his story:
Doug is on a park drinking coffee. some guys stand in front of him. he knows who they are and what they are after. those guys start to make fun of Doug. he smiles at them as he accepts all the dirt they throw at him. he accepts every insult.
sometimes to avoid a real conflict. one must take all the shit the world throws. also to give your best smile. those guys keep saying shit. one of them slaps him. they all laugh. Doug couldn't hold his tongue.
"hey you, did yar mama told you how I gave her a black kiss. oh holy be the lord. she definitely will do anything for some dollars. I mean, you already knew that, right son?"
said Doug smiling expecting what was to come.
if they are going to beat the shit out of him. then lets give them a reason to do it. if he is going to have some broken bones, then there better be a hell of a reason.
the guy punches Doug on the face. he falls on the floor. they start kicking him. they scream some nasty words. they hit him with all their strength. Doug starter laughing like a crazy man. he laugh harder the more it hurt. the more pain he felt, the louder he was.
Doug feels he is kicked on the face. he loses consciousness. he is looking at the sky with wonder. he felt the sky's tears. the sky was crying on his honor. Doug smiled as he was thinking about the angel, the angel who comes to him, the angel on his dreams.
Doug spits blood. he faints looking at the sky. a stranger found him on the floor. he was beaten up so badly there was a lot of blood. it seems like nothing was broken, well nothing besides his spirit. he was taken to the hospital.
two days later Doug was out of the hospital. he was on school like nothing happened. he was asked about the incident. he never said the names of the culprits, it wasn't fear to them nor respect. he just felt like it wasn't worth it.
life keeps moving. why should a person be stuck on a matter of the past? to continue, we must learn to forgive. not because is the right thing, but because it is healthy. they will forget and keep living. why should a person be poised by those emotions.
ever since Katherine came back to school, Doug has being avoiding her. he can't stop the memories of that night, he doesn't want to act awkward in front of her. maybe she also wants to avoid him. maybe he is doing her a favor. that is what he thinks.
one time he was reading while walking. he had a book about rare flowers. he feels like he should look up. he looks up to see Katherine in front of him. she smiles at him. Doug feels unsure of what to say or do.
"hello. it is me. the guy who found you. it is good to see that you are better now."
"why didn't you came to visit again? I was waiting for your visit. you really are a strange guy. I don't mean to offend, strange doesn't mean bad."
"sorry. I actually didn't wanted you to feel uncomfortable because of me. I suspected that if I kept visiting, it will make you feel uncomfortable. I am glad to see that you are better now. I was so scare when I found you that night."
they kept talking. the conversation was basic. it was simple. Katherine left. Doug was feeling his heart moving so fast, so fast it could almost leave his body. he was blushing as he remembers her sweet smile. he sighs.
Doug isn't sure if he should avoid her, or if there is a maybe on a future. he knows he shouldn't get his hopes up. the heart can be selfish and stupid. the brain isn't a proper tool when it comes to emotions. Doug feels pathetic.
that night he couldn't sleep. again he had those nightmares with the angel. the dream starts beautiful and hopeful, then it gets creepy and scary. once the nightmare ends. Doug wakes up sweating. he wakes up trembling.
life continues, time keeps moving. it has been three months since that night. three months since the day Doug found her dying. he doesn't talk to her, they aren't even friends nor anything alike. he talked to her once or twice.
one day, Doug stayed on the library studying for an exam. Doug looks at the clock. it was seven pm. it was already dark outside. Doug takes his things. he was leaving. as he was leaving, he notices Katherine walking on the street. he wanted to talk to her.
Doug is about to keep going. he notice a man following Katherine. the man seems to be a super creepy stalker. Doug follows them, just to make sure that nothing happens. somehow he can feel it. that man is about to do something.
"I shouldn't be doing this. there are cops, there are teachers, there are strong classmates, basically anyone can do a better job. I am no hero."
