Rejecting the chance

AUTHOR'S POV:

Mellina is in her last semester of high school or should we say gonna get graduated.

She studies in a sports school where her father is Field Hockey Coach whereas she is a Basketball player.

The school doesn't operate like a normal school, they followed a different basis, anyone with money cannot join here but with talent.

It was a sports school that mainly focuses on physical activities along with studies.

The top athletes or sportsmen are drilled here.

Angel Felicia Primrose,

Angel is an intelligent girl who tops in her studies, unlike her sisters.

She hated sports!

She plays with numbers and sings well.

She will do anything for Mellina, she loves her the most more than anything in the world.

St. Michael's school of sports:

It was Mellina's Basketball coaching time.

She was the captain of her school team. They were practicing in the court as usual.

Her team members had great respect for her, for her attitude and skills.

She was best in what she does!

" Jen, here! " Mellina raised her hands showing her to pass the ball.

She bounced the ball to Mellina she took the ball and started dribbling, she was in the middle of the court that's when she saw her teammate without a defender.

She hook passed the ball to her, she converted it into a goal.

When the opposing team took the ball for a throw, their coach whistled them to stop the game.

They all assembled on the end line to wish the coach.

" Good evening, Coach!" They all said in unison.

" Good evening! Here I am with the good news, that we were waiting for!" The coach said with a smile.

Everyone in the team looked at each other.

" What's that coach?" A player queried out of curiosity.

" We have the got result of the National selections. And the happiest thing is 9 girls from our school have been selected for the team, Women's Under 23." He said enthusiastically.

It was not normal to have the majority of players from the same school.

But St. Michale's was an exception.

He read the list.

" Mel..... (He read the names)

Congratulations to you guys!

This is a new record we have created, 9 members from the same school.

And here I have another piece of news, even though it's not full good news but still Natalia Anderson, you are on the waiting list, you could join the team if anyone from the team couldn't make it. If that happens then it would 10 from St. Michaels! " Their coach said.

They congratulated themselves, everyone was happy. But Mellina was on her own thoughts. She was contemplating something.

Jeni shook Mellina by her shoulder.

Before she could speak, the coach continued.

" Your camp and training will start 3 days after your graduation ceremony. So be ready!" He said in a firm tone.

The things that happened next created havoc within the team.

Even after much havoc and consultancies, her decision didn't change.

" Natalia be ready to join the team!" The coach yelled in fury.

The team members were in fury at her, but she didn't bother about anything.

Yes, she rejected joining the team. No one could get anything out of her mouth, why she left the team, why she didn't want to join the national team. She said nothing, Nothing!

And then it is her character, what could they do?

It was evening when everyone was dismissed.

She knew if she stays for one more minute, there would be rain questions showering on her so she eluded from there.

Everyone was in the shower room searching for her but she was in the alley riding her bicycle to her workplace.

There were thousands of thoughts running inside her mind.

What to do?

What will happen?

Would I be able to do it?

If yes, how?

With many questions, she reached the book cafe where she was working.

It was 2 miles away from her campus, it is an evening cafe. The owner of the cafe works in the school as the librarian, soon after school hours, she opens the cafe.

Mellina works there only on the weekends, she doesn't get paid instead she gets to take any book that she needs and place it whenever she wants.

" Hey, Maria I am here." She yelled and dropped her kitbag behind the counter.

" What do you need for the evening?" Marie asked.

" Can I have a latte, please?"

" Sure!" Marie replied and went to brew her coffee.

And the evening flew very fastly, Mellina was totally into a book.

She didn't realize the time flying away until her Father interrupted.

" Mel, sweetheart!" He came and sat by her.

It was their routine, they go home together. As the school is just nearby they both use a bicycle.

They always pedaled back together on weekdays and would meet up in the book cafe as in the weekend the coaches have a meeting after the coaching hours.

" Paa!" She smiled, moving her eyes to see him.

He bent and kissed her forehead. She couldn't stop her lips from curving whenever he is near her.

" Did you think once again before taking this decision? You know it's not late to consider again" He said softly even after knowing the answer.

" I have considered Pa, you know how basketball is important to me in my life and also you know there are things that are important to me more than basketball! "

" I know sweetheart, it's okay I know it! I just want to confirm!" He stroked her hair lovingly.

" When is your graduation ceremony?" He asked even after knowing when it is. After all, he is a teacher there.

" Next week Friday, or should I say correctly 7 days from now!" She let out a sigh saying that.

" I think I won't be able to be at your graduation day!" He said sadly.

" Dad! Tell me that is a joke!" She exclaimed, straightening herself in the chair.
