Chapter 25: Cassie

More people joined them, making everyone shuffle around the table until the Bishops were closer to Cassie, who was having a hard time controlling her excitement. At one point, her mother said she was going to mingle, which Cassie knew meant she was going to say hello to Jack. Cassie wasn’t worried. Her mom was quite capable of taking care of herself. For now, Cassie was going to enjoy those around her table, especially the Bishops.

Every once in a while, Cassie caught Jessica shooting glances their way, then whispering to her small cluster of friends while shaking her head. There was definitely no love lost between the two women, which piqued Cassie’s interest. Everything she knew about Kristi Bishop was positive—wild, perhaps, but still nothing negative. She wondered if perhaps jealousy fueled the other woman’s sneers.
