780Chapter 102: DaughterNiece, GET!
I have returned!
For now.
The ideas for this have been coming slower, so I had the giga brain idea to start rewriting my first fic, because that's so different from this, that by the time I'm done, I should be sort of fresh... Which I dunno if it actually helps, but eh, I'll see what happens.
For anyone that doesn't know, my first fic was two bestfriend F!OC's, that both died on earth, one from a plane crash, the other of old age decades after the former died. The first one asks to look like Erza, but have Lightning Dragon Slayer powers, dragon transformation included, while the other looks like Irene, and goes for affinities to all types of magic.
They end up getting reborn into DxD, With the names Tara and Martha, but neither of them know anything about it. At one point, they meet a younger Rias, and end up friends, but not Peerage no point will they be Peerage members of Rias or another devil.
It's also a X-Over with Persona 5.
I made a bunch of mistakes with that story, the pacing was trash, I structured conversation horribly, and I skipped development, both character and ability wise. I like to think I handled the story well, especially the P5 parts, but that's just me being biased. So, going back to make it better might be nice.
Anyway, I'll be posting all the chapters I've finished, they'll be coming out one a day till they're all out, which isn't as many as I'd like, and then start working on 'A Dragon's Family' again. You'll be getting just a bit over 80k words by the last updated chapter, so yay.

Butternote - Well, there'll be a glimpse into the Potterverse for a chapter, but it's mostly a set up if I ever want to write a HP fic. And thanks for saying this is in your top 10.
Ash - I thought about doing that, but that'd just seem repetitive, so I decided on something else.
Guest - No.
Kit - Yup. Just leaving a world like Worm, with newly awakened people to Yin, is the biggest troll I could think of.
Wently - Thanks.

Rinin - Yes. Which is one of the reasons it drains him so fast.
Guest - Vacationing in One Piece would be fun, yeah, but I've already decided they'll be going to Monster Hunter so they can relax in nature and shit.
Guest - I was tempted to add Garda to the Harem, I really was, but that'd be too many, and I feel like I'd just try to make another concession down the line. That, and I kinda want her to get with Archer, two hyper dedicated people like them, both willing to die for what they believed in, that'd seem interesting.
YN -Getting a diminished reward makes sense.
Sd - While getting something from the main body sounds sensible, it wouldn't work given the fact they were the same species, just specialized differently. There are exceptions to that, Rathalos/ian, but the Thinker and Warrior aren't different enough for Fenrir to proc. I like the idea though.
Syneb - Adopting Contessa is a highly amusing thought, and I'll probably make an Omake about it eventually. And Yin didn't revive Annette yet because she didn't want the world to hound her into trying to revive any/everyone else that died unless she wanted too. Annette does come back later though, since the world's going to be too busy with the whole 'everyone in the US/Canada/Mexico/South America, and a few others in the world, have aura now', thing.
Wently - Thanks again.
{Maccillian's POV, 15 minutes later.}
After leaving Yin high and dry in a world that was now at least 35-45% full of newly super powered people, I was on cloud 9. It was the best prank I think I would ever do so far. Probably the best I'd ever do in a few years too, but I'd find some way to out do myself.
That aside, I looked around the city atop the crane I was laying on, because if Homura could do it and be all dramatic like, then I could too. Though, I wasn't alone, since I was curled around my daughters, who were all petting me to my approval. Himiko and Lili had wanted to head off with their mothers, who had also split off to go after their objectives, but changed their minds when I Shifted, Shizuka went after Mami, Saeko and Saya had gone after Witches to bring back to Hestia, while Rika was somewhere above the clouds, marking any and every body of the Incubator she found so she could prepare to put a hole through their body, while Hestia was with Hope in an aura constructed bell tower, seeing a pure white structure like that from atop the crane was weird, setting up an alter in order to fix everyone in the country. Granted, if she just used her semblance, she could do just that. But Athena had another idea, that by using her full power, she could probably fix whatever the hell the Incubator did to their souls, by purely flexing her godly might. It was what she wanted to try, so she was. (Besides, there probably won't be any harm with the attempt. Sure, it'll scare the shit out of everyone for a few seconds, but when they realize that no, the golden fire and giant Hearth ISN'T a sign of the end of days, then they'll be fine. Though, I wonder if it'll work or not...)
