Chapter 12: Control

THIRD PERSON POV

“You look bothered… what’s it about?” Gregory asked her sister who were playing her games, her brows furrowed and her expression frustrated. “I’m playing a game what do you think…” Artea snapped at Greg which made the boy confused with the sudden attitude after all they were siblings. Greg always kept tabs on his older sister noting down her mood swings, emotions, hobbies, and ticks.

‘Maybe it’s stress?’ He concluded but still he wasn’t satisfied with his conclusion but so he tried pushing his luck. “You played that game before and why would you be SO frustrated by it?” He sat down beside her sister grabbed the second controller and selected player 2.

“We…” she paused for a bit and continued “If you know someone who is in a bad place would you help them?”, taken aback by the question he looked ta his sister who had her eyes focused on the screen but her mind far away. He pondered on his answer, “If there are no heavy consequences sure… I mean what would you lose…” it was a bit vague but Artea got kept that in mind.

What would I lose?

… Everything…

Chills ran down her spine, and her eyes widened slightly as she looked at his brother, who was completely focused on the screen. She tried to brush it off, but her veins became hot, her skin became fuzzy, and her necklace burned AGAIN; she needed relief, but how?

‘I need help…’ the girl thought. It was becoming worse, through the Lenner family’s dinner she was trying not to combust. The fire in her veins were hard to control, she didn’t know what was happening so making up an excuse she went to her bedroom and assured herself that she was ok and not feeling anything.

The girl didn’t know that if she goes like this for a long time she wouldn’t have any restraint left. Thinking of the people she could ask for help one person came into her mind…

Kelani

Dialing Kelani’s number on her phone and sending various messages she started to hyperventilate. She tried more times but nothing, it would go straight to voicemail and her messages were not even seen, she didn’t know what to do so she called another person…

ARTEA’S POV

Driving to the place we agreed on meeting I was trying my best to not puke and explode. It started getting intense I called for Rhett but he said that I need a person who knows more about control ‘cause if not the damages will be severe, ranging from injuries to death.

So here she is right now with Rhett trying to keep her ‘magic’ in check and they waiting for that person.

Kane

“Artea!” Kane’s voice boomed through the silent forest, I didn’t try to run up to him because I was more focused on not combusting. When Kane's gaze fell on me, he was relieved, perplexed, and concerned. I wouldn't blame him; I'm sure my hair is all over the place, and I'm sweaty and hot, so I'll let him figure it out.

“What the fuck is this…” he stammered looking at me, he was frozen, this motherfucker is actually frozen and confused. I weakly glared at him but he was busy examining my state. “Stop s-s-s-staring… and h-h-help me…” I snarked at him my voice cracking at the help me part.

Rhett explaining what had happened and when it happened, he was furrowing her brows, his eyes filled with confusion and amazement. ’Why should he be amazed?! By this?!’ I thought annoyingly making my state worse.

The shadows appeared to be slithering through the trees, leaves, and branches. The wind seemed to drop below average temperature as it got closer and larger to me, and the world seemed to darken. I wasn't scared, but I was nervous because I had no idea what was going on.I almost forgot Rhett and Kane so I tried getting there attention I opened my mouth and…

Nothing came out…

When I looked down at my hands, my eyes widened as I noticed a dark purple color at the tips of my fingers. I tried to catch my breath, but it didn't work. I wanted to scream but no sound came out, I wanted to stop but couldn't, and I wanted to ask for help but couldn't—

Darkness

THIRD PERSON POV

When Artea's fae and Kane were discussing Artea's condition, they were so focused on the situation that they didn't notice Artea's pleading eyes, her mouth opening and closing, tears that dripped down her face, her condition was worsening and they didn't notice it well... not yet.

Both of the guys felt a shift in the surrounding energy; the wind was different, the trees looked more like monsters, the branches seemed to elongate to claws, and shadows seemed to grow larger, swallowing the light that could be seen.

They hurriedly turned to the young girl, and their eyes widened to the point of bulging out of their sockets. Artea was hovering from the ground, her eyes imperial purple, her hands also covered in the same color, and her surroundings were darker, as if the shadows were protecting her.

They were terrified. Rhett appears to want to disappear due to the growing darkness, but Kane was frozen AGAIN due to Artea's state of her sudden magic getting out of control, but is it truly sudden?

They were at a loss for what to do, so the male witch did what he needed to do: he knocked her out. Stating an incantation in order to put Artea to sleep with her uncontrollable magic... Sure, Artea was out of control, but if she was out of control and didn't know any spells or how to use them, it would be simple to knock her out without hurting her.

She fell to the ground, and everything returned to normal. The trees were back to normal, the branches had sunk to the ground, the wind was now flowing in one direction, and the shadows had been replaced by light.

Kelani and Krisana's eyes wandered and they were in disbelief of the situation. Artea was on the ground, Kane was exhausted and his expression was as if he had seen a ghost, and the fae surprised Krisana but not Kelani, who saw the male fae when they caught Artea but didn't tell anyone anything.

Krisana ran up to the unconscious girl and placed her pointer and middle finger on Artea’s neck to find a pulse, “She has a pulse” she gave a relieved sigh, even though the two didn't get along, she didn't want to be a burden on her family, so if it means saving the girl, she will. “I knocked her out…” Kane breathed out a hand was placed on her shoulder and he nodded to Kelani.

They put the girl in their car, Krisana turned to the fae she was gonna say something when Kane cut her off “He’s coming with…” Krisana raised an eyebrow at the statement “… He’s Artea’s fae” he finished leaving his older sister surprised by the news.

‘She got her fae… that means she’s a witch’ Krisana thought brows furrowed again. Krisana started to sulk again which was noticed by her twin. “Don’t sulk Sana you’ll get wrinkles” Kelani joked to lighten the mood but instead of receiving a snarky remark she only got an eye roll.

“You’re a villain in someone else’s story”