Doug was trying to stop himself. but his body didn't listen to his reason. it is like if his body has a mind of its own. he keeps moving avoiding to drag too much attention. he cared too much to let her get hurt. he doesn't care if she doesn't know he exist.
Doug found on the floor a walking stick. he takes it. now he has a weapon to protect her. now he can be her Hero, only once. it doesn't matter if she hates him for this.
the stalker is no other than the ex. he wants to take revenge. he feels like she destroyed his life and future. it is only right to punish who does you wrong. those are the excuses he tells himself, the pretext to hurt another human being.
he pulls Katherine on a dark street. she tries to fight back. he hits her on the head with his own fist. she falls on the floor. she is about to scream. there is no one, no one to protect her of this psycho nor anyone who cares about her safety.
she closes her eyes like accepting her fate. maybe she was meant to die that night. is there a reason to live? no, probably not. Katherine is ready, ready to be another name on the newspapers. another victim of the violence on a dangerous city.
then out of nowhere came her hero. from behind Doug uses the walking stick, he hits the Ex on his soft parts. the ex falls on the floor. Doug keeps hitting him. he hits the ex on two places, the face & the soft parts. the walking stick is hard as hell.
"why do you keep hitting him on the same two parts?"
asks Katherine out of curiosity.
"right. if I learned something while being beaten up on a daily basis, is that once you break something. the other person isn't going to stand for at least half an hour. pain is a gift to the the giver, and a curse to the receiver."
said Doug with an evil smile.
he hits so hard the ex. there is a sound. the sound of something that breaks. the ex screams feeling extreme pain. the pain was too much for him to stay awake. he faints. Doug looks at the unconscious man. maybe he took it a bit too far.
Doug called the police. an ambulance took the ex. Doug was taken by the cops. even if he attacked the man to protect Katherine. that last hit went too far, maybe. Katherine was there. to make sure the Ex gets punish and Doug gets out.
ever since then Doug was nicknamed, Doug the 'Nutcracking Dog.' not a nickname to be happy about. but there is always some good after some bad. his relationship with Katherine took two steps forward. they became friends, really good friends.
after what happened she wasn't ready for romance. Doug understood that well. so he was okay with being her friend. they became really close. if there is something about Doug that is different from other guys, is that he is genuine. he is honest.
some months later. their last year of high school came to an end.
Them:
comes college. Doug is still the same fragile looking guy. somehow he became popular among girls. Katherine felt like there was competition. she asked him out on a date.
they started dating. everything was perfect. or at least they wanted it to be perfect. but the fact that their schools are far from each other. plus the little time they have free. it is clear their relationship wasn't going to last, not for too long.
none of them was ready to give up on their love story. they wanted it to last longer. sadly life was saying otherwise. there was little they could do. at the end of the day both were so young. too young to understand life.
one day Doug had a verbal argument with other guys. those other guys were stronger, they had actual muscles. they beat the shit out of him. Katherine came to the rescue. she defended her lover. those guys left. Doug was bleeding plenty from his face.
Doug screams at Katherine. he said some hurtful things. he took out his anger on her. she said some hurtful things to him. they started crying as they kept screaming. they stopped fighting. they hug each other. Doug asks for forgiveness.
"I don't understand what is going on. I am afraid of losing you. I am afraid of you finding a better person than me. I don't want to lose you. I know I am the most pathetic man, but it is just that... I love you, I love you so much I am afraid of you finding out, finding how pathetic I truly am."
"I love you more. I hate how other women look at you. I hate how it makes me feel everything. I feel like I am just getting on your way. every single damn time we talk, you always sound so tired. I am afraid of you getting tired of me. I am afraid of you finding how insecure I am with my self. how insecure I feel about my body, about my personality, and at times even about my love for you. am I loving you enough?"
