Kai can't believe it, her wish finally came true. She has finally met a Guardian! And a strong one at that. Though, she wondered, has this guy been following her from the very beginning all along?
From the looks of it, Kai nodded, for the answer is yes. Someone with a strong aura can have definitely mastered the art of Aura Concealment. Well, that was what she was told by the dead weight inside of her who, still remained silent as ever.
Kai beamed at Finn, which the older guy tilted his head to.
"My wish finally came true!" Kai said excitedly as she grabbed Finn's hand and shake it wildly. It doesn't seem that Kai is excited, at all, if Finn wasn't blind. "I was just thinking about meeting a Guardian on the way of exterminating that creature, turns out my guess was right as always!" Lois grinned at him, all teeth. Finn raised an eyebrow at the scene. He definitely sighted some sharp fangs in there.
Finn nodded at Kai's words. "Indeed you are lucky, Miss?" he asked, hoping to get the Grim Reaper's name in a normal way.
Kai, in her excitement, seems to have her mind out of the game and wave at Finn, who is looking at her with focused attention unlike the former. "The name's Kai, sir!" she saluted.
"I believe Kai, that if it were a different Guardian who has seen you, one deadly battle may have occurred." Finn nodded as he laid out the words for the kid in front of him seriously. " And I think that your Grim has been ignoring your questions, is it?" he added as a matter of fact and Kai's eyes widen as Finn hit the jackpot.
"Yes, the thing had been silent for about - well almost at the beginning of my transition, a.k.a when this thing," she pointed at her chest indifferently, "killed my mom and stabbed me with some blackish dagger," Kai said totally unconcerned right now about the incident to try and not feel the hurt it brings whenever she is alone. She looked at Finn and scratched the back of her head, putting more focus on Guardians who might kill her on sight. "But the killing me on sight - I wanna get back to."
Finn looked directly into Kai's eyes as he answered. "The Grim Reaper's don't have a nice track record in their books. So, as a fellow who helps control the growth of Stygian, I warn you to be careful when you meet one." He warns as Kai's expression went from serious and cold in just a split second. Finn eyed her warily after seeing this.
Kai has no idea what her Grim Reaper ancestors did to land her kind to the bad graces of the Guardians because if it is big, she'd have a hard time getting around and doing her job then.
"Can you tell me why we have a bad reputation to Guardians? And the reason as to why you seem not to agree with it."
Finn sighed. "Grim Reapers use the same energy as the Stygians life source," he slowly walked around Kai as he continued. "Curse Energy, Guardians calls it. It must be strong and deeply rooted in a Grim Reaper's heart. " Finn explained as he made a full circle around the deep-in thought Grim Reaper. His feet slowly coming to a halt in front of the Grim Reaper. "It may be despair, betrayal, regret, lust, greed, rage, or maybe all of them in one Grim Reaper. Well, maybe not at all, but the more chaotic those negative feelings are, and deeply engraved to them," Finn connected his eyes at Lois, seeing the swirling emotions in her eyes. "-the dangerous and stronger they are."
Kai may be an idiot, but she wasn't dumb. She acts like it to throw people off. Hearing Finn's words, only one thought is running inside her head. "They thought we are some kind of Stygians too, isn't it?"
Finn didn't answer as he looked at Kai's sad gaze. The kid acts though as if nothing bothers her when, in truth, it does. The bitter truth that the Grim Reaper in front of him is just lying, not just to him but also to herself.
Finn patted the teenage girl on the shoulder as if to reassure her. His grip tightened a little, thinking about the hardships Kai must have gone through alone. Thinking about it makes him mad how fate can be cruel sometimes. "You're going to be okay, Little Reaper-"
"I'm almost as tall as you." Kai butted in, trying to sound as jokingly as possible. She can't confirm it if it's to make her better or to make the Guardian think that she's okay and not weak.
"- Just don't be suicidal and present yourself like a wrapped gift when you see other Guardians." Finn continued, not minding Kai's interruption. His eyes caught, again, the attention of the state of Kai's clothes and shoes. Finn fished out something from his pocket, which he always carries just in case of emergency, or if a powerful Stygian creature/s knocks him out. Someone is bound to find his body and get him to a hospital. A credit card for that is needed. Finn always came prepared in battles.
Finn tossed a black credit card in Kai's direction, which she caught effortless. She examined the card with naked curiosity. Her eyes sparkle seeing this kind of credit. It was different from what she had seen others use in an ATM machine. She looked up at Finn and waved the black card. "Is this for free or not? I know this card is different, so it must do something other credit cards can't, right?" Kai asked, eyeing the credit card warily.
Even if this Guardian is good to her but after saying that they are not supposed to: is worth the suspicion even if it may sound paranoid.
The Guardian smirked at Kai in amusement. "Nothing's free, Little Reaper," he stated and almost laughed at the pouting Grim Reaper. "It is indeed different than the others. It is designed not to get tracked every time you used it. Only me can do that, got that?"
"So what's the price for this special card?" she asked, waving the card in front of Finn. It's free money, even if she has to do something for him, as long as it's reasonable. She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at the Guardian in a mock challenge.
Finn could only smirk at Kai and also raised an eyebrow jokingly. "A favor. It's a good favor and will benefit you too. Meet me at the top of Sun's Hill every day at five am." He said with no room for negotiation and started to walk away from the alley towards the bustling street.
As Finn was five steps away from Kai, she stops the Guardian. "You didn't answer my question," Kai said, hoping to rest her overthinking mind. Kai listened to Finn when he was explaining, but he never did answer her question. "Why are you treating me like you said the other Guardians would."
But Finn continued his way and waved back at a confused and bothered Kai.
