Amethyst spent most of her time staying in the hospital with Scarlet.
"Amethyst," Scarlet called.
"What is it? Do you need water? Or are you hungry?" she asked with a smile.
"Sit here," Scarlet patted the side of her bed.
Amethyst furrowed her brows but still followed.
Scarlet smiled at her before caressing her cheek, "You have gone thinner."
"Where did this come from?" Amethyst chuckled.
"You are not taking proper care of yourself. I am just in the hospital for a week and look at you now," Scarlet berated making Amethyst laugh.
"Amethyst," Scarlet called seriously this time.
"Hmmm?"
"Finish the story."
She didn't understand what Scarlet suddenly said.
"Well, yeah we will finish it. We are just taking a break because you are still too weak. We tried creating it for how many days and look what happened to you. So get your strength back then we can finish it," Amethyst nagged.
But Scarlet shook her head, "I didn't mean it that way."
"Then what do you mean?"
"I want you to see the story to its end…. On your own."
Amethyst stared at her before she slowly shook her head.
"No…. I won't do it," she wanted to stand up but Scarlet stopped her.
"No, no, no, no, no… Scarlet come on. You can't be saying that right now," she once again said when she saw how serious Scarlet is.
"It is because it is now that I am saying it. Let's not wait any longer, you already looked into Ms. Night. And even without the two of you saying anything. I know Eduard had told you what I wanted," Scarlet remained holding her hand in order to make her stay seated.
"Scarlet, I can't… please don't do this… I really can't… I can't continue being Ms. Night… I will never be able to think of myself as someone worthy of her…"
"Amethyst… you are more than worthy to take her," Scarlet replied.
But Amethyst remained shaking her head, "It is because I looked into her and spent time with you that I know I am unworthy. Come on Scarlet…"
Scarlet was already tearing up, "You know your strengths and weaknesses, that is why I am confident to leave Ms. Night to you. I wanted to finish it as well. But let's not kid ourselves anymore. I can no longer do it. I am feeling weaker by the day."
Amethyst bowed her head as she started crying too.
The past few weeks were filled with nothing but crying to them.
"I can't… I really can't Scar," as she looked up, she was like an abandoned puppy looking up at her owner.
"You called me Scar," Scarlet said.
She had told her for a long time now that her close friends called her Scar but Amethyst just won't do it.
Scarlet extended her hand and wiped the tear in her cheek, "As your close friend, I really want you to finish it. You are the only person who could do so. We've already finished half of it, you can do the rest."
"It was your story, it was supposed to be your story. You are supposed to be the one to finish it. I am just your helper," Amethyst still insisted.
"It is precisely because I could no longer finish it that I am begging you to do so," Scarlet cried.
"Please don't beg… please…"
"Amethyst, this is my last baby. The last thing I would want to leave in this world. Her Wonderland was a story of my struggles but this story is all about how happy I am in my last days."
She pulled Amethyst head to look up at her, "In this story, I could tell all the other people who might experience what I had to keep going. That in so many ways, they can still keep on living. They could still find things that are beautiful in this world. That despite their own fates being so unfair, so cruel, they could still do something that could inspire more people."
She wiped her own tears before continuing, "That is why I need you to finish it for me because you are the closest who saw how I had lived my last days."
Amethyst could only hug her tight and burry her head on her shoulder, "You're so unfair. You are the unfair one."
"I know. I know," Scarlet replied while patting her back.
*****
"Where's Amethyst?" Slate asked upon entry after his duty.
"I asked her to buy some stuffs," she replied.
"Why? I could have done it myself," he asked in furrowed brows.
"Because I want to speak with you," she said with a smile.
She extended her hand and despite the confusion, Slate came close and held it.
"She is a wonderful lady, Slate," she started.
His frown deepens, "What are you suddenly talking about?"
"As compared to all the ladies that passed by your life. She is the only one who was able to touch your life as deep as it is. Made you feel all different kinds of emotions when all along you were suppressing them."
"Seriously, what are you talking about sis?"
Scarlet smiled, "I know that you were able to bring out everything when you went to Sagada to check on her."
Slate looked to the side and breathed deeply, "What do you want to hear from me Scar? What do you want me to do?"
"I want you to be strong Slate. I want you to stand strong and support her as well."
Slate scoffed, "Are you listening to what you are saying Scar?"
He let her hand go before brushing his hair up, "You want me to support someone when I myself are about to breakdown. When I myself does not even know how I should continue. You still want me to look after someone? Aren't you a bit too cruel Scar?"
He turned his back and left the room.
"Slate!!"
Scarlet cried out but he still left.
Amethyst, who had just returned, saw him rushing out and without second thought she followed him to the emergency exit.
Slate rushed up to the roof of the hospital and upon getting there he started punching on the nearest wall.
"AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
He cried out and punched more to release everything.
Once Amethyst got there, his knuckles were already bleeding.
"What are you doing? Stop that!!" she grabbed his arm to stop him.
"Let me go!!" he pulled his arm from her causing her to be pushed back and fall down.
"What are you doing right now?" she asked him as she stood up, not minding the pain.
"Leave me alone."
"I won't."
"I'm begging you to leave me alone," he said in gritted teeth.
"And I am saying I won't because I can see just how much you are breaking down right now," she replied with conviction.
He shook his head, "She wanted me to take care of you but look at you now, you are strong enough. Why must I look after you when I myself am breaking down?"
His last words were almost shouting at her.
"Then don't," she replied not backing down.
"Don't look after me," she repeated.
"She asked me to," he argued.
"She asked you to but that doesn't mean it is your duty. She wanted us to watch over each other, because she asked me to look after you as well."
He could only wipe his face in agitation.
"You don't have to do everything Slate. If you can't, then don't. Let me guess," she started.
"She told you to be strong and support me as well, didn't she?"
He looked away.
"Because those same words were given to me. But because you are bottling everything up, that you feel as if she is giving you a duty. But that's not it, she wants us to support one another for she knew just as I have no one. Once she is gone, you too, have no one."
Slate looked at her this time, the anger has finally subsided.
"Just as she is leaving us with one another, she also left us to other people. What she wanted was for us not to crash, not to break apart because of her death. Because she wanted us to get back up on our feet."
Slate leaned back on the wall behind him and slowly sat down on the floor.
Amethyst walked to him and kneeled in front of him.
"She is in more pain in this death than you are, because she couldn't do anything more. Not for herself, not for you. Don't blame her too much, speak with her again. And this time listen properly. Listen to everything she wants to say."
Just as she cried in Scarlet's arms a while ago, Slate bent forward and leaned his head on her shoulder.
She could only place her hand on his hair, as tears fell from her eyes as well.
After he calmed down, she urged him to return to the room while she went to the cafeteria.
The moment he opened the door, Scarlet smiled and once again extended her hand.
