Chapter 2

My head was spinning as I opened my eyes to unfamiliar surroundings.

"Where am I?" I thought as I felt the silky sheets and warm blanket, I laid on. Then it hits me of the former events of the night before. Just thinking of it, I jolt up. I was still wearing my clothes from the night before. The room I was in was dim from the curtains being closed. It was a massive room and I slipped out of bed onto the cold tile flooring. Walking over to the curtains I draw them back, I gasp at what I see. Laid before my eyes was a beautiful garden below. The light of day blinds me for a minute, as my eyes adjust. I realized I wasn't in the city anymore.

"Well look who's awake" I cold voice says behind me. The sound made me jump as I quickly turned to see who spoke. Sitting in a chair on the other side of the room was the dark man from before.

"Where am I?" I say trying to sound brave, but it comes out in a scared whisper. From the aurora around him, I knew he wasn't human and way stronger than any demon I ever saw before.

"My manor why" He says getting up and walking towards me, I take a step back and hit the wall there was nowhere to run. He brushes his hand across my face, making me shiver. "Like I said I won't let you get away that easily my little angel." Before he could say more his phone started ringing.

"You stay here" He tells me, leaving the room. Once the door closed, I scanned the room for my shoes. Seeing them on the other side of the bed, I quickly put them on. Opening the bedroom door, I checked to see if the coast was clear. It was, so I hurried off. This place seemed more like a manor than a house. Outside, I ran as fast as I could without daring to look back.

From the second floor window, the dark man watched Evangeline run.

"Get me a profile on her" he asks the man standing behind him.

"Yes sir" He says hurrying off. As the other man left the dark man could only smile. Setting a white queen chess piece right next to a black king chess piece.

"If only you could listen" He whispers to himself.

It took me a few hours to get back to my apartment. My feet were killing me as I kicked off my shoes. I took a hot shower and flopped down onto my bed, watching my ceiling fan go round and round. Somehow it felt like everything that happened wasn't real. Turning over I checked my phone, it was around 4:00 p.m. Saturday evening. I sigh.

"What am I going to do" I whisper to myself, covering my eyes with my arm.

The Next Day...

"Good luck on your interview" Rose says over the phone, as I hurry after work to a job interview. I tried dressing nice for this interview since it was for a big business corporation. I was just applying for a simple cleaning job there, because it paid more than my waitress job I have at the moment. I walk in and ask the lady at the front desk.

"Ascus me, but do you know where I should go for interviews?" I ask. The lady looks at me with disgust.

"The cleaning job guessing" She says looking me up and down, like I was some lowlife. "That would be on the second floor third office."

"Thank you" I say, hurrying off. I got to the second floor third office. Knocking on the door, a man opens it.

"Are you for the cleaning interview, because we just filled that position" He says, about ready to shut his office door, he suddenly stops. "Wait what's your name?"

"Evangeline Walker" I reply.

"Actually a secretary job just opened up, it has way better pay, would you like to apply" He says.

"Yes, I would love to," I say, getting excited at such luck. In no time the interview was done.

"Congratulations you got the job" The man says. "You can start today."

"Really so quick" I say, a little stunned.

"Yep, just sign here" He says, scooting a document over.

"Okay, let me read this first," I say, grabbing the document.

"Don't worry, the job is pretty simple" He says handing me a pen. I read the front of the document and see nothing wrong so I sign it. I was then sent to the top floor to help my new boss organize the filing cabinets. "I was finally climbing the social ladder" I thought to myself, as I walked down the clean organized hallways. My new work ID dangling from my blouse. I knock on the door of my boss's office.

"Come in" I hear someone reply. So I step in. "Are you my new secretary?"

"Yes sir" I reply. My boss's chair was facing the glass panels that looked out to the city below so I couldn't see him, but somehow he seemed familiar.

"Close the door and come here," He says.

"O-okay" I stutter, closing the door behind me and walking up to his desk. I stand there nervous as he turns around to face me. I stare in horror as he turns around to face me. It was the dark man from earlier.

"It's you" I gasp, stepping back.

"My name is Kage Moreau," Kage says smiling, as he gets up. He walks over to me. I just froze, not really knowing what to say or do. Then it hit me.

"I'm quitting" I say.

"No, that's not how it works miss Evangeline" He says smiling more.

"What, I read the application" I say. "And it says I can quit at any time."

"Well you can't quit this job" He says, pulling out my application and turning it around to show the back. "See the little words right here on the back it says with your bosses permission you can be excused."

"That's impossible" I say grabbing the papers, but it was true. "You planned this didn't you" I say anger coming over me. I couldn't help it as tears dripped down my face.

"You played me" I say, staring at the floor. Looking up I stare Kage right in his red eyes. "I won't give in to your games you selfish demon."

"Well challenge accepted then, you fragile angel" Kage says.

"Why do you call me an angel?" I ask.

"Why do you call me a demon?" Kage asks.

"Because I can see your wings you idiot" I reply.

"That's impossible" He says looking at his big black wings. "Humans can't see them, but yet again you don't seem human, so what are you?"

"To be honest I don't know" I say. Looking down at my feet. When I looked back up, Kage was right next to my face.

"Well it looks like I got to find out" Kage whispers into my ear. "Don't I."
