Chapter 6

I bought the quiver and the bag, and Gravel left her spear for sharpening.

By the time we got out of the shop, the sun was already hanging low in the sky. Which reminds me...

"I still need a place to stay, do you two have any recommendations."

Alice, "Well, if you've got the money to spare, Mountains Rest is great place to stay at. It only opened recently but a lot of rich people go there for the great service and soft beds."

Gravel, "Yeah... that was amazing..." as if she's remembering a fond, long forgotten, memory.

Alice, "Hehe, but that's not a place you can stay at everyday though. You should try Moonlight, it's an inn close to the gates. From what I've heard, they're not too expensive and they have good food too."

If it's so good, then I might want to try Mountains Rest for at least a night. I have the money to spare.

"So where do you two stay?"

Gravel, "We stay at the guild. Rooms there are really cheap."

Alice, "Yes, but only adventures from the guild can stay. Why don't you try joining the guild? You get work, a good place to sleep and you won't need a visa to enter towns and cities anymore."

"I'll think about it. But for tonight, I think I might try Mountains Rest."

Gravel, "Ouu huuu. Rich, aren't we?"

"Look, I earn my money so that I can spend it having fun. Besides, it's been a long trip for me. I need something right now."

After giving me a smug smile, we walked around town a little bit more before parting ways as the sun started to dip, and I made my way to Mountains Rest.

*Ring ring...*

As I walked in to Mountains Rest, the receptionist was waiting to greet me at the front desk.

"Welcome to Mountains Rest, where we pride ourselves on providing our customers with the best care, making sure their rest is as sound as the mountains of old. How may I help you?"

Whistle.. They were right, this really is place for rich people, it looks amazing.

It's one of the building made of stone and the inside is beautifully decorated. It's also quite bright in here.

I thought they didn't have electricity, but that looks like light from an LED.

The receptionist also looks very professional.

"I'd like to stay a night."

"Certainly. Would you like normal, middle class or luxury?"

"What do they entail?"

"Normal provides you with a room with our signature soft bed and costs 30silver per night. Middle class provides you with a room and access to the bath for 50silver. Luxury provides you with all the above, plus breakfast and dinner, along with access to our house of mist and a full body oil massage for 2gold."

"House of mist?"

"Yes. We put a basket of hot rocks in a room with various fragrant wood, herbs and flowers. When you pour water on the stones it creates the most blissful of mist to help you forget about your fatigue. Most people here don't know about it, weather because they have never heard of it or have not the money to spend on it, but I assure you it will be worth your while."

Oh, sounds like a steam room.

Judging from this worlds standards, it sounds pretty expensive. But, I haven't been to a spa since I was a kid, so I guess I'll go with that for today. "I'll have the luxury please."

"As you wish. I'll show you to your room then."

"One more question before we go. What is that?" I point to the lights.

"Ahh, that's a magic chandelier. Beautiful isn't it? Instead of candles like normal chandeliers, this one uses mana to create brilliant white lights. It's one of the few in town."

"It's very nice."

She led me through a corridor with a cobble stone floor, wooden walls and doors on either side.

The corridor is also very well lit, with the same type of light. Not from chandeliers tho, they just look like squares of light on the ceiling.

"Here is your room." It's about half way down the corridor.

"Thank you."

She gives me a small bow before leaving.

I opened the door and walked off the stone on to the wooden floor of the room and was immediately greeted with the smell of old, well aged wood.

It's light and faint, but it's definitely there. A very pleasant smell.

As I walked further in to the room, the lights came on. White lights, not different to that of the chandelier, but these lights are being emitted by only four candles, one on the middle of each wall. They illuminate the room almost completely.

After dropping off my stuff at the room, I went to get some dinner down stairs.

The inn's restaurant had a beautiful atmosphere. The floor is paved with wooden tiles made of multiple different types of wood and arranged in to snail cone patterns.

The ceiling was illuminated with a soft orange light and the square tables were arranged in symphony with the floor pattern.

Instead of a medieval inn and tavern, I feel like I'm in a modern high class hotel. Jeez..

As I sat down, a man wearing a brown shirt and a red bandanna approached me, "What can I get you tonight sir?"

This guy is a professional.

"It's my first time here. Do you have any recommendations?"

"We usually offer our luxury guest a five course meal, which includes a soup, appetizer, salad, main dish and desert. All the items you can choose individually or select from a set of pre-arranged courses. Though if you wanted something fresh, our hunter just brought in a wild boar and some Kojo birds."

"Kojo birds?"

"Yes, they're large orange and red birds the size of a small hound. The hunter brought in a good batch today, so I would recommend them if you haven't tried them yet."

"Ok, I'll have that as my main course then. Can I leave the rest to you?"

"Of course, sir. Would you like any drinks? Perhaps some wine or ale? We have a wide selection."

