Hao Jin sat beside Chen Jiang doing nothing for the first one hour without complaining. Then he started becoming bored. However he still patiently waited. Chen Jiang noticed this but continued with the Disciple Recruitment without any change.
Chen Jiang continued with the same pace. He took just 30 seconds with each disciple. He gave his decision in an instant. The observing elders were astounded. They did not say anything but wanted to check whether or not his decisions were accurate. They quickly noted which disciples he selected and which Mountain they were assigned to.
It wasn't that they did not have any trust in him. It was his recruitment. He could do whatever he wanted. But he was also contributing greatly to the sect as a whole if the disciples he was recruiting truly suited the Mountains he was sending them to.
They did not say anything about his age though. Because they knew that even though he looked young, the Grand Elder was behind him. Moreover, they heard a lot of rumors among the higher elders that even the Sect Leader was behind him.
Hao Jin was the 888th candidate. He was lucky in that sense. He got a very lucky number. But he had to wait for around 3000 more candidates to go through their process.
Since he would get bored doing nothing and simply looking around, Hao Jin decided to watch how the Elder and his hopefully new master was selecting his disciples.
"Guo Jun."
"Cultivation is not the correct path for you."
""Meng Ning."
"Cultivation is not the correct path for you."
"..."
Hao Jin was confused. According to his entire life experience, everyone he knew judged someone by comparing their age with their cultivation base and then checked for any talent or physique. But this Elder was just saying that the person was not fit for cultivation in a few seconds. Was he really testing them?
What if he was a scammer and just saying whatever he wanted? But he looks so handsome that he won't scam anyone. That's what elder sister says - handsome men are the best in the world and one must always trust them.
Hao Jin decided not to question the process of this Elder. He just sat down and continued watching.
After a day, Hao Jin saw that the crowd and slowly decreased. Out of the 3000 disciples, only 100 were either selected into the Immortal Sword Sect or sent to other sects. That meant that the chance that he had in actually getting selected was absurdly low.
Hao Jin was grateful to Chen Jiang for giving him the chance to get into the Immortal Sword Sect. His parents had very strictly told him to get in no matter what it took. This was why he was sitting beside Chen Jiang.
In this entire time, there was no break for meals so Hao Jin was starving this entire time. Chen Jiang hadn't asked him and Hao Jin didn't want to take any risks. Why was this person so cruel? Did he have to be so cruel and starve him.
The next half a day passed similarly. Chen Jiang finished the last person and looked beside him. He saw Hao Jin sitting obediently beside him. He smiled and gently poked him. Hao Jin fell stiffly to the side.
Hao Jin had been sitting in the sun for 2 entire days without any food and water. He was only 6 years old and his body couldn't take it so he fainted. Chen Jiang gently lifted him up and put him in his lap. Then he turned around and slowly went back to his Mountain.
"Elder Chen! What should we do with these disciples?"
The other elders stopped Chen Jiang.
"Take them to the Mountains that I suggested. They will do good there."
"Okay Elder Chen. When will you register your disciple?"
"You do not have to worry about that. I have an arrangement with Grand Elder Lu."
Chen Jiang slowly went to the mountain and entered his courtyard. By the time he reached his house, the moon was at its peak. He entered the house and went into one of the spare rooms. He placed Hao Jin on the bed there and went outside to the courtyard.
He found Grand Elder Lu there.
"You have done that much for one disciple?"
"It is to make sure that I have more chances for emergency recruitments."
"What are you achieving by doing this? Your master's peace? By recruiting one disciple?"
"Recruiting a hundred useless disciples to pass on one's legacy will only be degrading the legacy. That is not the way of the 36th Mountain. The 36th Mountain will not force geniuses to learn the 36th Mountain sword style. That will be degrading the Genius' talent."
"You are very unorthodox. What are you planning to achieve?"
"I have spoken."
