When Arthur opened his eyes again, he found himself in a not very large white room. There was nothing but a bed on which Arthur lay comfortably. It seemed like he was in a hospital. Just as Arthur was about to get up, the door to his room opened and his parents and another lady came in through the door. His mother ran up to Arthur nervously and asked him if everything was okay. The doctor finally interrupted her to announce the diagnosis.
"Arthur, it's good that you're awake again. First of all, congratulations on awakening your skills. You once awakened the ice ability, which is a mutation of the water element, and you also awakened the blue lightning ability. Both very rare and strong skills. However, as you may have noticed, you collapsed from severe pain in your eyes and to investigate this phenomenon we would have to do a few more tests, " told the doctor.
The woman led Arthur into some sort of laboratory with all kinds of different complex looking devices and then asked him to put on glasses. In addition, a kind of dome was put on him, which according to the woman is supposed to measure his brain activity.
Then the woman led Arthur into a large room, almost a hall. The room was made of gray material. In the middle of the room was an elongated table with all kinds of everyday but also strange objects. The woman asked him to stand in the middle. Arthur did as she said and stood in the middle of the room next to the table with all the tech on his head.
The woman went into the room with Arthur's parents from which she could control and observe everything. Arthur could now hear what he had to do over a loudspeaker. He was asked to look at things that contain mana. He could look at everything without any problems without feeling the slightest pain.
Then he was asked to touch things. Everything is still fine. The woman then asked Arthur to try to absorb mana from the objects. So Arthur went from object to object and easily absorbed the mana of each one until he got to the last object, the mana stone.
It was just a small stone that could be bought for little money, but it would still be more effective than all of the things Arthur had absorbed before combined. When Arthur put his hand back on the stone and began to absorb it, he immediately felt a sharp pain in his eyes. He immediately withdrew his hand from the mana stone and he felt the pain begin to ease immediately. The test was then ended and Arthur was able to leave the room again.
Arthur stepped out of the room and went straight to the control center to get his diagnosis. He was confident that it was nothing bad and something that could be easily cured, but he wasn't entirely sure. He had also never heard of such a phenomenon that someone could not absorb mana stones, otherwise they would be in severe pain. There were people who had such a small mana store that they could not absorb the mana, but they did not experience any pain when trying.
When he arrived in the observation room, his parents and the doctor were waiting for him. Arthur looked at his parents, who gave him blank looks. Arthur couldn't read those looks, which is why he looked at the doctor. She looked at her pad and scribbled something on her notes. When she was done she looked up and looked Arthur deep in the eyes. And said then,
"It seems like you have mana eyes."