~Most likely.~ It said something that I didn't react to the sudden interjection of my sister. ~On the off chance that it does not work, then the only thing that will happen is everyone is confused, but healthier then they have ever been.~ I did snort at that though, because the thought of people just looking at each other, thinking they're out of their fucking minds, amuses the fuck out of me. ~Yes, it also amuses me greatly.~ It filled me with joy that Hope was just as bad as I was. ~I love you too big brother.~ I snorted at that, and felt Hope send me amusement from her end before receding from my mind. I wasn't really bothered by the fact she could read my surface and inner thoughts at any moment, it was just something that happened now, and I accepted it.
Though, the sudden one sided reactions seemed to get my daughters, since Eri was looking at me curiously, Sunny was too but I didn't count him, Himiko had her usual smirk on her face, and while I recognized the fact it sort of looked like mine, there were still differences in the fact she made her fangs had extra attention. Missy looked a little confused, while Lili was the only one not as bothered by it. "You know, Papa." I flicked an ear, so the former Pallum currently on my back knew that I was paying attention. "Lili sometimes feels like you've corrupted an innocent soul when we see you have a one sided conversation, and think 'eh, that's normal.'" That got another snort out of me, and my first daughter gently dug her fingers into one of the sweet spots by my ears. "What do you have to say about that, huh?" I stared at my 'oldest', and felt my tail twitch. Now, I knew there was a right answer, but I also knew there was a wrong answer.
So I obviously went headfirst into the wrong answer territory. 'Innocent? You?' By the way she pinched my ear, I knew just how much she disliked that answer. (Note to self, don't inform any of my daughters that my END makes me just not feel this.) The feeling of amusement that was most likely patented by my angelic sister, flowed into my mind, and I paused for a moment... Which only went on as all four of my daughters blinked, and gained mischievous glints in their eyes. (The fuck? Even Eri?!) My sister's amusement spiked, and I knew that there would be retribution for this! (Mark this day, Hope, for you shall rue it!) The trill of laughter that went through my mind only reinforced my desire to get even with her.
~May the odds be in your favor dear brother, for they will be in mine, even if they don't want to be.~ Despite the fact all of my daughters were doing whatever the hell they wanted with my wolf self, I ignored them and just blinked at that blatant reference, and admission to manipulation.
(Son of a bitch...) I didn't know how I was going to get back at the precog to end all precogs, but by gods was I was gonna do it! Eventually... Somehow... I ignored the 'scratches' from Himiko, which would've been stabs to anyone that wasn't me, and internally sighed. (Whatever.) Taking in my kids 'affections', I sent a thought to Hope. (How're the others doing?)
Her reply was instantaneous, but also filled with amusement. ~Well... Shizuka has invaded a school... And she seems to be throwing it into chaos.~
I thought that over for a second, then blinked. (What?)
{Shizuka's POV a few minutes earlier.}
Running across roofs was fun, it probably always would be, but that would maybe be up for debate in a few years or decades... Maybe centuries if I didn't run on some roofs for a while. (Hmm... Should I run on the roof back home?) I remembered Silver liked running on roofs back when it was just us and Rika. Sure, it had been for exercising, but it was still something he liked to do... (Hmm... I'll come back to this... As long as I remember that is.) I was probably going to forget about it since I was about to pick up a new daughter.
Thinking about her, I couldn't help but be just a tad bit curious about not just her, but what else I'd find when I got to their school, which I would be at in a few minutes unless I sped up. (The cat should be there too... Hmm...) My first response when I thought of seeing the monster was to smash it into a million itty bitty pieces. (Though, if I did that, the school would be destroyed, and there'd be too many hurt children to make it a good idea.) So, knowing that, I thought about my other options. Either ignore the hell spawn, or entrap it and play whack a mole with it while one of its bodies was in an aura sphere. I liked that one.
I liked it a lot.
So, when I got there, I was going to do that one, and have fun introducing the little monster to Boomstick.
