Technology was advancing really quick, stupidly quick in fact, the Wright brothers flew their plane just 80 or so years ago if you lived in 1991 and it didn't take humans long to reach the moon at that time.

It was a peaceful day at the capital of south Korea at the year 2000 at January 1st, the people did what ever they did, the kids played together happily and the old waited for their deaths and some... Did what ever they did.
Every person on earth knows this exact moment, the 1st day of 2000. It wasn't flying cars that would be the future nor the other naive predictions of the future, it wasn't even related to space too... Very... Far from that... Their predictions were wrong and no one had a clue on what was about to happen to them.

All the lights went out at the same time, it was nearly pitch black since the classroom was right at the center of the school with no windows.
"kyaaaa!!!"
"who screamed? Lol"
"psst.. what's the answer for number 5?"
"there's a spider in your back"
"wait what really?!"
The students began chatting freely as much as they wanted since the room was pitch black, the teacher couldn't figure out who was talking and who wasn't. It was her first day as a teacher, so making them shut up was quite the task for a newbie but lucky for her someone did the job for her.

The whole room went silent, the loud chatting between the students immediately stopped as a huge explosion quaked the entire school building.

There was a lot of suspense in the atmosphere of the dark classroom.

Unlike the last rumble, the students now heard a distant explosion. Their chatty and cheerful tone just a few seconds ago was now gone forever.
"what the hell is happening?"
"is it the north? Are they attacking?!"
"shit really?"
The students immediately started to panic because some guy decided to mention north Korea but no one could blame them for their reactions, the threat of nuclear war would make anyone shit their pants instantly.

"what's happening!"
"fuck this shit I'm out!"
"w-wait everyone please calmdown" the teacher said but it was all too late
The students grabbed their flip phones so they could atleast get some lighting in the room and immediately made their way outside, everyone did the same thing as teachers, students, janitors, etc rushed outside as fast as they could despite them being tightly packed like tuna in the small hallway.

It was barely even 5 minutes and a small portion of the massive city was already turning into hell, no one knew what was even happening but countless people started emerging from the massive buildings like ants flowing out from their nest.
There was no signal, no electricity and no forms of communication, with this no one outside of Seoul knew what was truly happening at that moment of time.

"hah... Why am I thinking of that again" Christopher exclaimed with a dreadful face
"what were you thinking?" his assistant asked
"you know 2000?"
"What about it?" she asked with a blank tone
"the 1st gate obviously... a high ranking A rank gate, it was such a devastating day for South Korea... I almost shitted my pants when I saw it on TV as a kid... Hey... Do you know why we are called hunters?" Christopher asked out of the blue
Both of them were in a massive thick building and it was the main headquarters of the Venus guild located in New York city, despite the guild's size the workers and hunters had quite the free time, so much free time that there was at least 1 war everyday in any of the 1-100+ floors of the building, not a brutal war though, just some employees turning their workplace into a battlefield so they could have some fun with the toy guns they snuck in however it was about to get a little rough in the future because of the new gate in Florida, a new world, means more gates, means more work, so might as well shoot your Co worker in the back with a toy bow before a new load of work comes, this situation wasn't exclusive to the Venus guild though, this was happening to every major guilds around the world.

"because we hunt down monsters" she said to Christopher, without much reaction
"yeah.. yeah.. but how about no" he replied
"is this one of your woke stories again?" his assistant reacted
"there was an isolated man in south Korea, he was quite old, had no connections with any family members and he lived far away from other people... He didn't buy food from the store often since he didn't have the money, he had to hunt for food... You see what I'm getting at? "
"..." the assistant replied
"of course you do.... That man was a hunter.. Not a hunter in today's standards but a hunter regardless... But when that special day came.. Well, he was still a hunter.... A different kind of hunter, a special kind.. He was the first hunter, the first to kill a monster, the first to solo a boss, the first to clear a gate, the first to get harmed by a monster, the first hunter to get litterally lazer beamed at point blank range by a monster... I could say more but I'll end this quick since I'm ganna be quite busy soon... He died that day, naked, clothes burned, a missing arm... No one knew why he did it, maybe he realized that day he was suddenly able to do super human things, suddenly able to see the Mana flow of the world.. When that happened he perfectly saw the ominous Mana of the monster that appeared that day and went after it... Just a simple "hunter" and "prey" scenario.. For me that's why people call us hunters"
"fantastic..."
"thanks for the reaction ha..." Christopher laughed at himself
"you've already set up the candidates right? For the exchange program... I checked them a couple minutes ago, it's complete" the assistant asked with haste
"that's great, that guild master from another world I talked to.. Was quite nice" he said with a smile
"how are you so sure?" his assistant asked
"you would understand if we came together... How should I say this? He was very weak.. As a hunter of course, about D rank level and yet his servants who were full blown at S rank level highly respected him as a leader, that's also why I didn't pick experienced hunters for the list, I wanted to give him fresh recruits out of respect"
"wow... genius"
"alright you can stop making me cringe, I heard floors 34 to 40 was turned into a battlefield" Christopher said with an excited expression
"should I go stop them?"
"no, I'm not wasting the airsoft gun I baught.. Besides.. the gates appearing today are quite low, there's alot of free time for everyone"
"alright, don't burn the building down if you rage, you are the best fire mage in the US after all" the assistant replied
She wasn't new to this atmosphere, in fact she treated it like it was a normal day at the venus guild office. Despite being the person who experienced most of Christophers weird actions, she did indeed admired his thoughtfulness and leadership.
Despite her lean build, she was still considered a strong A rank hunter and she often cleared dungeons alongside Christopher and many others, perhaps that's where she witnessed her guildmasters destructive fire magic, burning everything down in seconds.
"I have to go somewhere, goodbye Christopher"
After dropping her things off, she opened a door that was a part of the large glass the showcased the city landscape. As soon as the door opened heavy winds brushed against her body nonstop. It was a long way down if you were to fall but it wasn't even made for normal humans in the first place.
"be sure to clean things up" she said as she flew off like a real superhero, though flying was a common sight in the venus guild headquarters
