CHAPTER 4

I got home later that night exhausted.

I didn't eat the left over sushi that mom had saved for me in the freezer.

I walked straight ahead to my room where I dropped on my bed like a sac and waited for sleep to take over.

Sleep had started creeping in when it was rudely interrupted by my buzzing phone.

It was Crysta calling.

I answer and say,"You better be dying for you to call me at such an hour!"

"Chill out Maya!"Crysta screams.

"Why does it sound like you're in a party right now,"I ask,having heard all the noise that was in her background.

"Because I am!"Crysta screams and laughs so loud that I pull away from the phone to save my ears from damage.

"Don't you ever get tired?"

"Of partying,no! Of having a kill joy best friend who passed on every party,yes!"

"I've had a very exhausting night Crysta. I needed a rest."

"All I had was blah blah blah and more blah."

"Okay Crysta I'm going to hang up."

"Wait! Don't hang up just yet. I had a question fro you."

"It better be important Crysta or I'm hanging up."

"It is! And would you just chill!"

"Ask your question already! I wanna go to bed!"

"Okay. What happened between you and Carrie before I came back out there?"

That question drives all my sleep away. I sat upright on my bed with my eyes popped out.

"No..nothing. Why ask? Did...she say that... something happened?"I stammered.

"Not really. She just kept asking if you're coming to her party. Then when I told her you were not she seemed pretty bummed. In fact,she asked me to make this call to see if I can convince you to come. So I just thought that maybe you two vibed or something."

"Really?"I ask. "Why does she want me there?"

"Girl,I don't know. You tell me."

"I also have no idea,"I say.

"So nothing happened?"

"Yeah, nothing happened,"I lied.

"Okay then. I'm guessing you wanna go to bed. I'm sorry for disturbing you. Goodnight Maya."

"On the contrary,"I answered as I got out of bed. "Send me Carrie's address. I'm coming to the party."

"Go girl!"Crysta cheered and hang up.

Seconds later I received a message containing Carrie's home address.

I went in for a quick showe,put on my black sweats,a grey sweatshirt and my favourite converse then headed out silently.

Raya and mom were asleep and I didn't want to make any noise that would wake either of them.

AT CARRIE'S HOUSE.

"Maya!"Crysta called our when she spots me wiggling my way through the crowd of strangers.

"Finally!"I said with a sigh. "I thought I would never find you!"

"Here,I got you a drink,"she said as she handed me a red tumbler with a spiked smoothie.

"How much alcohol is in this thing?"I asked after tasting and realising that the taste was mostly that of alcohol.

"I don't know. As Carrie,"she said as she too drank hers. "Speak of the devil."

I turn only to see Carrie walking towards us with a smile on her face..

"Hi,"she greeted once she got to us.

"Hey,"Crysta and I answered in unison.

"So,Maya,"Carrie began,"I didn't think you would make it."

"Neither did I,"I answered with a light chuckle.

"It's all thanks to me,"Crysta said as she pulled Carrie and I into a group hug.

This was probably the worst thing that Crysta had done.

Our faces were so close.

And by our,I mean mine and Carrie's.

I could literally feel her hot breathe on my face.

My eyes moved down to her lips which seemed to look juicier than they did earlier that night.

I lifted my eyes back to her face.

Our eyes met and we both just stared into each other.

She smirked.

I felt my cheeks going pink.

I have to get myself out of this situation,I thought.

"Okay Crysta,"I said as I pulled out of the hug. "You can take all the credit."

"Ah!"Crysta screams when I Like Me Better by Lauv is put to play,"That's my jam! I'll see you guys later."

Crysta left us there and disappeared into the crowd.

"Umm,"Carrie began as she nervously scratched the back of her head. "Can I get you anything?"

"No,"I said as I lifted my tumbler,"I'm barely through with this one."

"Oh,"she said with a nervous laugh. "I didn't notice that.

We stood there for a few minutes. Neither of us talking to the other.

I kept sipping on my drink and tried so hard not to look at her.

"Do you wanna go to some place silent?"she asks after finding the place unbearable.

"No,"I decline. "Here's just fine. Besides,I wanna listen to music.

You are so stupid Maya!

"Oh,"she said.

I could sense disappointment in her voice. "Well then,I'll get going. If you need anything I'll be in the kitchen."

"Okay,"I said and watched her walk away.

What have you done Maya!

I took a seat on a couch that was close to where I was standing.

On my left side were to boys making out while on my left were a boy and a girl also making out.

It was very uncomfortable. But I didn't want to get up. Because if I did,I would go straight into the kitchen to where Carrie was. And I'll want us to finish what we had started.

So I sat still and continued sipping on my drink.
