Chapter 18

Felipe looked at her with disgust.

“WHAT?” she snapped at him while lowering her half eaten burger.

“Do you always eat like this?”

“None of your business.”

“Well, people will see you as my wife so it actually is my business.” He picked up a napkin and held it in front of her. “Stop it, you’re gonna choke.” He was getting annoyed.

Layla throw her burger back in the container and took the napkin with more force than needed. She cleaned her chin and mouth while giving Felipe a dirty look.

Felipe was too distracted by the sauce that was on the tip of her nose, so he pointed at his nose.

Layla rolled her eyes and wiped her nose. “Happy?”

“Not particularly.” He went back to cutting his stake.

Hector walked in holding a notepad and pen. He pulled back the chair between them and sat down heavily. “Alright, let’s get this over with … Where is my sandwich?”

“Gone.” Layla said with her mouth full.

“I was gone for a second.” Hector said in surprise.

“Would you stop talking with your mouth full, it’s disgusting.” Felipe said at the same time.

Layla completely ignored Felipe and turned to face hector pointing her burger at him, “well I wouldn't have to stress eat if you hadn't killed that poor guy.”

“What did you expect? You asked him for help.”

“SO WHAT? HE SAID HE WON’T TELL ANYONE?”

“AND YOU BELIEVED HIM?” he said with a smirk.

Layla growled and got up, which caused the chair to make a squeaky sound on the floor.

As she was turning around on her heels, Felipe grabbed her wrist. “For the love of god sit your ass down, the sooner we get this over with the less you’d have to tolerate us.”

“FINE” she said sitting back down, still giving Hector nasty looks.

“Okay. Hector please continue.”

Hector started without taking his eyes off Layla. “The most essential thing is a solid story, because no one in their right mind would believe you two just decided to get married, specially considering SOMEONE’S attitude.”

“Sorry, it’s just my first time being kidnapped. I’ll be sure to take notes for the future ones.” She said with a fake smile to which Hector replied the same way. Layla narrowed her eyes at him, pouting.

“Continue.” Felipe interrupted them before things would get out of hand.

Hector waited a moment still facing Layla, then turned his attention back to Felipe. “Bosses marrying their gifts is not unheard, we are gonna make them believe that after she met you she fell hopelessly in love with you and did all she could to make you love her back, which finally worked; hence your marriage.”

“So a textbook Stockholm syndrome.” Layla said sarcastically.

“Please, there are women who would sell their soul to the devil just for me to look at them.” Felipe condescendingly said.

“Wow, you know things like that make me actually be thankful for the way my life turned out.” She took a second then continued with a straight face, “I mean how shitty your life has to be to consider spending time with you a good thing? Poor girls.” She shook her head in sympathy.

“Anyways,” Hector continued, “We have to sell the story, so this kind of behavior needs to stop. There might be time till your introduction to the family, but they are not the only people I’m worried about. There’s our guards, our soldiers, and the people who work in the hotel. They will meet you whether we like it or not. And also there will always be at least someone in the house to do the housework and cooking, which is actually good because we need to make sure you two make a believable couple. But before any of that you need to take your wedding photos, so you’ll need a wedding dress.” He said turning to Layla.

“We’re going shopping again?” Layla asked cautiously.

Hector laughed sarcastically, “Hell no, not after your last shenanigans. You have lost your going out privileges, you'll stay in till you prove you’re responsible enough, so stop looking at me like that.”

“Then you’ll be trying on wedding dresses for me?” She said with a wicked smile.

“Very funny. The dress lady will be here tomorrow, she’ll bring a few choices for you to try on. And by the way don't tire yourself out thinking of ways to run off, unless you want more blood on your hands.” Hector said threateningly pointing his finger at her face.

“YOU’RE THE ONE WHO KILLED HIM.”

Hector who now had turned his attention onto his notes of what needed to be done answered coldly , “and you’re the one who left me no other choice. But at least you’ll learn your actions have consequences not only for yourself but for others too, so I advise you to start acting responsibly.”

“Be ready on time, tomorrow.” Hector said after a few second ignoring the death rays coming from Layla.

She got up and stomped out of the room.

Felipe followed her with his eyes. “Well, she didn't shoot us, I’m gonna go ahead and call tonight a success.”

“I still wouldn't leave my gun unattended if I were you.”