"shit. I am such a garbage boyfriend for not being good enough. I am sorry if I ever made you feel bad about our relationship. I am sorry if I am ever too distracted. I promise to be a better boyfriend."
they hug. they promised eternal love to each other. they promised so much. their relationship improved. it lasted one whole year, that is how long their romance lasted.
Doug found her kissing another guy, that day Doug was holding flowers & chocolate. he knew they had problems. he didn't had the strength to face her. he didn't say shit. he just left. later he left a note on her door, a note describing what he saw. it was over.
he stops all contact with her. they kept going with their lives. both of them started playing games from Son of Sun. he used Dog-Boy as his username. she used Cat-Girl as her username. they played at times with each other. they never recognized each other.
Cat-Girl dated some times. but she never found joy. every time she thinks about him, the guy who she let go. maybe the only one who made her feel loved. somehow she always expected to find him again.
Dog-Boy felt so much resentment. he became better looking. he dressed better. he started to date as many ladies as he could. he was never ever loyal to any of them. he always used the same old pretext. 'I don't love, to not be betrayed. I hurt hearts, to teach them about the cruelty of the real world.'
he became what she hated the most. she became a shadow that follows him. she couldn't forget his face or words. he couldn't remember her face or voice.
her:
Katherine is 28 years old. she haven't seen anyone on a long time. she just works to live. she has a part-time job. her life became boring. there is no brightness on it. at times she dreams of a gentleman calling her 'my angel.' or 'angel of hearts.'
she lost contact with her parents. lost contact with anyone from her past. Katherine knows that Doug loved her. she knows he was a good guy. she can't even remember why she cheated on him. she keeps blaming herself.
one day a strange man appeared in front of her. he called himself the Ferryman. he had a copy of Son of Sun's latest game. he asked her if she wanted to play it. Katherine asked for the price. Ferryman said it was free with a creepy smile.
"but why are you giving me this game for free?"
"it isn't for free, the price is just something for you to see later. there is something that mortals can't overcome, that is their hunger for answers created by their curiosity. you are weak mortal, so is your soul. I truly am not sure of your worth."
"thanks super creepy dude."
that night Katherine went to her home. she wasn't tire. she chose to play the new game. the game was okay. she meets Dog-Boy on the game. she knew already who he was. she just didn't wanted to accept it.
the department in which she lives wasn't well constructed. it fell on pieces. she was on the lowest floors. a big furniture fell on her head. she died decapitated.
Him:
Doug became 28 years old today. he is studying law school. he has a girlfriend he loves, well not really. he isn't loyal to her. even when she is a really good person. she knows he isn't loyal, but she pretends to not know. 'for love' she says.
Doug smokes at times. becoming a lawyer wasn't his dream. is what he studies now. he feels like life is becoming boring. it is harder to smile. it is harder to think of tomorrow without feeling drowned by the present. the past was erased on the yesterday.
Doug doesn't love his girlfriend. but he is saving to buy the ring. it is more an obligation, or more like to not be alone. this life may not be what he wanted, but at least he can keep moving if he isn't alone. romance is for dreamers, not a realistic man like him.
on the streets he saw a strange man. he was wearing a black coat. short blue hair. red bright eyes. pale skin. a terrifying presence. he called himself 'the Ferryman.' he offered a copy of 'Son of Sun's The First Son.' it was strange.
"man, you are a creepy looking stranger. you are giving me a new game for free. do you expect me to believe that?"
the Ferryman nods. he had a creepy laughter that would be a red flag to a sane man.
"okay, I believe you. thanks man. no way on hell I am returning this. hell yeah man, some fun time to come."
Doug takes the game with no doubt. he leaves screaming with joy. the Ferryman was surprise for how easy was his job. he just left feeling confuse. he is still trying to understand humans. they are the most strange and rare species on the world.
that night Doug ate something spoiled. then he died by food poisoning while playing. just like that the two lovers ended on the same game, on the same night.
Son of Sun's the First Son, came long before Immoral Punishment of the Immortals.
