Chapter 6

"Hey Baby" the baritone voice drawled.

I let out a tired sigh, butterflies fluttering in my stomach and plastered a smile on my face, hoping to the heavens that my voice would convey it.

"Yo Kayden, how is it going?"

"Are we reduced to Kayden now, Baby?"

"Um.."

He let out his own sigh.

"George, do you have any idea how me and my brothers got worried when we couldn't find you and your dogs kept whimpering and running in every room searching for you?"

"My brothers and I" I correct him, whispering, if he heard it he didn't comment.

There was series of crashes and some beautiful array of profanities at the background that sounded a lot like Hayden and Jayden. His brothers.

"Jay, could you not touch my drama notebook? It worths more than you entire existence." Kayden warned, and of course Jayden would never let an insult directed at him slide.

Hayden, Jayden and Kayden Walter are the triplets of Mr and Mrs Walter, the people who took me in when my grandfather died. Mrs Walter used to be my mother's best friend although she is a couple of years older than Olivia. The women began to grow apart when Olivia ran off to her British lover.

I got to know of Jessica Walter on my grandfather's burial, where child service had come to supposedly take care of me seeing as the relative I had left was my mother and she was still under probation as a recovering alcoholic.

But Olivia was not the only relative I had left.

She has six older siblings but they didn't want to take custody of my sorry ass seeing as I am a troubled child and would be a lot of responsibility, burden and as well a huge liability.

Tough love. Oh I know.

I would never forget the day they took me to England and introduced me to their little boys.

I had been clutching a beaten up Ben-10 knapsack to my chest. Every breath I took was beginning to hurt my chest because I had forgotten to take my prescribed pillies.

Well, that's what the doctor called them.

My name was written on the little bottle at the bottom of my knapsack, it was the same shade of the yellow on the traffic light. I usually hated why if I didn't take them at the given time, my heart would feel like it is been impaled with a fire poker and roasted over open fire like marshmallow.

"Honey, you would be staying with us until your mom gets every thing settled. Ok?"

They smiled at me warmly.

I didn't want my mom to settle anything, I wished to be as far away from her as I could because she was mean to me when gramps let me stay with her sometimes. I didn't want them to call me Honey, but I didn't utter a word. It is not like I could speak anyway and I didn't want to do anything wrong, I didn't want them to treat me like mom used to when she takes that water in big glass bottles.

"Boys, we are home. Come see who we came with"

There was silence for sixteen solid seconds and then-

"Freeze! Don't move" A high pitched voice from behind me spoke as the hair on the nape of my neck rose

My body almost always works differently from my mind and this was one of those times.

I turn around slowly and tilted my head a little higher to look at his face. He was wearing a Green Goblin mask that was way bigger than his entire head.

His green eyes blinked through the mask an then he slowly lowered his gun and pulled of the mask. I gasped inaudibly as I noticed that the looked exactly like the boy standing in front of the adults, he was still pointing his gun at them with a mischievous look on his face until he noticed his brother was not mirroring his action.

"Hayden" he whispered loudly "you are supposed to guard the other one you- oh"

He stopped himself when he looked at me and Hayden said-

"Yeah"

Then like clockwork, they simultaneously turned their red curly heads to Tyler and Jessica

"Who is she?"

Tyler flinched before he responded.

"Hayden, Jayden, this is George. She is going to be staying with us for a few days and please stop doing that"

They looked at each other then wore identical grins, turned to face me and my heart throbed even more painfully but I wore a straight face, refusing to show anything.

"Welcome to our house, George" they both said simultaneously again and my eyes widened as I turned to the adults for help.

"Seriously boys, stop. You are going to scare the pretty lady away" Jessica crouched to their height whilst smiling warmly at me and I shyly looked away.

My breathing was beginning to hurt my chest even more and I had to rub my chest, hoping to ease the pain.

"Can we k-keep her, m-mom?" A different voice stuttered nervously, Jessica and Tyler exchanged bewildered looks then turned their attention to another boy that looked exactly like Hayden and Jayden.

"Of course Kayden, go say hi"

He looked at Tyler and he only urged him on. Kayden let go of his mother's skirt and pushed his glasses up his nose and began to walk across the large room and towards me, fiddling with his shirt but he didn't get very far as he stepped on his shoe lace and let out a shriek before tumbling to the floor and his chin began to tremble. His brothers and parents quickly rushed over to his side and he bravely fought the tears from falling from his eyes.

I couldn't stop looking at him as he made it a sole purpose to avoid my gaze, the red spots on his chubby cheeks turned even darker.

My feet began to move before I even realized it as I walked towards the boy on the floor. I barely noticed when they made room for me to reach me. I picked his glasses up from where it slid to and gently put it on his face back, patted his head and smiled at him.

I was on my knees while he sat on the floor, cleaning his little nose then he stretched hand

"H-hi, I'm Kayden. What's your name?"

I wanted to shake his hand at least but a blinding pain crossed my chest as I grabbed it with both hands

"George?"

I felt cold sweat run down my back.

"I-is she a-alright mom?"

My vision began to blur and a ringing noise wormed it's way into my head.

"Tyler, call the ambulance! George can you hear me?!"

Then I saw darkness.
