Chapter 31: At the River's Edge

“Poison!” Rowan exclaimed.

The half-elf shrugged, “It’s a form of poison, and it is almost impossible to cure. We lost quite a few people before we discovered the cause.”

“Poison...” Rowan’s mouth dropped open as looked at their branch-wielding friend. “Oh goodness...the water?”

“Yes,” the half-elf nodded gravely. “This river flows through all the kingdoms, so it obviously is the best place to do such a horrible thing. Thank the heavens for the river lilies.”

The form on the ground moaned and began to move. The Elven general kneeled beside the prisoner and received a well-placed kick. Rowan and the half-elf joined in to subdue the fighter.

“Do you have anything to tie him?” Elduine huffed. “I have questions for him.”

“Of course,” their new companion reached into his bag and took out some cord. “My name is Atrian.”

Elduine stood up, rubbing a spot on his hip where he’d been kicked, “Well, Atrian, We are thankful for your help.”

Rowan stood quiet, looking at the river.
