The Start of a Duo

We walked on a path that lead towards the base of the Chaos Children. Rina lead the way and I just trailed behind. I could only vaguely remember what the landscape looked like. Anything beyond locations I couldn't remember...I couldn't remember my friends of the past nor my family other than my biological family. I looked ahead and saw a base and Rina stopped then smiled.

"Welcome to the home of us Chaos Children! Come on, you have to meet the Overseer and my friends!" Rina giggled and took my arm then ran towards the base.

I was dragged along as if I had no legs to walk on my own. We entered the base and was in the hang out area. A woman was standing by the window and she turned around, giving us a smile. I looked at the woman and her warm smile. The others looked at us as well.

"Huh? Did you find someone that was laying on the street?" A female said.

"Yeah he looks pretty roughed up..his clothes are all torn and worn out." Another female said. "And those bandages on his right arm...Rina who is this guy?"

"This is Steven! The guy who is gonna help us all!" Rina did a little excited hop and smiled happily.

"Wait- HUH?! THAT Steven?! He's THAT Steven?! Are you sure?!" Ena said looking surprised

"Now Ena, why would I ever lie to you?" Rina giggled.

"He's gonna have to prove it. This would easily be an impersonator. The Steven we know has been dead for over 50 years. That's over half a century!" The female stood up.

"Hmm..?" I looked at the female who stood up and crossed my arms. "How do you want me to prove I'm real..?"

"Eek- His voice is so sharp and cold.." The female took a step back.

"Alright alright. Settle down. Leny, Ena...I can assure you this is the real Steven. I've been alive for years and I know that face when I see it. Welcome Steven, my name is Overseer Azura. I happily welcome you here and pleased you decided to come with us." The Overseer walked towards me.

"Hmph. I only came here to get business done. Making friends isn't on my mind." I said and closed my eyes.

"Ahh straight to business. I like that attitude. Alright first we will give you a change of clothes and a new wardrobe then we can start talking about the first mission." The Overseer said and walked down the hall. "Follow me please."

I took my arm away from Rina and followed the Overseer. Rina puffed her cheeks and thumped her foot on the floor. She went to sit on the couch and crossed her arms.

"What's the matter?" Ena asked.

"He doesn't seem to like me very much. Everyone I meet likes me!" Rina said and huffed.

"Give him some time. He needs to warm up and adapt to the new surroundings. After all he has been dead for 50 years...but he looks 18." Ena looked at Rina.

"Well I had to make him younger! I couldn't resist!" Rina turned her nose up and scoffed. "You wouldn't understand anyway so don't bother asking!"

"Alright geez." Ena said and rolled her eyes.

Meanwhile in the backroom, the Overseer picked out some clothes for me. A black trenchcoat, a black T-shirt, and blue jeans. She also gave me black fingerless gloves. She walked out the room so I could get changed. I changed into my new clothes and looked at myself then she walked in.

"Ahh, you look amazing." The Overseer smiled.

"Mmm..." I looked at the right sleeve and ripped off the sleeve and took the bandages around my arm off. I put on my gloves and smiled a bit.

"Huh, whatever suits you best I guess." The Overseer said and shrugged. "Come we shall now discuss the first mission."

We walked to the hang out area and I sat on the couch. The Overseer stood up and looked at us. Everyone in the room went silent and looked at the Overseer.

"As you know the heroes have wronged us time and time again. Now it is time for us to make a stand and fight! We shall get our exact revenge and show these pathetic heroes who they are messing with! We have all had something taken away from us! Some more greater than others! Our first mission will be to take out a nearby faction in District 3! I'm only sending two of you since it is a fairly small district. I am sending Steven since I want to collect data on him. Who would like to acco-"

"Me! Let me go with him!" Rina stood up. "I took the time to revive him! I should be the one who goes on missions with him! No exceptions!"

"Hmm...alright Rina. You will be teamed up with Steven for this mission. Before I set you out, do you have any questions?" The Overseer asked.

"Let's just get this over with." I said and stood up.

"Alright. Stand on that magic circle and I shall send you to your destination." The Overseer nodded.

We walked to the magic circle and I crossed my arms. Rina gave a thumbs up and smiled happily. The Overseer nodded and pressed a button then our bodies turn into blue particles and we were transported to the District 3.

"Steven, Rina can you hear me?" The Overseer said through Rina's communicator on her wrist.

"Yes, Overseer. Loud and Clear." Rina looked at her watch and a hologram appeared then I looked at the hologram.

