"Melisa….where are you? Come out from whatever place you are hiding at because I am gonna find you," I called out angrily the following morning, knocking on her front door impatiently.
I was not one to entertain drama in my life but I just could not let what Melisa had done get past me. I did not care if her parents were home I just had to confront her. What she had done could have ruined my life if I had not thought of doing the tests by myself. The front door was opened by her mom with a confused yet scowling expression. Even back when we were dating, her parents did not approve of my and Melisa's relationship. I did not take it personally since I knew what my reputation was like around town. Not to that I was proud but people always judged and made opinions about everything. I admit to dating and sleeping around with some few girls from school but most of them made up stories just to get noticed around school.
"Why are you looking for my daughter, what do you want with her?" her mom asked still standing on the doorway blocking me from entering.
"Melisa come down right now or I will tell your mom what you did," I threatened.
I am sure they would love to know how evil you are," I added. The only thing her mom did was look at me confusedly wondering what I was talking about.
I must have woken up the entire family with my shouting because minutes later, her dad came down with pajamas still on and behind him followed Melisa. She had a fearful expression on her face and I knew that she recognized the reason for my visit. By now her mom had moved from the door and stood beside her husband allowing me to enter into their house.
"Mom, dad can you excuse us for a moment," Melisa requested.
"No I need to hear what all this is about. What is the reason he showed up to my house when I clearly stated that he was not welcome at any time," Melisa's dad stated as if to make a point. This did not move me at all and my stubborn self needed to call out Melisa on her action at least for my own peace of mind. I looked at her expectantly waiting for her to break the news to her parents but she did not. She stood like a stature staring back at me which made me think that she was deep in thoughts.
I snapped my finger before her while calling her which seemed to bring her back from her thoughts. She looked at me with pleading eyes wishing to be the one to break the news to them on her own terms. I however was not having any of it. Either she told them the whole truth or I would. Not only to clear my name and avoid rumors but to also make sure that her parents saw her for who she really was, a selfish and self-centered person who only cared about herself.
"Mr. and Mrs. McCain your daughter has something to tell you but I think you both should sit down first," I told them.
They seemed eager to know what this was all about so they did as I told them without argument. When everyone was settled in the living room, we all looked at where Melisa sat at a safe distance from everyone.
"Mum, dad I uhm… I'm pregnant," Melisa said while biting down on her fingers.
"What! What did you just say?" her dad asked when standing. He now began pacing around the room as the newfound information sank. Her mom just sat where she had been before with a hand on her mouth and tears rolling down her face. Her dad suddenly stopped pacing and came to where I sat throwing glares my way. I already knew what it was that he might have been thinking and I had to correct his thoughts before things got out of control.
"Mr. McCain it is not what you think can you let her finish whatever she was saying," I asked patiently.
"There is more than she has already said, please don't tell me that they are twins. We can barely add another child in our lives let alone two," he rumbles looking at both me and Melisa pointedly.
"Is he the father? Did he make you pregnant, tell me now. I need answers right this instant," he said pointedly looking between me and Melisa pointedly.
"Psh as if," I found myself scoffing unknowingly which I realized I said out loud from the glares I received from the McCains.
"What was that boy, I will not have you disrespect me in my own home, now I need to know whether this useless boy is the father right now," he said to Melisa.
"Can everyone shut up and let me finish whatever I have to say. Dad, stop interrupting me and let me finish," she shouts angrily already getting frustrated.
"I am pregnant but Josh is not the father," she says huffing and sighing. She looked down while fidgeting with her fingers waiting for the next question, which we knew what it would be.
"Well if he isn't the father then who is? As long as I know he has been your boyfriend the whole time," her mom who had been quiet the whole time asked confusedly.
"I….uhm…I don't…Idon'tknowwhothefatheris," she says all in one breathe.
"What did you say, can you repeat it slowly so we can understand," her dad now spoke up.
"I don't know who the father is," she said not daring to look up or meet anyone's eye. At this point I even pitied her. I could understand how much hurt it causes to be a disappointment to your parents. I know the only reason she was afraid of looking up was to avoid meeting the disappointed looks in their eyes. Although I felt sorry for her, I felt bad for her parents finally finding out that their daughter is not who they thought she was. Her mom who seemed still in shock from the news stumbled a little and was about to fall down but was caught by Mr. McCain.