Anyway, that thought aside, I saw how close I was to the school, and stopped to perch on the ledge of the building I was on. It was bigger then what the show had shown, and a lot more detailed. It was actually a bit better then U.A in my opinion, mostly because it was pretty. (Hmm... What if we could make U.A prettier? That could be fun.) It was a thought... And one I really wanted to do... Shaking that thought off, I looked around, and wondered what to do. I could easily shift back and enter the grounds, because going on them in my Arctic Wolf form was just silly, or I could do it anyway just because. Hmm...
I tilted my head over and over again as I thought about it, then shrugged. (Hope, human or wolf?)
The mental presence of my sister in law gently crept into my mind, and I waited on her answer. ~While it would be highly amusing to observe you enter as a wolf, I would like to remind you that these are children.~ I blinked at that, and nodded, because she had a point. So, hopping off the ledge I was on, I landed, and shifted back into my human form. That done, I began walking towards the school, and started humming as I did. ~Anything else?~
Thinking on it, I shook my head. (No. Thank you Hope.)
~You're welcome Shizuka. Have fun picking up my new niece, who is currently here.~ I grinned at that, she had basically given me Mami's location, she was currently in class so and now that I knew just where that was, I'd be spared a bunch of time. Sending a 'I will' at her, I felt her presence recede from my mind, but staying just at the corner just in case I needed her. She was good people.
Though, as I walked onto the grounds, I couldn't help but feel like I forgot about something.
{2 minutes later}
Walking into the building, I kept humming to myself, not entirely paying attention to my surroundings. In this world, I knew there weren't any real threats to any of us, maybe to Eri and Sunny, but they were with Silver, and NOTHING could or would get passed him, so they were safe. Though, that didn't mean I was completely ignorant of my surroundings. So when a gasp from my left entered my ears, I turned a curious eye over to the source, and blinked when I saw the nearest staff member, a security guard, look at me like I wasn't real. I didn't understand why, but when I noticed his eyes locked onto my ears and tail, I realized what it was... And I felt silly for forgetting the fact I had a tail and wolf ears.
In my defense, I don't really think about them anymore, they were a part of me, and they were just as natural as breathing to me. But this guard, and that staff lady in the corner of my eye, weren't me... So... I just pretended nothing was wrong, and walked into the main office, completely ignoring any and everyone else that was staring at me. "Hellooo, I'm here to see a family member of mine. Can someone call her down, or can I just get a visitor's pass?"
Given the way the staff were gaping at me, I wasn't sure how long either of those options would take... (I wonder if threatening them would speed it up?) The melodic peel of laughter that went off in my mind gave me the impression that that was probably the right answer.
{Mami's POV, 5 minutes later}
I wasn't entirely paying attention to today's lesson, which was admittingly a bad thing to do in normal circumstances. It was probably a good thing that this wasn't exactly a normal circumstance. (Akemi Homura.) I frowned a bit at the thought of the mysterious Magical Girl who'd entered my territory. I had no information on who she was, what her power was, nor how she came to be. Kyubey didn't remember contracting with her, and that was stressing. (Just who is she?) I didn't know, and I NEEDED to know.
It was while I was thinking on that, when the class suddenly went silent, which clued me into the fact SOMETHING was happening. So, tearing myself from my thoughts, I tuned back into reality and loo... I blinked, and met the gaze of a woman that looked similar to my mother. That simple thought froze me for a few moments, but I managed to pull through and note the differences between my mother and the woman standing outside of my classroom. If I were to discount her height, bust, longer hair, and fashion sense... Along with the extra dog like appendages... Couldn't forget those, then she would almost be similar enough to my mother to be some kind of aunt or a similar relation.
The woman and I stared at each other for a few moments, then she broke into a massive grin as she entered the classroom, ignored the teacher, and happily walked over to me. As she was, I had to fight back my instincts to not activate my Soul Gem, and arm myself against the unfamiliar woman that clearly had inhuman features, which I could tell were very real, and very worrying, considering we were in a room full of innocents, and I would be unable to truly fight back without catching students in the clash.
Wearily, I watched as the unknown woman stopped in front of my desk, and gave me a massive smile... Before hugging me? I was shocked not only at the speed of which she pulled me in, but at the fact I'd suddenly found my face pressed against her chest/stomach. (What?)
