The Legend of The Grim Reaper

CHAPTER 8 — The Gyroscope

Heading to the southern part of Medronz, heading to get the gyroscope.

"We'll pass through the cave of Lades," Alrodes said.

"Come what may we shall all become. We must be prepared." He added.

"Cave of Lades, what should we expect? Alrodes you know Medronz better than us." Michael asked.

"We expect the little people, they live there, maybe they would help us," Alrodes said.

"Okay," Michael said.

They journeyed further into the south, going through forest, climbing hills and mountains. Days passed, they have wrestled with terrible creatures, coming out victoriously with little wounds.

Julie uses her communication device to get through to Fadarela.

Andrew helps tremendously in the achievements achieved so far. Soon they were in the cave of Lades.

"Cave of Lades, we have arrived" Alrodes announced.

They had hardly adjusted to their new environment when a little old man came to them.

"What do I owe this visit from large people?" The old man said hoarsely.

"Greetings old one. We need your help." Alrodes began.

"And who are those?" The old man pointed to Julie, Michael and then Andrew.

"My friends" Alrodes replied.

"Friends have no names?" The old man became impatient.

"I'm Julie" Julie put in sharply

"Michael," Michael said

"Andrew," Andrew said in turn.

"And you?" The old man asked Alrodes.

"I'm Alrodes" Alrodes introduced.

"Alrodes" The old man said searchingly, then he remembered.

"Oh! Lord Alrodes" He knelt. "Greetings great one" The old man bowed humbly.

"Forgive my manners. Didn't know it was you, I thought it was the tricks of invaders" The old man apologized.

"Stand up, wise one. We really need your help." Alrodes went down to business.

"How can I help you?" The old man said

"I' m Neruza" He quickly added. They got into the cave which immediately looked like another world. It didn't even look like a cave inside. In it, there were little houses, roads, forest. Just like another Medronz. But the outer look is of a cave. A cave that looks like a rock. Whatever the description.

The Nafitaths had gotten through the cave in the Lades.

"Silence everyone, pay homage to Lord Alrodes of Nafitath" Neruza announced.

The whole Lades bowed in respect, after which Alrodes released them. They waited to be addressed.

"We need your help" Alrodes began.

"We're at your service" They chanted.

"We need to get the gyroscope of Medronz, can you shed more light on how we can get it? The locator led us here, so it's up to you to lead us." Michael carried on.

Lovedo, the Lord of Lades cleared his throat.

"We have waited for this day to come. But Medronz looks calm without problem." He said.

"Medronz isn't calm at all. A part in Medronz, Homerlus isn't calm. We need to get to Homerlus and give redemption." Michael said.

"We'll help you, but first we'll entertain you," Lord Lovedo said.

"Take them to the ballroom! But first, get them splendidly dressed" He ordered.

Alrodes and his friends were dressed beautifully. They have to comply with the Lades' rules. They were treated respectfully.

Lord Lovedo wants to test them by making them forget their real intentions. Their intentions were to get help from the people of Lades, but in the midst of merry and good pleasures, Lovedo thinks to make them forget their intentions.

Four days were spent at Lades.

"We're staying longer here. We must speak out again." Julie said. She inhaled a deep breath then released it.

"What is it?" Alrodes asked.

"I saw Fadarela!" Julie exclaimed.

"Did she say anything?" Alrodes asked.

"Not yet. She looks panicked. We need to get to Homerlus sooner." Julie concluded.

Alrodes stood up together with Michael, they heeded to Lord Lovedo's palace.

"Awesome presence, what do I owe these appearances," Lovedo said with a face full of smiles.

"Lord Lovedo, we need urgently this Gyroscope. Our captives in Homerlus are in a panic. You aren't responding." Michael spoke.

"Now I know you are purposeful," Lovedo said, Michael's eyes seeking an explanation.

'I thought giving you some nice treat will make you blind to your mission, but it didn't. I better give you the gyroscope and not delay your mission. Lo -Arls!" Lovedo called to one of his guards.

"My lord!" Lo – Arls bowed.

"Bring me the gyroscope of Medronz' lands and kingdoms" Lovedo ordered.

"Yes my lord" Lo – Arls hurried off. Within minutes he came out with a brass colored gyroscope, handing over to Lord Lovedo who collected it.

"Here is the gyroscope you want." He handed it over to Alrodes.

"Give it to him" Alrodes pointed to Michael who stepped forward to receive it.

"It will lead you to Homerlus when used along with the map. Be careful, beware of Armadillos, they are dangerously seeking to possess the gyroscope and would kill whoever is with it, that's why I keep hold of the gyroscope because the cave of Lades can never be easily detected by any of the Armadillos or any who seek to wickedly possess the gyroscope." Lord Lovedo advised.

"Gyroscope! What's so special about it? Isn't it an apparatus used to maintain balance and determine directions?" Michael asked.

"Yes, it is. But other than that, the gyroscope gives the carrier the power to conquer and perhaps rule Medronz" Lovedo explained.

"Then why haven't you possessed the gyroscope fully since you have it with you?" Michael asked.

"Because gyroscope will only work for redemption, it came to my possession after the great fight between Aries and Grim, so definitely the gyroscope is for a reason and will only be delivered into the hands of the hero. That's why we waited long for you to come" Lovedo revealed.

"Now I understand" Michael nodded continuously.

"Lord Lovedo we sincerely thank you for your hospitality and assistance, we really need to go. We have spent five days in Lades" Michael said.

"Why? Wait till tomorrow and then you'll be gone!" Lovedo said.

"Thank you, sir, but we have to move." Michael made to exit.

"Wait!" Lovedo called.

"Let me do you one last favour" He said.

"Give me the gyroscope" He stretched forth his hand. Michael looked suspiciously, Alrodes nodded for him to give it to Lovedo, which he did.

"You need to trust me, though I give credit to your suspicions." Lord Lovedo said after which he laughed loudly, then chanted some incantations, turning the gyroscope to a necklace. The pendant is the gyroscope itself. The gyroscope was originally like a ball, but now it is made into a necklace.

"Have this, it's the least I can do?" Lovedo said. He gave it to Michael and urged him to put it around his neck. Michael did.

"I am really grateful Lovedo. Thank you" Michael appreciated.

"Thank you," Alrodes said after keeping mute throughout the conversation. Lord of Lades sent them off with lots of food, gift and clothes to sustain them till they reach Homerlus. Neruza escorted them out of Lades.

"Goodbye, till we meet again," Neruza said.

Michael, Alrodes and the rest nodded in appreciation.

"Take care," They said as Neruza watched their journey towards the north, as the gyroscope led.

"Bring out the map" Alrodes instructed. Michael brought out the map, he made it effective with the help of the gyroscope necklace. They journeyed far into the north.

They encountered the highway robbers and fought them to finish.