I don't really drink alcohol, so "I'm not looking to get drunk tonight, do you have anything else?"

"Certainly. We also have a wide selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Do you have any preferences?"

"I don't know what's good yet, so could I leave that to you as well?"

Waiter, "Of course sir."

After that, the waiter brought me a wooden mug filled with a clear liquid, which I assume isn't just water.

*sips*

Ouuu...! This is good. It's slightly sweet and has a really good citrus flavor to it.

I like citrus fruits and I used to eat and drink a lot of citrus stuff back home, so this really hits the spot.

"Is it to your liking, sir?"

"Yes, it's very good, I do like citrus fruits. May I ask what this is?"

"I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is a drink called Sweet Lime, made by simmering Sweet Grass and some citrus fruits. If you like citrus, might I recommend our signature Crimson Spark. It is also another citrus flavored drink, less sweet, a little more... sour. It's quite popular among the towns people."

"Ok, I'll have that too then." The waiter nodded and walks away.

A while later he brings me a mug filled with a cloudy red liquid.

Crimson spark huh? It almost looks like curry...

It smells nice... *sips*

Ohh. It is less sweet, there's a slight hint of lemon grass and it has a charred after taste, but it's not bitter, it's quite relaxing.

While I enjoyed my drink, they set my table with the appropriate utensils and brought out the soup.

It was a soup with boar meat and vegetables. It was good but, I've had nothing but boar meat and fruits for the last few days so I'm not really too excited for this. Next was the appetizer. Small peaces of toast with three different toppings on them arranged like flower petals on a plate.

The first one is a light green paste, it taste like avocado but lighter, almost like whip cream.

The second is a white paste with chopped herbs sprinkled on top.

Ohh ho ho. This one is good, it's a coconut flavored paste for sure. I got to eat a lot of coconuts when I was a kid... brings back memories.

The next one is red paste with some chunks in it, and it almost looks like jam. Oh, it's strawberry jam, I didn't expect to get this in a five course meal.

"I hope you like them. The red one is a local specialty, grown close to Grant, and the other two are quite rare ingredients in this region. It was brought in form the costal city Morte."

"Yes, they're very nice. I especially like the white one, but I think it would taste even better with a bit of char to it."

"Oh? I'll let the chef know then. Thank you. Your next plate will be the salad. After that, the main dish. Kojo bird glaze."

The salad is a mix of fruits and vegetables that I haven't seen before in my world. There also no dressing.

*Crunch*

Oh I see, the fruits are very sweet and flavorful. They mix very well with the crunchy vegetables, this is very satisfying to bite in to.

Then, the main dish. It looks like grilled chicken breast and boneless chicken thigh served on some lettuce and glazed with a light brown sauce. It looks like gravy but is shinier.

It looks really good...

*ham*

OH THE GODS this taste great!

The sauce is creamy and has a slight hint of mustard, but other than that, it doesn't have a strong flavor. The meat itself was cooked to perfection, it's so tender and juicy, and the meat is sweet, it's a little gamy but the mustard helps with that.

Oh man,he wasn't lying, that was a great main dish, maybe I could have that again tomorrow.

Finally, for dessert, I had honey soaked bread layered together like a pancake with butter on top. There's no crust and it slices very easily.

*ham*

Oh...It's warm...the bread is chewy and the honey melts and spreads all over your mouth. The butter also makes it taste very satisfying.

I guess in any world, people will still crave sugars and fats. But this might be a little too sweet for me.

I hand the waiter 20silver. "As thank you for the recommendations. They were really good."

"Oh... thank you sir."

Then I went back up to my room and sat down, laying my face on the table in the middle of the room.

Ahhhh, that really filled me up.

Dinner aside, this is a really spacious room, and it's well decorated too. There's a rug with beautiful floral designs under the chair and table.

The floor and ceiling are made of rectangular pieces of wood arranged in a back and forth zipper shape. There's probably a name for it, I just can't be bothered to remember right now.

The walls are painted white with the slightest tint of yellow and the bed is almost king sized.

This really IS a place for rich people.

Well, guess I'll go check out the massage and steam room now.

...

A full body massage and an hour in the steam room later, I flopped on the bed.

Ahhhhh...

I really haven't been to the spa in a long time. That really, Really... hit the spot.

The two ladies giving the massage were amazing. They knew what they were doing and I appreciate the treatment. I gave them each 20silver.

The steam room had a selection of different flowers you could put on the rocks for different aromas. It was a great experience, but now I need to collapse.

The bed is so soft I feel like I might just fall through it. It's like really fluffy cotton and the temperature is just right. I feel as if I could sleep in it forever.

Now I know why this place is famous for its beds, this bed is crazy good, I've never felt anything like it in my life.

I wonder if they use magic on this bed...