I didn't have the opportunity to think much else, since the woman spoke for the first time. "You're mine now." What? "Ou!" She stopped hugging me, and brought me back so she could look me in the eyes. Seeing the joy, amusement, and affection in her eyes made me freeze again. "We're going for ice cream now, let's gooo!" I had no chance then, since the woman wrapped her tail around my bag, quickly grabbed and picked me up, then began to RUN. It took everything in me to not start screaming as I was brought along for a terrifying ride. One I couldn't fight against without exposing myself, and the existence of Magical Girls. So, I allowed this to happen, while a part of me was interested in finding out just where this development would lead.
Running through the school, while I was being dragged along, which wasn't as uncomfortable as it would've sounded for some reason, the woman whose name I didn't know seemed to be enjoying herself with the mayhem that was following in her wake. If I wasn't involved in said mayhem, I would've found the whole thing amusing, but considering I was, I had to admit that I was a tad bit worried. (Thankfully, she has no ill intentions... Yet...) Looking towards her, I internally readied myself in the event I would have to defend myself. I was unsure if it was needed, but if it was, I would ensure this did not happen again.
I was brought out of my thoughts again, when the woman suddenly paused, and blinked. "I need music!" I was a hairs breath away from thinking 'what' again, but stopped myself, and just allowed the mystery woman to continue her mayhem. "Focus, SHUFFLE!" The earring on one of her dog ears, which was an interesting sight, beeped, and suddenly, music flooded the corridor. Hearing it, she squealed, and her tail wagged about at speeds I didn't know tails could go. "I love this song!" And with that, she somehow managed to put me on her back, in a piggyback like I was a child, the majority of my mind that missed my parents was getting too close to the surface for my liking so I did my best to keep myself calm, and started skipping along faster then humanly possible as she began to sing.
{Homura's POV a minute or two later.}
Something was wrong. I knew it, but I didn't know the cause or source.
This loop had begun just as the others had, and aside from my earlier warning to Madoka, things seemed to be going to plan.
The keyword there being 'seemed.' It had been after first period when the news of a sudden structure appearing out of thin air. A pure white bell tower had sprung up out of nowhere, and that had unsettled me a bit, Never had something like that happened, and given by the somewhat wary reaction of the Incubator, I understood that it wasn't the source of that phenomenon. (So where did it come from? Who is behind it?) I didn't know, but when I had an opportunity, I would find o...-
The sound of music and singing filled my ears, and everyone in the classroom, including the Incubator, turned towards the source. That's how I saw another impossibility. Some woman was carrying Mami Tomoe on her back. That alone would've been strange, but the resemblance, even if it wasn't a full one, had me freeze. I knew Mami's parents were gone, she had no close family either... (So where did this woman come from?) That was one of my most predominant thoughts, while another was focused on her extra appendages. I'd seen some animal like Witches before, but what I had seen was not some kind of Witch, unless they suddenly gained the ability to retain human form aside from having said appendages, so this was another thing that I had no knowledge of...
And I didn't like that.
Too much was changing too quickly, so since everyone's attention was on the woman, who had already skipped passed our classroom, I made it known that I was going to the restroom. My leave was noted by the shocked teacher, as well as the Incubator, but neither mattered at the moment. There were unknown elements in play now, and I needed information in order to plan accordingly.
As soon as I was out of sight, I activated my Soul Gem, and stopped time the moment I could. With that done, I made my way towards the woman and Tomoe, and took the former in. She was tall, that was a simple observation, I had already noted her inhuman appendages, which had to be real given the way her tail was easily holding Tomoe's possessions, so I decided to rummage through her pants pockets to find some identification.
Annoyingly, after a few moments of doing that, I found none, and was baffled at that. Her pockets were empty, not even a single yen in any of them. That brought out another issue, because there were no signs of a phone, I had to wonder just where the music was coming from. Taking a few minutes to think on this, my focus found itself on her accessory. Said accessory was a golden wolf with glowing silver and black eyes, and if the thought that the process of elimination worked on whoever she was, was somehow capable of producing music. (How? It looks nothing like any kind of technology I've seen, it's more of an ornament if anything, so how is it able to function as a music player?) I didn't know, and without any information on what she was capable off, I wasn't going to attempt to find out...