"Your target is a hero named Vulbra. He is a Dragon Knight who has let countless innocents die. He must be stopped. If need be, kill him." The Overseer said.

"Roger." Rina said and lowered her arm. She looked at me and smiled. "Ready?"

"Mm." I nodded and walked ahead. She followed behind.

We walked into the district. A figure watched us from a roof for a bit then vanished. We looked around and saw many homeless people and people in bad living conditions. I stopped seeing a child crying and looked at him. I walked towards him and crouched down then rubbed his head. The child sniffled and looked at me.

"All will be alright soon...soon you'll have a family again and eat lots of great food." I said and gave a soft smile. The child looked at me and gave a bright smile.

"Whoa...he is great with kids what the hell?" Rina watched and crossed her arms.

I stood up and walked ahead then Rina followed again. We entered an empty field then I grabbed Rina's arm and pulled her to me. A lance crashed to the ground and a person appeared have the lance and picked it up then thrusted their lance at us quickly. I avoided the attacks and pushed Rina aside then summoned my sword and parried the next attack and dashed towards the person and slashed, hitting them with my blade. The person grunted and slid back.

"Well well...you haven't lost bit of spark in you one bit Ancient Hero. I respect a fighter like you." The person smirked and roared as flames came from his mouth. "I am Vulbra! The Dragon Knight and I will destroy all who stand in my way!"

"I hope you're ready Rina." I said and got in a stance.

"Yes! I am ready Steven! Let's get this party started!" Rina smirked and pulled out her short blade from her kimono.

Vulbra dashed towards Rina and slashed with his lance. Rina blocked the attack and grunted as she was blown back. Vulbra dashed towards me and thrusted his lance. I dodged swiftly and my afterimages vanished.

"He's fast..." Vulbra said and swung his lance. I dodged again then Rina appeared behind Vulbra and slashed down with her short black and hit his back. Vulbra groaned and growled. He bellowed and flames spiralled around him. "Die!"

He turned into a dragon and flew in the air. He charged a huge fireball and we looked at him. He shot the fireball down at us and I pulled Rina behind me and took my jacket off then tossed it aside. I caught the fireball and grunted. Rina watched in awe.

The Overseer watched on a screen and got in a thinking pose. Ena and Leny watched as well and were amazed.

"So that's the kind of fighter he is..." The Overseer said.

I kept pushing back the fireball and grunted. Rina took a step forward and placed her hand on my back and began powering me up. Vulbra blew some fire from his mouth, adding more pressure to the fireball. I grit my teeth as my canine teeth grew sharper. Sparks flew from my hair and slowly turned into flames.

"Overseer! Do you see that?!" Ena pointed at me hair. "That's..."

"Zodiac Power.." The Overseer said.

I bellowed and my hair quickly burst into flames and I transformed into my Zodiac God Mode then pushed the fireball back in the air. The fireball exploded and my aura surged like crazy. Rina was blown back as well but she recovered and looked at me. My eyes were lion like and Vulbra turned back into a human and came down with a thrust with his lance.

"Sun Shield." I held my hand out. Vulbra struck the barrier powerfully and my eyes shined brightly. "Ascension!"

I bellowed and the barrier exploded and white aura surged to the sky and Vulbra landed on his back and grunted. He sat up and looked at me. My hair was white and a special symbol named the Amatsu-Yaoke formed in my eyes. Rina stood up and looked at me. Vulbra stood up as well. He smirked and dashed towards me and thrusted his lance. I dodged the attack and punched his stomach and his armor broke. He coughed a bit of blood and slid back. He fell on one knee and chuckled.

"I forgotten how powerful you truly are Steven. Right...I will retreat for now. Next time won't be the same." Vulbra chuckled and vanished.

I turned normal and fell on my knees. I was exhausted. Rina held me up and looked at me speechless. I held onto her and stood up.

"Your body had to get used to these powers again...but that was incredible. I have never seen such powers like that before! And he said Ancient Hero. What is that about?" Rina spoke.

"I'll tell you everything when the time comes. There are things I don't even understand yet...but when it does ring a bell, I'll tell you." I said.

Rina nodded and helped me towards the Magic Circle. The Overseer turned off the monitor and smirked. She closed her eyes.

"He is the one to help us all. We finally have a foundation to stand on." The Overseer said and laughed. "These heroes no longer stand a chance! The Year of Chaos Impact Ø starts now!"
