As the darkness lifts, morning comes again.
And I, ... find myself unable to get out of bed.
Uhhhh...
Morning...?
Already...?
Mmmm... 10 minutes.... I still don't wanna leave the bed. *hug* This bed is so soft I can even hug it.
After sometime has passed... I assume 10 minutes, but who could tell.
Ahhhh... that was nice... goodbye soft, fluffy bed. You have served me well. I'll miss you.
Now, what do I do today?
Guess I should give the Guild a visit. But first, breakfast.
I went to the restaurant. And there waiting for me, "Hello sir. You enjoyed your rest I presume. It's almost past breakfast."
"Yes, best bed I ever laid my head on."
"I'm glad to hear that. We do pride ourselves on our service. What will it be for breakfast, sir?"
"I'll have the bird from last night."
...
Breakfast was also great. I had this worlds equivalent of a cross between a chicken sandwich and egg Benedict. It was pretty good. The runny egg and sweet chicken mixed together gave a very rich flavor.
My only problem is that they don't have coffee. They don't even know what coffee is.
Well, if coffee hasn't been discovered yet. I'll have to discover it myself.
After that I checked out and went straight towards the Guild.
Wow... So this is the guild building... it's huge...
And it's also adorned with various flags.
The lower part of the building is made of stone, at least two meters high, and rest is made of wood.
The entrance is a big door way with a circular stone pillar on each side.
As I walk inside, I notice the ceiling of the main hall is quite high, with flags and banners hanging down from them.
The floor is made of stone and there are tables and chairs everywhere, arranged in rows like a cafeteria.
In the distance, sitting on one of said tables...
Gravel, "Lookie who's here."
Alice, sitting on a chair, like a normal person would, "Hmm? Oh!" She throws me a wave and I return it.
Now, that over there is probably the reception. I can see a women wearing a white shirt underneath a black vest sitting behind the desk.
From this distance, I can see her deep green eyes underneath her glasses. Her hair is light brown almost blond and tied in a ponytail.
"Hello."
"Hello, welcome to the guild. My name is Glendel, I'm the guild receptionist. How can I help you?"
"First, I would like some information. What do you do here at the guild?"
"We in the adventures guild take on commissions from the people and give them to adventures. Commissions include anything from gathering materials and helping people with their work, to monster exterminations and escorting people between towns and cities. Once the commission is complete we pay the adventures a percentage, and of course they can keep what they find along they way or sell it to the merchants side of the guild."
After asking some more questions to get a better understanding about the guild. There doesn't really seem to be any negatives to being a member. So..
"I'd like to join the adventures guild."
Glendel, "Very well. We'll need you to fill out your information on this parchment here and..."
???, "HAH!! This little kid wants to join the guild?! Hahahahah... What can this kid even do?! Hahaha, look I don't know what you're thinking kid, but take my advice. Your not gonna last a day out there, this is a place for men, not a play ground. Now run along and play with the other kids outside."
Sigh...
Ahh yes, the typical bully that picks on the new comer. Of course, there had to be at least one.
I turn around to see a shirtless, tan, muscular man wearing only a small dark green vest that doesn't even cover all of his chest, grinning at me, challengingly.
Glendel, "Tares, please don't cause any trouble again."
Level 8 huh? "Ummm, hello. I just got here, my name is Ether." I offer my hand.
Tares, "Heh. So you think your tough huh? You think, just because you got some levels, that you're ready to be an adventurer? You think you can handle the world out there?" He says while circling me.
"I like to think that I can hold my own."
Tares, "Heh heh! Let's put that to the test shall we."
Glendel, "Tares, STOP!"
Gravel, "Ohhh, this oughta be good." Alice stands up, but Gravel raises her hand to stop her. "Wait."
Alice, "We have to stop them! He might get hurt!"
Gravel, "If the kid really did make his way here all alone, then he should be able to hold his own here. This is a good opportunity to see what the new kid can do."