Looking away from that, I looked at the expression on Tomoe's face, and noticed that despite the obvious confusion, there was a smile on her face. Taking a moment to think, I hummed, and decided to follow them for a bit, just to see what I would discover.
So, making my way towards the exit, I positioned myself outside of the school, and jumped up towards the nearest roof. With a proper vantage point, I settled down, and unfroze time.
Time resumed, and I begun a mental timer for when I would need to return to class without having problems arise. "-~somtimes all I think about is yooou! Late ni...~-" The singing suddenly stopped, but the music went on. I was curious as to why she stopped, but considering I was outside, I couldn't see the woman's expression.
It didn't seem to matter, considering a minute later, the woman and Tomoe left the building. The moment they did, the woman looked around for a moment, before turning to look up at me. Shocked that she noticed me, I stopped time, and moved to reposition myself outside her line of sight. When I did so, and still had her in my sights, I unfroze time, and watched her reaction. The woman blinked, and began looking around for a bit, much to Tomoe's confusion, then shrugged as she went back to skipping along with a song on her lips. "~Heatwaves been faking me out.~"
Watching her go, I kept the fact she noticed me in mind, and slowly followed her. I was going to get to the bottom of these anomalies, one way or the other.
{Shizuka's POV}
Keeping the time traveler in my range, I internally hummed and thought about what to do with her. (I cooould take her with me, probably show her to Silver and see what would happen... Or I could just let her follow me.) The first one was practical, the second was for my amusement... So I obviously decided for the second option, because fun.
That decided, I kept going, and decided to follow my nose towards wherever the closest ice cream parlor was. I DID want ice cream, and getting some for my new daughter would be killing two birds with one grenade. ~... Why a grenade?~
I didn't know why she sounded so confused. (Because a grenade is just a big stone that explodes.) There was silence on her end, but I felt the exasperation... And she retreated from my mind, so I took that as a win in my books.
{Maccillian's POV}
Hearing the fact that Shizuka had just waltzed into a school, yoinked our new daughter before waltzing right back out, which was giving me a sense of deja vu, had me chuckling to myself, which came out as a few scruffy barks since I was still a Gray Wolf. My daughters didn't seem that amused though, and after a 'request' from Lili to fill them in on why I was laughing, I told them. [Your mother has just pulled a me, and yoinked your new sister. Granted, it wasn't as good as mine from what I'm hearing, but still a me none the less.] Since Eri and Missy couldn't understand barks, since neither had earned the bite yet, I'd had to add them to the party. I didn't really mind that I had to do that, it was basically whatever.
Anyway, Himiko was cackling at her mom's antics, Lili was trying not to laugh out loud, Eri was giggling, and Missy was torn between laughing, and gaping. It was an amusing sight. Sunny was just doing Sunny things, which was mostly just padding my fur with his little paws and claws, I wasn't sure what he was doing it for but couldn't exactly ask since he wasn't capable of coherent thoughts yet.
Getting out of her stupor, Missy looked ready to say something, but an errant thought from my sister made her pause. ~'A grenade is just a stone that explodes' Brother, I think I experienced an error because of sister Shizuka.~
We all, aside from Eri who probably didn't get that broadcast, took a moment take that in before responding. ~Lili sees nothing wrong with Best Mama's logic. Nothing wrong at all.~
With the words of my eldest out there, her sister followed suit. ~I mean, dats mama Shizuka. I take halfa the things she says with gallons a salt.~ That got her some looks, because honestly, a gallon? For a second, I wanted to question if she was that eccentric, but then I remembered that this was Shizuka we were talking about, and remembered that one time I played 'dead' after eating some chocolate pudding, and her half hour long reaction to that.
Moving on, Missy didn't seem to know what to say here, but Eri did. ~Mama has the best logic. That's what mom said at least.~ I could feel the urge to question her from Hope, but she seemed to come to the decision that Rika's words didn't make this any better.
