"tell me a tale, about no tale."
"tell me a story about the imaginary."
"a tale is no longer a tale when it is told by a person's own experience..... a person's experience becomes a tale, when there is no clear line between fiction and reality. when the one telling the tale no longer knows how much of it is their own experience."
"now tell me a tale about your own tale. don't make it too fancy, don't make it too surreal, just make it simple. a simple tale about the little girl who hides from the world...."
Leah opens her eyes.
she is in a dark room. some lightning illuminates the room. even with light it looks dark and creepy. Leah looks up at the ceiling.
someone knocks on the door. there is a loud noise. Leah tries to pretend to be asleep. there are some loud screams. there are strange sounds. more screams.
this younger Leah is looking at the door. she closes her eyes. she makes a wish. the world isn't perfect. the world isn't beautiful. but even then there was something special about that old world.
then Leah was just seven years old. then her whole family was slaughter. the killers of her family were some gangsters. her mother had a debt. and Leah lose everything when she was just seven.
a young Leah was send to an orphanage. she didn't had more family. no one to take care of her. she was alone on the world. on a strange place she tried to be. the sadness, the darkness, the past, many things stopped her from enjoying those days.
for months, for a long time she was alone. no one talked to her, and she didn't talked to anyone as she kept herself on a corner. there was a worker on the orphanage, a man who seemed to be kind. an old man who always smiled at her.
"a wolf can smell another wolf. a wolf can see through the disguise of lamb you use."
"you aren't a lamb, a lamb walks with ignorance of the darkness. a lamb is blind to the true colors of the world. a lamb is deaf towards other's suffering. a lamb walks to the slaughter and accepts it. a lamb calls the slaughterhouse its 'Destiny.' you are no lamb."
"a wolf like you and me, like us can see the world for what it is. we pretend to be lambs. no ignorance, but because it is more convenient. we know what survival taste like as we push the 'real' lambs off the cliff."
"don't be afraid of your own species. don't be afraid of your own kind. it is our instinct that allow us to live another day. we wolves work better together. we do better when we are with our own kind."
"now, don't be afraid and take your righteous place. take your shield. take your sword. take your armor. take your gunpowder. from now on you will follow my orders...."
Leah wakes up on the middle of the night. she struggles breathing. there is a loud noise coming from outside. Leah can tell now, she knows that there is something happening out there, outside. there is a scream.
now that Leah has become ten, she was finally getting use to this place. she was trying to feel at home. she listens to her instincts. something inside of her screams. she is told to not leave her room. she stayed in there hopping everything will be better tomorrow.
the next morning she heard the news. the nice old man had died. he had a heart attack while driving a car. others were badly wounded. those screams from last night, those weren't human screams, those are the screams of a shadow on her present.
another two years had to pass. then there was a fire that ate a third of the facility. on that fire many were wounded, also the fire left twenty-four corpses. for some reason bad luck kept following Leah.
Leah was send to another orphanage. in there she was adopted by a nice couple. every day on school she was bullied by other girls. the boys used nicknames on her. the 'nice' couple are drug dealers. they adopted her to pretend to be your regular family.
they really thought that with a girl, no cop will doubt of their legal work. things didn't went so well when an undercover cop went after them. and they were on the run. they tried to avoid the law with Leah. they never hit her, nor do any harm to her.
sadly the 'nice' couple didn't care enough about her. they didn't gave her love. the love she always wished to receive. they didn't listen to her. soon enough they were on a hard position when the cops were behind their tail. in a car crash that chapter ended.
the nice couple survived with some serious wounds. they went to jail. Leah was once more alone on the world. this time a cop decided to adopt her. he became her last father figure. he was a complicate figure with a good heart.
"don't be afraid of the darkness, it isn't the darkness the real danger. it is what hides on the light what you should be afraid of. sometimes the scarier monsters pretend to be the friendliest beings."
"don't reject your inner darkness. accept it as it is. it is your inner darkness what makes you, you. don't worry at the end of the day every mortal has darkness and light. every mortal hides their inner real selves. now accept it as it is."
"the voices aren't a sign of illness. the voices are a sign of virtue, a dark kind of virtue. those are the voices of your fallen comrades. now accept your place as the holder of darkness, as a symbol of madness."
"leave your old name behind. accept your new name as proven evidence of your reincarnation as new. so as of now you are no longer you, but you are the new you. you are no longer the weak mortal, now you are the knight of true Darkness."
at the age of sixteen Leah was living with the cop. he was most of the time drunk. before he adopted Leah, he had a daughter who died too young. his wife left him. so by adopting Leah he expected to filled a hole on his heart. it never happen.
the world kept moving forward. everywhere Leah went there was tragedy to follow. maybe she was curse, maybe she was the most unlucky person alive, or just maybe the world hated her. well it didn't matter. it was all a living hell.
