she didn't even know what she should say.

"Thank you for bringing her to the hospital," he said feeling how cold her hands are.

Then he took the blanket that the nurse brought placing it on her before pulling her into his arms.

It wasn't only her hands that was trembling but her whole body.

"Thank you for being there," he continued as he rubbed her arms.

"I could have brought her earlier," she shook her head as she said this.

"I could have done it faster than just waiting for the ambulance to come," she continued.

Slate hissed before cupping her cheeks with his hands, "No, you know why you didn't. You know why you chose to wait for the ambulance despite the difficulty you are feeling."

"Because I couldn't concentrate, I felt like I might endanger her even more but as I waited, I wish I could have been more clear headed and got her earlier to the hospital," her tears just came out without really wanting to.

It may not be obvious but she had been on edge for a while now that seeing Slate now allowed her to calm down a lot. And because she had calmed down, her tears just came rushing out.

"Shhhh, you already did the best thing you could have done. Because you are right, you might end up in accident if you were to just rush here. Both of you might end up being in danger because of that," he caressed her hair as he said this.

"You did a great job, Amethyst. You did a splendid one," he added.

Few minutes later, the doctor came out.

"How is she?" Slate asked.

The doctor shook his head, "You already know the answer to that doctor Miller. Your sister is already at the late stages of her sickness, just spend more time with her," the doctor placed a hand on his shoulder after saying this.

Slate could only nod his head, there was no use asking. She is still okay now but tomorrow they don't know.

Amethyst held his hand without saying anything.

Both of them just stood there not saying anything until Scarlet was moved to a different room.

"I'll just clock out," he told her.

"Go ahead, I'll watch over her."

He nodded and went out of the room, Amethyst fixed her blanket and sat down beside her.

She can't tell Scarlet to stay strong and that she still has a story she wants to finish. Because Scarlet had been doing that all along.

She noticed it already, the difficulties Scarlet had been having.

She of all people wanted to finish this story but it seems that she wouldn't be able to do so.

"Can't we at least finish it?" she said in a begging tone.

"You gave me the chance to get over everything, you helped me so much. Can't you at least let me help you as well?" her tears came as she asked these questions in a begging tone.

"I want to help you Scarlet, please let me help you."

She could only lean down on the bed as she cried again.

"Shall we have coffee in the cafeteria?" Eduard asked Slate.

They came to the room to see this scene.

Slate nodded his head.

"Her reaction tells me that Scarlet…"

Slate once again nodded when Eduard asked.

"Slate…" he called out.

Slate could only shake his head, "I don't know. I don't know what to feel. I was prepared. But just as she had told me once, it has always been my mind that was prepared but my heart will never be."

He pursed his lips as tears threatened to come out.

He wasn't the easily crying one but this was a different situation than all others.

He could see how Scarlet's health deteriorated every day. But he couldn't do anything.

She had rejected chemo therapy because she wants to use the remaining of her life to live it to the fullest.

Tried it at first but after seeing that she becomes more and more bed ridden, staying most of the time in the hospital. She decided to stop.

He was there, all those times.

In every, journey she had on her sickness.

He watched her in pain, watched her lethargic, watched her laugh it off.

He watched her in everything.

"Cry it out," Eduard said.

Slate shook his head, he didn't want to. He had already done that. He no longer wants to.

Eduard could only shake in defeat, Slate had always been like this. He didn't want to let others see him suffer.

They once again sat there in silence.

"Does she have any plans, if she were unable to finish it?" Slate asked after a while.

Eduard nodded his head, "She gave me everything she had planned if that is to happen."

"She was really prepared," Slate commented.

"No, she was not."

Slate looked at him while Eduard looked back seriously.

"As she gave me her plans, her actions and her eyes showed difficulties. She didn't want the plans of when she was to die before she could finish everything. But she had no choice because she knew she is close to her death," he explained.

Slate sipped his coffee, if they weren't in the hospital, he really wants some beer right now.

But he vowed to Scarlet that no matter what happens, how sad he may be, he will never resort to drinking.

She knew he would smoke from time to time but she was adamant that he must not drink.

Because when things get rough, we won't know what we could do when we are drank.