So, instead of following this conversation, she changed tracks. ~Anyway, Kiriko and Rei have found Kyouko. She seems to have just finished a Labyrinth.~ That was interesting. I knew the whole 'backtrack from the church she lived at' idea would work, a Werewolf's sense of smell was ridiculous when it was put to proper use, I just didn't expect it to happen so quickly considering this was an entire city full of people.
[Cool. Keep us posted on how that goes.] I knew that Kiriko and Rei were going to manage to convince the girl to come along, because Kiriko was too stubborn to accept anything else, and Rei because she was too sociable and nice for someone to turn down without feeling a little bad.
~Aye aye brother!~
{Kyoko's POV}
"Stupid fucking Familiar, the hells up with today?" I was kinda pissed at the fact I wasted my time with a shitty mob like that when I could've been putting down a Witch. The Familiar wasn't even near full evolution so I couldn't camp it for a day or two for it to go Witch. Annoyed, I kicked the nearest garbage can, because this damn alleyway had too many of them for some god damn reason, and kept making my way towards the exit.
I was maybe a bit longer till I was out, when I heard something that made me stop. "Hey hey hey!" That came from above me, and it was only my instincts as a Magical Girl that let me react in time.
Flipping back, I managed to see a spear crash into the ground, followed by someone landing on the butt of it. When I was upright again, I took in the bitch that decided to attack me... And blinked when I saw her... The first thought in my mind was 'Is that a gimp suit?' While the next was 'Are those dog ears?' I didn't know what I was looking at, and that normally would've cost me. Thankfully, this wasn't a normal situation, since the woman that balanced on her spear hopped off of it, and picked it up as she started spinning in it in a way I KNEW was just for dramatics. Seeing that made me activate my Soul Gem, and bring out my own spear. The woman smiled at that, and stopped spinning her spear, giving me a look that was both challenging, and appraising.
I didn't like either of those though. "Who the hell are you?! What the hell are you?!"
The bitch, I'd probably think of her like that for a bit because of the whole dog ears and tail thing, grinned at me, and shifted her weight a bit to be ready to strike. "I'm Rei Miyamoto. Heroine extraordinaire, protector of the small and innocent, and...-" Yeah, I wasn't in the mood for this. I lunged forwards, aiming a thrust at her leg to start off and limit her mobility, but the bitch was faster then I expected, and spun on her heel while her spear found itself speeding towards my wrist. I had to react, so I tried to move the shaft of my spear to block her jab, and just barely managed that. Though, the force behind it sent me back down the alleyway. My arms shook for a second, but I forced them to stop, then looked at the bitch. She still had a grin on her face, but her tail was slowly wagging around, which didn't seem good. She even looked a bit annoyed too. "You know, it's rude to interrupt someone when they're talking."
I didn't bother keeping myself from scoffing. "Some would say dropping in on somebody spear first would be attempted murder."
The bitch had the audacity to laugh as she spun her spear, which made me tense and get ready to react when she made her move. "Guess you could say I made an impact huh?"
I paused, and just STARED at her. (What in the hell?) Looking at her, I could plainly see the anticipation in her eyes, which made me reach a weird conclusion. "Was that... Was that supposed to be a joke?" I honestly didn't know, that's how shit it was.
My response probably wasn't what she was going for, since she blinked back, looked a tiny bit sad, then shrugged a moment later. "Well, yeah." I blinked at her again, and just couldn't help myself. I gaped at her, and she had the nerve to look sheepish. She even stopped twirling her spear, which helped me get a look at the cobalt colored mechanical weapon. "It wasn't that bad... Was it?"
(Oh god, she's serious!) That needed an immediate answer. "YES!" The way she deflated made me feel both bad, and a slight bit vindictive... Which was weird as hell to me... I shook my head at that, and decided to refocus on the fact that we were supposed to be fighting. "Ugh! Shut up and fight!" That did it. The bitch rolled her eyes, adjusted her stance, then kicked off the ground as she rushed towards me. This one wasn't as fast as her reaction, so I had the time to see her coming, and react.
I waited for her to get in range, and the moment she did, I vaulted over her, and was was about to make my spear segment itself when an arm shot out and grasped my ankle. I only had a second to recognize that before I was brought back down to the ground, and slammed into it. I could feel my ears ringing, but I knew I had to MOVE. So I moved.
