Sitting and leaning on the oak we talked for the rest of the day, Elisa and I. She explained to me the reasons for their fight. It looked silly at first, but looking in depth you could see why the anger. We walked together until we got to the coffee shop.
"Here is my stop," Elisa suddenly halts. "I got the night shift today," She explained.
"Who drinks coffee at night?" I asked, lifting an eyebrow.
"People who like to put rum into their coffee" she said without missing a beat.
"Well…. goodbye" I waved, I'm just happy that she is not crying anymore.
"Before you go, could you do me a favour?" Elisa asked.
"What is it?" I waited for her answer.
"Could you talk with Mery?" She was looking into my eyes, her eyebrows sitting quietly in her forehead, she was serius. I understood what she meant.
"I will do what I can" I said, and we parted our ways.
I didn't know what I could do, I don't know Mery, I found it complicated how to start a chat with her.
In my thinking I ended up reaching a park. All trees except for some winter trees didn't have any leaves. The gravel path followed the front of the gate, on its side, sad, rusty and crooked lamp posts. The night devoured the last light left, and with lampposts on, I kept on walking, introducing myself into the park. Fresh cold air filled my lungs, the soft caress of the breeze felt nice on my face, moving my whiskers.
All the noise from the town faded away, you could now hear nothing but the movement of the branches by the wind, when I travelled enough, I sat down on a bench. I lit a cigarette and took some drags, looking at the night sky with its twinkling star I felt at peace. I wanted that moment to last forever, but I felt a gaze lurking over.
Sitting some benches away was Mery, her face looked clouded. I gave her a wave. She didn't respond. I took another drag and stood up, I walked up to her in a friendly manner.
"Why are you here, so lonely, with the winter cold biting your ass" I asked while offering her a smoke.
"I could ask you the same thing" She replied with a smirk as she took a cigarette.
"That is true, but I did ask first. '' I sat beside her after lighting her cigarette.
She took some puffs while looking at nothing in particular. A moment of silence passed before she spoke again.
"I don't know why people get angry for stupids reasons," Mery told me without breaking a look into the nothingness.
"There are a lot of idiots, but, is a little inconsiderate to label them as such before asking their reasons", I took a sip of my bronze flask.
"Elisa," She whispered, looking at my flask.
"Elisa what?" I pressed further. I offered her a sip.
"Elisa got angry with me for a stupid character which I didnt like" She told me while declining wth her hand.
"How so?" I kept asking.
"There is this book, where two girls met in a library, and I just don't like one of the girls, nothing more, I don't understand" She was frustrated as she told me this.
"Why don't you like the character?" I stretched myself on the bench.
"Why does it matter?" She looked into my eyes. Her green eyes were swollen, she was crying.
"Sometimes, people get attached or they represent themselves or others, with made up characters, that's why the best character is the one which people can feel represented with." I replied, I didn't know If that was true, but it didn't sound false.
"I don't like her way of dressing or her way of talking, I just don't like her in general, I can't pinpoint each thing." Her voice went loud, it was obvious she hated that character.
"I see….. Why does Elisa like the character?" I asked while looking into the void between the stars.
"She thinks she is the best, she loves everything about her, I don't get it…..How do you know it was Elisa?" In a swing, she went from rambling into a silent questioning glance.
"A gut feeling?" Not a complete lie, I have a gut feeling about something.
"Well whatever, it is over now" She crossed her arms and sitted with puffed cheeks, she looked like a little girl.
"May I ask you a question?" I asked her, taking a serious preposition.
"You already have asked me enough, why stop now?" She turned around her body to face me. She was wearing a white hoodie with black jeans and some type of white tennis.
"Do you maybe feel represented by this character?" I kept on going.
"eh?...Elisa told me I looked like her" Taken by surprise, she responded.
"Looked?" I mumbled while lifting an eyebrow.
"You know, like, we have some things in common, but nothing…" She started to look puzzled.
"May I ask you another question?" I looked into her deep green eyes, with her red hair flowing with the wind.
"Go ahead, but make it quick, I hadn got the best day you know" She was irritated.
"Do you hate yourself?".
