Farewell Son

Opening his eyes he could see multiple paramedics doing their best to help him, their voices sounded like distant thunder compared to the continous beeping of the heart monitor attached to his chest...the beeping being slow and erratic.

'What..happened to me?" He somehow still managed to ask himself questions in his already fractured mind.

"The patient apparently jumped of the 6th floor from the Empire State Building" One of the paramedics reported to the other, as he flashed a flashlight into the patients eyes separately.

The only reason they've managed to get to him fast enough was because they were nearby, although the fact that he was severely injured still stayed the same.

"Responsive to light" the paramedic reported yet again, as the pupil of the patient dilated.

The only thing he heard was the initial part 'I think I remember..something like that'

"Do you think it could be suicide?..We seem to have quite a few of them recently"

'Suicide huh?..No! No! No!' he kept repeating this to himself trying to escape the cruel reality that he was in.

But then he remembered..he remembered why he did it. Why he climbed that building and forced his feet of the ground, he remembered how time seemed to slow down during those few seconds.

His life upto now could be described as living hell, he was born into a kind and caring couple along with a younger brother. However, he was sickly from birth not to mention he was gifted with a weak body.

As if that wasnt enough, one day he was informed that his parents and younger brother died in a car accident. That was the last straw that broke him, one accident. One accident was all it took, everyone that he ever cared for dissapeared in a single moment.

In the vast world, he was all alone. Loneliness, it could sometimes be worse than dying. Each and every second in his own house was torture that drove him crazy.

And so... he decided he had enough...

Beep! Beep! Beep!

The heart monitor suddenly started going haywire, "The patients flatlining! Quick, charge the defibrillator!" one of the paramedics quickly grabbed the defibrillator close to him.

"Charging! 1..2..3..Clear!" the paramedic then placed the defibrillator on the patients chest. Waves of current ran throughout his whole body, sending an electric pulse to the heart, trying its best to jolt the heart back to life.

Silence, it filled every corner making the once slow and erratic hearbeat sound like pleasant music to the ears.

With clear sadness and disappointment one of the paramedics looked down at his watch on his right arm. He declared...

"Time of death 16:03"

Paramedics always do their best to provide the best help they could to their patients. They see some die and some live...Unfortunately, when they die its not always easy.

On the other hand, in a different place and time things were going differently. Instead of a life ending, a new one was just starting.

Winter came and overtook the world, painted the land in mesmerising white snow. Causing mountains to look like vast snow giants that overlooked everything, trees lost their green and vibrant colours and the wind turned into a cruel breeze that chilled your breath into a luminous mist.

The mist hid the beauty of the land and masked a fading figure struggling to pass throughout the heavy snow.

With a panting breath and a tired body she pulled her feet across the snow leaving footprints in her wake as she battled the opposing breeze, doing her best to reach the summit of the mountain.

She reached up to her face pulling up her hood trying to gain some warmth, while rubbing her hands together thawing the ice off her gloves.

"Huff..Huff..Its not so far anymore" She said to herself in a rough and exhausted voice, hoping to raise her hope.

After two hours her journey ended, she finally reached the summit of the mountain. Atop, her eyes met a small town residing on the mountain.

In the middle of the night everybody was asleep, the roofs of every house were covered with snow and each and every house had a snowman build on the outside with details to boot.

A luxurious hat, two specifically picked stones as eyes, an orange carrot as a nose and an old black coat to shelter from the cold. The imagination of the childen being clearly shown.

The paths throughout the town were paved with flat stones and every road had its own lantern light illuminating the streets for any person walking past.

To anyone seeing this town it would seem as a loving and charming place. The perfect place for generations of families to settle in and spread their clan name.

Her eyes showed clear amazement but this quickly dissapeared as she remembered why she came here in the first place. She stepped into the town and instantly headed for her target.

She finally came across what she was looking for, an orphanage. On the other side of the town, a certain building stood out from others. It was bigger and clearly structured in a different way, from the outside it seemed like atleast several tens of people could reside in the house.

She came closer to the entrance of the orphanage, and finally rested for a few seconds. Her breathing calmed down and so did her heartbeat. She took off the bag from her back and opened it, revealing a newborn baby with clear black hair and coal eyes wrapped in multiple blankets and covers to shelter from the cold.

Throughout the whole journey, she did her upmost best to protect him.

The women took off her hood and revealed her appearance, she had a light complexion, pitch black kind eyes that appear lighter around the rims of the irises. Black hair tied back in a messy bun with several bangs of hair left to dangle over her face.

With care and caution that any mother would show she placed the baby on the front entrance inside a basket that she took out the bag. She caressed the forehead of the boy with love and gentleness, afraid to leave him here.

"I'm sorry..I have to leave you here.." With tears streaming down her cheeks, she said her final words to her one and only son.

"I'm sorry I won't be able to see you grow up"

"I'm sorry I won't be there for you when you get hurt"

By this point her eyes were completely drained of tears..and yet her love was mirror clear just as her pain to leave her son.

"I wish you a lucky life"

"I hope you grow up healthy without any hardships"

"If only your father would have been able to see you"

She had so much to say and so much little time on her hands. She somehow managed to calm herself and block the tears threatening to break the dam.

And so, she finally brought the baby up close and for the first and last time she kissed her son on the forehead. She then stood up and knocked on the door three times, each being loud and strong.

She hastily ran making sure not look back, as she knew that if she did she wouldn't be able to leave without him.

As she ran her shadow dissapeared and she became lost in the snow, her footsteps covered up by the cascading snow.

Leaving her son to live on without her, to take on the hardships of life without the help of his parents

The boy was left with nothing but his name engraved with gold letters on his covers...

"Akira Samezaki"
