Fighting David

Obcisor didn't waste a single second. As soon as he was given the go, he rushed at David.

He swung his right dagger straight into David's chest.

David casually took 1 step backward and twisted his body a little to dodge the incoming blade by a couple of centimeters.

Obcisor swung his left dagger horizontally aiming at David's head.

David ducked a little and let the dagger hit empty air. With the same motion, he hit Obcisor with his shoulder knocking him a few meters back.

He hadn't done any damage but created distance between them.

[Air Slash]

5 green slashes formed in front of him and shot out towards David.

Swoosh.

David took his sword and swiped it around effortlessly.

All of the 5 slashes that were shooting towards David instead got destroyed after hitting his blade. Not a single slash managed to leave a mark on the blade, let alone even hit David.

Obcisor frowned. 'This is bad.' He didn't have a lot of skill, to begin with. The skills he did have David dismissed them as anything important.

'There is something else I can do.' He thought.

Once again, he dashed forward to hit David. This time he changed his two daggers to their single form. He then swung the dagger vertically, trying to hit David's left shoulder.

Seeing this, David once more tried to simply dodge the attack. Alas,

[Vocal Taunt]

Suddenly, this paused David in his motion.

'Got you' Obcisor thought. Finally, he managed to catch him standing still. He could hit him now.

Except he didn't realize that he had done a very serious miscalculation.

BAM.

Before he could even hit David, David's sword hit him right in the chest.

<[NPC David] dealt 700 Damage to you>

'Holy Shit' That was a lot of damage.

He made a grave mistake. He was used to stopping monsters in their tracks or stop their skill casting with [Vocal Taunt] so he forgot the very fundamental function of the skill.

To make the enemy attack you.

'Shit. His attack speed is too fast. He will hit me before I even get to touch him with my dagger.'

Now he truly had no skill in his arsenal that could help him in this fight.

David was out of the taunt within a second. He looked towards Obcisor with shock.

He wasn't shocked that he was taunted by the opponent. No. That happened quite a few times a day. Most people he fought knew to not do that, but still once in a while, some would come and get hit when they try to taunt him.

Most of them would lose a significant chunk of their HP. But, Obcisor didn't. In fact, it seemed he only lost about 10% of his total HP.

'This is not a bad seed. If we germinate him well, he will grow up to be a large tree in the future.' He thought.

Obcisor tried to hit him a couple of times more. But David stuck to the same formula of dodging and pushing him away.

Suddenly, David looked a little to the side and smiled a little. Obcisor didn't need to look back to know what had just happened.

Number 119 was just done with their initial test, it was time for David to start getting serious.

David went on the offensive and started swinging the flat side of the sword at Obcisor. It was slow, so Obcisor easily dodged it.

But slowly, the hits started getting faster and faster until there was no way for him to dodge the attacks anymore.

He was starting to take hits. They weren't doing much damage however and he could withstand quite a few of them.

Each of David's attacks with the flat side of the blade dealt around 200 Damage. He would miss a few of his attacks here and there, but slowly, his hits were whittling down Obcisor's HP.

'Shit' He would soon be at 50% HP.

There was only one way to prolong the battle, and that was to heal back to however much he could.

So, he tried something he had already done once again.

As soon as David came near him, he used [Vocal Taunt].

David got taunted into attacking Obcisor. He stopped intentionally using the flat side and instinctively used the bladed side of the sword.

He swung the sword from above with massive force behind it. Just as it was about to hit him, Obcisor grinned.

[Bulwark's Healing]

He activated his healing spell that turned all incoming raw damage to healing. The sword hit his head and...

<[NPC David] missed>

'No.'

David regained consciousness and immediately jumped back to create some distance.

Obcisor was distraught. His last hope at lengthening the fight. The hit that was supposed to heal him missed. All because he had evasion. The only reason he had evasion was because of his Mythical Class.

Obcisor got lucky. And in being lucky, got unlucky.

Had his taunt on David lasted all of its 5 seconds, he might have healed to full right there. But, alas, David had really good status resistance and his taunt lasted for less than a second.

David realized he was just standing still and started to attack once more with the flat side of the blade.

Within a matter of few hits, Obcisor's HP went below 50%. He was done.

'Sigh' Obcisor slowly started to walk back outside the enclosure.

"What's your name kid?" he heard behind him.

David was looking right at him. There was excitement and fascination in his eyes. Almost as if he just found a diamond in the rough.

"It's Obcisor" he replied.

"Obcisor, huh. My name is David. I will see you around kid." David said with a little laughter.

"Okay," Obcisor said and walked out.

An NPC quickly walked up to David and got Obcisor's assessment. Hearing the Assessment the NPC's eyes widened. He quickly backed out of the fighting platform. While doing so, he took a quick glance at Obcisor who was making his way out of the enclosure.

Obcisor walked out of the enclosure without looking back at what was happening in the fighting platform.

"Hello, what should I do now that the test is over?" he asked Jack

"Hmm... Go to that room and wait there. Someone will get you your Hunter card. Make sure you do not lose that number tag. That's how we will know it's you." Jack said and turned around not wasting another work.

Obcisor walked to the room. Inside the room were at least 20 people sitting in the chair laid about.

He found an empty chair and sat.

An NPC walked into the room and spoke out loudly, " Number 96, Number 97, and Number 98. Please follow me outside."

3 people stood up and walked outside the room to where the NPC had gone. Obcisor only remembered Number 96 because they were the first person to enter the enclosure for the test after he had just entered.

"Damn I hope I get F-Rank at least."

"Man, I so want the E-rank."

"I even waited till I reached level 80 to take the test, if I don't get at D-rank, I will be very sad."

All these people had their own hope and expectation. They all wanted their result to be good. They wanted good ranks.

This reminded Obcisor of his first time in the Hunter test after he had just awakened. He was one of them at the time, hoping to have done well enough for the testers to not notice his flaws or think a bit too highly of his achievements.

One after another, people got called out. Then more people trickled in. Then more people got called out and more trickled in.

Until

"Number 117, Number 118, Number 119, Please follow me outside."

His number was called.
