Family 2

Doris POV

“Dad you have no right, no right at all to do this to me”. I am so furious right now, all I see is red, I mean how can my father do this to me? All he ever cares about is his god damn reputation. What am I even saying, God, knows how much that man cares about me. I feel like a brat right now.

“Listen to me Doris, you are going to marry Tia Jules and that’s final. I seriously don’t get it? What’s so wrong about her that you don’t want to marry her apart from that crap you always complain about?’’ . my father said with his authoritative voice.

“Dad please, I know what I am talking about here. There is absolutely nothing good about that girl, she is just after fame and money, how can you not get that father? I want to be married to someone who will love me, not someone who will see me like nothing else than an atm machine.” I tried explaining to my father as politely as I can because the last thing I want to do is go against my dad’s wishes. I haven’t even agreed to get married to that girl yet and she is already causing trouble for me, God knows what she will do if I agree!

“This conversation is not over yet young man, we will talk about this later! I am running late for my meeting.” My dad said while pointing a finger at me. I just decided to keep my mouth shut because I don’t want to argue about this, especially with my dad. I know that my father loves me and he is only doing this for my happiness. For the past 8 years, he tried everything he possibly could just to make me happy. Ever since mother left us, father lost a part of his too. His smile is no more bright than it used to be, he might seem happy to the world but I know that he still misses mom more than he let on. And if marrying that fake girl is the key to putting my father’s smile on his face again then, that’s what I will do.

I know that this will make me a selfish person but let’s face it, this girl isn’t even interested in me so if she is using my dad and I for her own greed then I will do the same to make my father happy. Or maybe I should call Jack, he might just know what to do. I run upstairs to get my phone from my room. God, I can be so irresponsible sometimes. Now, where did I put my damn cellphone, it should be on the dressing table? I head there to check but it’s not there, wait a minute it should be in my books drawer I will check.

“Uh, got it! Now let me call Jack.” He picks up after the 5th ring.

“What the heck were you so busy with that you can’t even answer your goddamn phone on time, Jack.”

“Hey hey! I am the one who should be complaining right now you prick! I was taking my peaceful bath and one minute your slow mind decided that they should call me. Seriously dude you need to date asap, at least then I will rest.” Jack started firing back at me, I swear he is so annoying sometimes, I know I shouldn’t have called him. Too late now.

“And just who are you calling slow-minded, when I see you next you are a dead man Jack.”

“Shut up little Nathanael and start spilling the beans.” There he goes again calling me little and with my middle name at that. But anyway at least he knows that I want to say something. This guy knows me so well.

“My father wants me to get married, he just told me today before going back to his meeting.”

“Auuuurg, every parent wants their children to get settled at some time in life Doris. Look at my mother, for example, she has been planning my wedding since I was 5, and Nathanael did I tell you that my dearest mother………….”

“Made you go choose a wedding dress for your future bride, you told me this the millionth time now Jack. But you don’t get it though, my father already arranged my marriage to Tia Jules.” I cut him midway, this guy never stops speaking.

“Holy shit man, don’t you hate that girl with every bone in your ass? You are in for some real shit man.” Jack shouting and laughing. Seriously how is this funny?

“Jack Thanes, do you use that same mouth to kiss your mother with?” I asked to get back at him for making fun of my situation.

“Man chill I get it now! How about we talk about this tomorrow over a beer?” and Bingo, I just hit the right nerve.

“Okay see you tomorrow then man.”