Leah felt her growing rage for the world. her rebellion against fate. she felt like chaos was her destiny. a tragedy was meant to be the tale. she felt like falling deep inside of a lake unable to get out. she felt like drowning.
one day a twenty-two years old Leah woke up. she was barely living. she had given up on finding meaning on life. she had a boyfriend or two. she made a friend or two. every relationship ended on the same way. they all ended hurting her.
"the sea collects the tears of the broken ones, the rain covers the broken souls. we will become dust, but before that we are water. we live by water. without water we cease to be. there is no live without water, jet when you are cut. the only water that comes out is red and bright like death."
"the human always speaks of the soul, as if it was the force of all innocence, and everything pure. jet there is nothing pure either on their body or inner self. if humans have a soul, then what really is said soul. it is clear the soul isn't moral nor pure. then what is that 'soul' hidden on our inner selves."
"there is no difference between a mortal body and an immortal body. humans were created as dolls to look like immortals. if the immortals who are perfection itself don't have souls, then how can a cheap copy like a mortal can have one."
"tears, sweat, blood. those are things that can make a mortal look inferior. jet there are cases when you can see an immortal on a weak shape. immortals can cry, and bleed."
"fear not my words, but fear the rage of an immortal. be aware that immortals are already dangerous with no emotions. now that there is rage, there will be more for you to fear."
one day Leah woke up.
her life fast like a thunderbolt. jet it became slow like a mute movie on the last phase. now that she is on her thirties she feels older. there is no light on her eyes. Leah awaits for the credits at the end of the movie.
last night she left her workplace. she walked directly towards a bridge. there was a middle age man next to her. he made a comment about death. then he left.
Leah went to her home. she took a pill bottle. she ate all the pills. she awaited for the end of her life. as she awaits someone knocks on the door. they open the door. a middle age gentleman gets inside of her home. he asks her a simple question.
"do you want to live."
Leah cries. she didn't know what else to do, nor say. she kept crying. the gentleman puts a headset of VR on her head. he connects her to a Son of Sun game.
Leah closes her eyes. then she opens her eyes. she is now inside one of Son of Sun's many games. she is confuse and scare. Leah is trying to understand what is going on. she looks around. she is in the middle of nowhere.
Leah is standing in the middle of a meadow. everything is so green and beautiful. she has never felt so much peace on her entire life. a figure walks in front of her. he presents himself as the Ferryman.
he has an offer for her. she can have a restart of her life. a better, happier, joyful one. in exchange for the perfect life she has to be his Executioner first. she has to eliminate those who he seems to be dangerous.
everything she does as the Executioner will be erase, she won't remember a thing. it is the perfect deal for her. Leah accepts without asking a single question. she wanted to believe that there is faith on a new life. a new start.
mortals can explore complex emotions, something an immortal will never understand. mortals learn to appreciate and love life on their short lives. they can smile to death. they can cry or laugh. they can enjoy of the most simple meal.
an immortal like Ferryman can never understand the beauty of a sunset. or the magic of the beach, the sea, the stars. those are things that feel mundane for an eternal being. those are things that lose meaning after an eternity.
all Deities are immortal, but none is a true immortal. all Deities are called immortals for their long never ending lives. jet they can be killed or die. a Deity stays alive by absorbing energy from the mortals. this can be their faith, their prayers, blood or souls.
it is for their immortality and denial towards eternal slumber. it is for their fear for an actual death that the Deities of the past accepted a deal. it is for that deal that the Son of sun Corporation now exists. mortal souls are necessary for them to live.
some old Deities are fine with their lives. some forgot about the old days. and there are other Deities, those who are plotting to regain control of the mortal realm. they wish to kill the Actual Gods. and then are Ancient Forgotten Pagan Gods.
the Ancient Forgotten Pagan Gods lived on the Birth of All. then they were banished on the Second Genesis of the world. those Gods are True Immortals. those are the Gods who gave birth to themselves and to the universe. they gave birth to the former gods.
nobody knows how the Actual Gods were born. some believed the resentment of the Ancient Forgotten Pagan Gods created them. they were created to supersede the former Deities. others believed the mortals created them with prayers of pure souls.
back to the story; Leah was now an Executioner. Leah was given a new name. she was given an opportunity. the Ferryman made a promise to her. in exchange for her loyalty. she will be given a Divine Tear.
after ending some targets. one day she was given a new target 'Beau Nguyen.' something was different this time. it wasn't just execution. she needed to follow him for a while until she was given the order, to end his life.
there is a small problem as she started to know Beau. she never expected to like him. and he more she knew him. the more an emotion grow inside of her. eventually when she was told to kill him. she was already in love.
the Executioner didn't know of love. didn't understood the complexity of emotions. the Executioner didn't know she was in love until it was too late. but all of that isn't the focus of today's tale. it is jet too soon to talk about that part.
the real tale of Leah, the Executioner doesn't start when she was alive, young, or felt regret for her life. the real tale begins after her mortal death. it is now that the actual tale begins.
also there is something to make clear here. Leah was her original name. before she became an Executioner. in all her life as an Executioner she only gave her actual name to one person, and one person only. you already know his name. he died by her hand.
