Magic Theory

"What are you talking about, mother?" Ren asked. He's aware to what she said, the question is, how she came to know that he has already awakened?

"Hm, I have been paying you a lot of attention. You always look so troubled and confused these past few days, so I followed you to figure out what is causing your stress. Then, I found out." Claire slowly explained the question he wanted to hear.

"...Found out that I have already awakened?" Ren asked in resignation, he didn't notice her following at all. He might not notice her, surely Freya sensed her presence.

'Why didn't she tell me?... Wait, where is she? Oh...' He shook his head seeing the tattoo on his palm, the vixen already hid herself.

"Yes, don't worry I won't ask anything further and I swear to not tell anyone. Well, will you accept mother's offer?" Claire patted his head perceiving his emotion, he didn't want this secret to be known yet.

"...Yeah, I appreciate it." Ren nodded gratefully.

"Good, don't hate mother for being strict, okay?" Claire lowered her body to his level, pinching his cheeks

"... Don't treat me like a child." Ren removed her hand.

"You are a child, andI will treat you as one." Claire smiled at him.

"Right... I almost forgot." Ren mumbled.

"What element do you have an affinity with?" Claire asked.

Ren was currently together with Claire at the wilderness.

"Lightning." Ren answered.

"It's pretty good, lightning element is known to be one of the strongest elements." Claire nodded in praise, she is proud that he got the lightning element.

"Is that so?" Ren wasn't exactly surprised.

"Let me assess on what you have learned so far from reading all those magic books in the library. What is magic?" Claire put it in her mind that Ren is still a kid and has only spend at most five days in the library. The question she asked is very simple.

"Magic. it's a power that is formed by magical power. It has the capability to make the impossible, possible. In magic, there is no such thing as limits, everything has a possibility—

"Correct... eh?" Claire was about to praise him before stopping.

—or so the books says, but in my own opinion, magic is the power that could bend and influence the natural law of the world, yes, this is the impossible to possible that is mentioned in the books, however, that is only in theory.

It has never been proven, it's been like how many millennials now? Yet, all living life forms with magic can't offset the law of the world. Death, for example, no matter how amazing one is even if you are an ancient dragon you can't still escape the hands of death.

Those shady groups that existed for thousands of years researching immortality, showed no results. The rate of magic development is extremely slow, that's why, in my opinion. Stating that the impossible can be possible is a pipe dream, and this needs to be change until they truly discover magic's full potential and limit.

There is a chance of the statement being true if we calculate it by time, eventually, maybe millions of years later it will be a fact. It could still be debated, if all of us continued existing by then.

Only a god or a goddess can confidently state that their power can turn the impossible to something possible. Their power may also be magic itself, a magic way superior, or it can be called a divine power that is several layers above magic. I won't deny the statement, since there is some truth in it.

Finally, I would like to add. In this world, in this era, magic is a means to an end. Solving conflicts, in particular, magic is the 'weapon' used to grant people's desire.

Living beings don't learn magic for the sake of magic, because they can just use [War Puppets] to do things for them. Living beings learn magic because of their desire for something more, they desire the heights that [War Puppets] can't hope to reach. The desire for Ultimate Power."

"...you're done? What can I say, I'm speechless." Claire looked at him in surprise, she never thought that her simple question could be answered with that degree of comprehension.

"Uhh... no, I mean, I'm just reminiscing things. The answer to your question was the first couple of sentences I said." Ren scratched his head, actually the things he just added, it was what someone wrote in one of the top comments of the novel.

He just wanted to incorporate the commentators knowledge in this world. Why? He was grateful even if he didn't know if it was a guy or a girl but that person kept on supporting him every day. That person was one of the reason why he lasted for so long.

"Surely, you haven't been reading books just recently. Okay, continue and say all the things you have learned related to magic before I teach you." Claire smiled, she was happy with him being that knowledgeable in this field. The field of magic.

"Hm, the only thing I know left is the relation between magic, magical power and elements..." Ren thought for a moment before speaking.

"Okay, go on." Claire nodded.

"Elements, it is said that the elements came from the gods and goddeses that embodies them. Element in nature is said to be made up of a lot of concentrated magical power as their properties.

Since magical power forms magic, elements that is made up of magical power can also form magic. Magic formed by elements is called elemental magic. While magic formed by magical power are for example, summoning magic, binding magic, and etc... as long as it's not related to the elements... We can write their relationship like this." Ren took out a notebook from his pocket before writing and showing it to Claire.

(Magical power > Magic) (Elements > Magic) (Magical Power <> Elements)

"Oh! I never knew you have been studying a lot about magic. The only downside of your knowledge is you don't have experience." Claire praised him. Patted his head.

"Yeah, that's why I wanted to find a teacher." Ren nodded.

"With your status in the family how would you find a teacher on your own?... No matter, mother will teach you now, anyway." Claired sighed thiking about his status in the household which kept going down day by day.

"Can you teach me magic, now? I already said everything I have learned." Ren said while thinking inwardy.

'Even if you didn't offer on teaching me magic. With my knowledge how could I not get a teacher? It's really easy but it's troublesome as I need to go to the city. Freya could help me going there, but on how to convince on getting the teacher to teach me may prove to make me waste a lot of time.'

"Mhn, now listen properly..." It was the start of Claire's teaching.