Rolling to the side, I ended up avoiding being skewered, and decided to try range. Segmenting my spear, I shot the tip out towards the bitch, who stood there and watched it come after her. When it was in striking distance, I made it split into four, and strike out at their highest speed. That interested her, because she clearly wasn't having any trouble avoiding the tips. Though, while she was dodging, she had the audacity to speak. "This is cool and all," I was going to strangle her. "But I was looking forward to a Sojutsu spar." Huh?
My tips stopped striking out at her, and the words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them. "I don't know Sojutsu."
The instant I said that, the bitch's entire posture went rigid, and she practically turned into a statue. Even her tail was frozen. I didn't know what to do here, since yeah, she attacked me out of nowhere and gave me a killer headache, while on the other hand she seemed real hung up on this Sojutsu spar. After a minute, where neither of us had moved, and my headache had cleared, she moved. Her spear was gently planted into the ground, and she closed her eyes as she tilted her head up. "That's sooo bullshit... Ughhh..." A few seconds later, she opened her eyes, and turned to one of the nearby roofs. "Mooom!" What?
I didn't get a chance to process who she'd called out for since a beat later, a large orange furred wolf dropped into the alleyway, with a familiar white creature in its jaws. "Kyubey!" The magical mascot didn't respond to my call, and just remained hanging limp in the wolf's jaws. That got both of them to look at me though, and I watched as the wolf turned into a grown woman... And understood that those weren't dog ears or tails. (Oh I'm so screwed, aren't I?)
After having that thought, the woman spat out Kyubey, I noticed a bit of his throat was gone, and gave me a look as she chewed on it. I looked back, because taking my eyes off the literal pair of Werewolves in front of me would be suicide, so I saw the way she stopped chewing and looked like she sucked on a lemon. Spitting out the bit of Kyubey, she ran her tongue on her fangs, then hummed. "Fun fact, that cat tastes like candy... Just an explosion of sweet..." She paused, and her face scrunched up even more. "Oh fuck, there's an aftertaste." I didn't think that either of those was a fun fact. "Ugh, anyway, this whole meeting is going to shit, so imma just skip whatever steps we had. The name's Kiriko Miyamoto, and I'm going to adopt you."
I was already frozen, but that just made it worse. I could practically feel my heart skip a beat as that weird as hell statement, because it WAS a statement, reached me. I missed my family, that was as simple as saying the sky was blue, but having someone just SAY they were adopting me made me both happy, and pissed. Who the hell did this bitch think she was? I clenched my teeth, and was about to lunge at her, but a look from her made me stop. "Don't get it twisted, I don't give a shit if you don't call me mom or anything," Wait, what? "I will still treat you like my daughter because I've decided it. You're coming home with us, getting clothed and fed by us, and with at least 5 cooks in the family you'll be eating good, and fighting with us. I'll teach you Sojutsu, how to beat the shit out of Werewolves and dragons, and anything else. You'll be cared for, and I will gladly fight for you. We're giving you a home, a big ass extended family, and a chance at a real life. You have no other option because it'd be fucking stupid to say no, and I'm pretty sure you aren't stupid. If you've got a problem with this, get up, and say it." Even after she was done talking, I didn't know what to do. That whole offer was so far out of left field, it might as well have come from another continent!
But I still had to think about it. (Food? With that cook comment, check. Place to stay, most likely, so check. Learning how to REALLY fight, instead of learning through trial and error? I'll take that. Fighting Werewolves, dra...-) I blinked, and rewound to that part. (Dragons?) Now, as a literal Magical Girl, I didn't think I had any footing to stand on for this, but... "Dragons?"
Hearing my question, both women grinned, but it was the daughter that spoke up. Her tail was wagging around like an actual happy dog, and even her ears fwipped a bit. "Yeah, my Uncle Za, not related but still totally family, can turn into dragons! We have these training sessions where he'll be a MASSIVE two headed or three headed dragon, and we have to fight him as a group. There was this one time Takashi, my boyfriend, slammed his bat into Uncle Za's horns so hard, that one of them broke, and Uncle Za made a Takashi sized hole in the Training Ground walls for it. Takashi kept the horn though, and it annoys Uncle Za whenever Takashi brings it up." My brain didn't seem to be working, because I swear that was one of the most ridiculous stories I'd ever heard.
