“It might make me consider it a little more,” he says reluctantly, making my hope soar. “But then the rest of the class might try to do the same thing and that would just mess up the whole project and what conclusion we’re trying to see,” he continues, his eyes catching something behind us.

My heart sinks as my skin begins to tingle and heat up, letting me know exactly who it is that caught his eyes.

“Mr. Ashford, can you come here?” Cooper asks, waving him over.

“No, it’s fine. I’m good,” I rush out, but he ignores me.

Ashford quietly strides over to stand behind me, hovering over me and filling my senses of him all over again. This has got to stop. Get yourself under control, Natalie.

“Would you want to swap with Mr. Peterson here and be with Chelsea for the week while he is with Natalie?”

All air leaves me and becomes impossible to get back. My body is racked with nerves. But maybe this means he’s giving in?