Reluctantly, Alice sits back down and watches with worry on her face.
He walked up to me and then just started throwing punches. Typical of these sorts of characters...
With my fore sight and high perception from my Assassin skill, plus my high agility stat. I could see the punches coming in slow motion.
I'm actually seeing this in bullet time! Or should I say... fist time? Either way it's still pretty cool!
I also practiced some martial arts in the past, so it's pretty easy to just dodge all his attacks, but...
Tares, "Hay! Stop dodging and fight back! You can't win a fight by running away!"
He's right, I probably won't win. But I should have pretty high stamina, so if I keep this up, he'll get tired eventually.
But then... I tripped.
Uh oh. Oufh! I know I'm not used to this body yet, but do I really have to trip now.
He's still coming at me.
*Shing!!* "Enough!!" Alice brandishes her sword between me and Tares.
Tares, "Tsk." As he turns and walk away.
Alice, "Are you ok?" As she extends her hand to me.
"Thank you, but yes, I'm fine. Just tripped." I take her hand, stand up and "I probably could've taken him. ...Maybe."
Alice, "I'm sure you could." She flashes me a smile. "He already looks a bit exhausted and you look just fine. And I have to say, great foot work. Where did you learn how to dodge like that?"
Gravel, "Yeah, you're good, but he's also right. Just dodging isn't going to win you a fight you know. You need to learn how to attack too." As she walks towards us.
Then she put her arm across my shoulders and in a proud, big sister manners, "Want me to teach you?"
"Uhhh... no thanks. I'm a support type anyway, not really cut out for the front line." This should be good, if I play as a support I won't draw much attention to myself.
Yeah. Let's go with a support.
Glendel, "Well, you certainly are capable. Now, as we were discussing, before we were interrupted. If you want to join the guild, please fill out these parchments."
I filled out the parchments.
Glendel, "I'll confirm. Your name is Ether, you are 15 years old, level 6 and you are a... bard? You... write.. songs and poetry?"
"Oh well, I mostly play music but, sure." I have two choices in support, either a front line tank, or a back line bard.
Tank is out of the question, since it requires me to fight in the front lines, so I had to pick bard.
It's not a bad class. Bards don't have any strong attacks, but they specialize in buffing allies, increasing their speed, attack, endurance and defense. But I don't really play support often so my level in bard is a bit lacking.
I also haven't touched my guitar in years, but it's the only choice I have at the moment.
Glendel, "Ahh... I'm sorry but you're going to have to pick a viable combat role. Singer and poet aren't really... combat roles."
Hmm? Do support bards not exist here? "Oh don't worry about it, I have my ways of fighting, and I'm also pretty good with the bow when it comes down to it." I gesture at my very normal looking wooden bow.
It's just a normal bow. Don't worry about it.
"Well, alright then. After seeing that, I know you can at least take care of yourself."
Then she verified my status and gave me my guild card.
"Ok, here is your guild card, don't lose it. You're going to need it to enter the town and to accept commissions. You are starting out as a beginner, but you can climb up the ranks once your level gets higher."
As she explained to me, everybody starts out as a beginner, no matter level they are. Once your level is high enough, you can take a test to increase your rank. They go like this.
Rank Level
Beginner 1-5
Copper 5-10
Silver 10-20
Gold 20-30
Platinum 30-40
Diamond 40-55
S 55-75
Glendel, "The commission boards are over there. Once you have decided on a commission you'd like to take, bring it to me and I can confirm it for you. May you accomplish great things adventure Ether."
Gravel, "Well, now that you're part of the guild, let's go on your first commission." As she walks toward the boards.
"Let's?"
Gravel, "Yeah, now get over here."
I look at Alice and raise my shoulders "Guess I'll be bothering you for this commission..."
Alice, "I don't mind. It's just the two of us anyway. It's good to work with more people in this line of work."
Gravel, "Hay, so what commission do you want?"
My life in another world is starting to get a bit more exciting.