It apparently wasn't over though, because the mom decided to add her own two cents. "Eh, Millie's just a bitch when it comes to being reminded that we can embarrass him." Millie? It was a sign that I was probably losing it, because the mom gave me a look. So that was probably out loud. "Imma save that for a surprise." Oh, ok... "Anyway, you know what we want, you know what you'll get. Do you have ANY problems here?" Now that got me thinking.
(Do I?) I knew what she was offering, I even knew the out she was giving me. It was that out that I was really hung up on though. (Family...) I had a family before, and that turned out horribly. I didn't know if I could handle another implosion like before. (But would that happen?) I was being offered a family from a pair of Werewolves, and if that wasn't crazy enough, there was a dragon involved. A Magical Girl didn't seem that big of a deal when I thought about it. (Do I give them the chance?) I didn't know. I didn't know if I could open up just for something to make me vulnerable. (But I want it.) Living on the streets was tiring. Stealing food was getting tiring. Having only one real outfit was so pitiable. Fighting just to survive for another week or month, only for some Witch to get lucky, just didn't stand out to me. It all came down to how much I wanted this. And given the fact I didn't really have a choice, I knew what my answer would be. (I want it.)
With that thought, I started getting up, staring back at both women in front of me, and answered them. "I'm in."
High above the clouds, the solitary figure of Rika lay against her aura platform, looking down on the city. No one would've been able to see her as she was hidden from the world. All they would've seen would be the hundreds of glistening purple bullets slowly spinning as she surveyed her surroundings.
She'd been there ever since setting out to complete her task, and after fifteen minutes, she'd marked any and all targets she'd seen. And after taking a breath, she spoke to the wind, her mana being coaxed into action.
"Fly, and let the winds seek our prey.
Fly, and let the winds make our strike ring true.
Fly, and deliver unto us our query.
Fly, Zephyr!"
With that, hundreds of aura bullets shot through the air, without a sound.
[Omake - Oh... Oh. Mami's POV 15 minutes later.]
I didn't think it was possible for my life to be upended within an hour, but this woman had done it. We were currently sitting on a ledge atop some roof, happily enjoying ice cream, and just relaxing. As a honor student, I hadn't thought of leaving classes to do something like this, which was probably one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. And, now that we were relaxing, it helped me get my thoughts under my control.
And that led to me thinking over the situation. I hadn't spent much time with miss Marikawa, but from the time I had been with her had given me an interesting look into who she was as a person. I was finding it increasingly difficult to find faults in her, and was getting more and more comfortable with her cheerful disposition. Granted, her aloofness was strange, it seemed as if she was entirely certain she could just walk in, take ice cream, and leave without a single problem arising. It was strange, and something I made note of to ask about at a later date.
That aside, we were just eating ice cream, and looking over the city, I was looking at the bell tower that had suddenly sprang into existence, when I had a thought. (Perhaps she knows about that?) Thinking it over, I decided to ask her. "Marikawa-san?" Her ear flicked, and she turned to slightly tilt her head at me. I got the message, band went on. "What exactly is that?"
I had pointed to the structure, and listened to her hum as she turned to look at it. Given by the flicker of recognition in her eyes, I was pretty sure I was correct. "That's Hope's doing. Her and Hestia are doing a thing." That... Wasn't exactly helpful. I had no clue who exactly these 'Hope' or 'Hestia' were. I was about to say that, but she continued, as if reading my mind. "Hope's my sister in law, well, she's GOING to be my sister in law when Silver proposes." That sounded both interesting, and beautiful considering the way her entire demeanor softened when she said 'Silver', another thing to bring up later. "Hestia's going to see if she can fix everything. Hope and Saya think it'll work, I hope it does." What?
"Fix everything? What is she going to fix? Why does she need a bell tower to do it?" There was no higher thought as I blurted out those questions, and I was sure it would lead to me blundering.
When Marikawa-san hummed, and gave me a look, which we both held for an unknown amount of time, I felt worried. But then she answered. "We think she can turn Witches back into Magical Girls." I was entirely sure I passed out the next moment.
