Family Time 2

Mitsuna who was still floating in the void was looking at the notification in front of her as hundreds of titles spun by.

'Sword Saint, Wizard, Battle Maniac, Hard Worker, Esper. Mostly battle-related huh.'

'But more importantly,' Mitsuna looked towards the notification at her side.

'nearly extinct? What the hell?'

The spinning slot machine-like notification stopped and the moment it did, another notification sprang out in front of it.

'What does nearly extinct mean for my 'race'?'

The slots started spinning again.

'Is it that all dragons and phoenixes are nearly extinct?'

The spinning stopped and the same notification popped up in front of it yet again.

'Or does it mean that people with the same bloodline as me are nearly extinct? That would make more sense.'

This time a second notification popped up with the word [Error].

Suddenly all the notifications relating to the slot machine-like title generator disappeared and in their place, one with a purple hue appeared instead and slowly started spinning.

'If that were the case then it really would make a lot more sense since only me and Jameson have this sort of 'unique' race.'

Turning back to the slot machine of titles, Mitsuna looked at it in confusion.

'Wasn't it a different colour? And these titles...'

'Demi-Goddess, Saint of Life, Legendary Hero, Ancient Demon Lord, World Wide Catastrophe and even Administrator. Did this thing level up or something?'

Waiting for a while, the spinning finally stopped. Mitsuna couldn't quite get a good look at it as the void disappeared and she woke up in her bed.

Looking around, she could see the family surrounding her.

"Well?! What did you get?"

"I don't know."

"Well look!"

Her mother was easily the most excited out of the bunch.

Looking at her status, Mitsuna could see a new Title, using her skill to show her family, they had confused looks.

What Mitsuna saw was [Future Calamitas].

'An upgradeable Title with a strange name.'

What her family saw was... question marks.

"What is it? I can't see it."

"An upgradeable Title."

"But all normal Titles should be shown."

"Maybe it's different?"

"Mitsuna did you notice anything off?"

"The colour of the slot machine suddenly changed."

"What?"

"Oh well. Let's forget about it. Mitsuna you try to figure that Title of yours out and rest for the day. We are going to get ready for tomorrow."

"Okay, mother."

Watching her family leave the room, Mitsuna appraised her title.

...

"Ary. What was that?"

"I don't know, but go and find out anything you can about it."

"Already on it."

"What's so strange?" Jameson asked.

"Listen, Jameson, it is impossible for the system to show any favouritism to anyone ordinary."

"But Mitsuna could just be lucky. Besides, she is your daughter of course she isn't ordinary."

"I know dear. But... well you will find out when you are older."

Turning back to her husband, Aryamis spoke.

"Push her departure back a day. That Title could be dangerous for all we know."

"Okay. I'll call them."

...

Meanwhile, Mitsuna was squinting her eyes at the description of the Title.

[Future Calamitas - A Unique Title. The holder of this title will without doubt be one to grow into an unimaginable Calamity.

'Well, this is ominous.'

Trying to shake the thought, Mitsuna turned on her bed and fell asleep.

...

The next morning, she woke up like any other day and waited for her mother to come to get her.

Not having to wait long, Aryamis soon opened the door and pulled Mitsuna with her without a word.

'Good morning? No?'

Entering the dining area, Aryamis made her sit down with the rest of her family who had slightly sad looks on their faces.

Sitting down, Aryamis snapped her fingers and spoke.

"Sorry, we forgot to have cake yesterday!"

Seeing the guilty look on her families faces, Mitsuna tried to hold back a laugh.

"Pft. It- it's fine."

Chef brought a small cake to the table that he cut into six pieces.

Why six? He wanted to try it himself and one was leftover for another day.

Biting into the cake, Mitsuna could taste something resembling raspberries and chocolate.

Eating with her family while enjoying some idle conversation and a few more apologies, an hour later Mitsuna headed on out with her family.

"Where to first?" Aryamis asked.

"Let's just walk around."

"Okay. Don't worry, I issued a royal decree for everyone to stay inside except if they run a shop."

"You really didn't have to go that far father," Jameson said with a sigh.

"You think so too right Mitsuna."

"Actually I don't like being watched by a huge crowd of people bowing down." Mitsuna stated as she kept walking with her family.

"Hah! I knew it!"

As her father was celebrating, Mitsuna looked to see many knights and guards patrolling the area.

'Must be because of safety reasons.'

Looking to her right, she saw the man in glistening black armour again, the one she saw when she went outside with her mother for the first time.

Waving to the knight, she received a wave back.

Looking around, she saw a multitude of shops.

'Clothes, sweets, food, machines, armour, weapons, books, magic scrolls, jewellery, enchantments, potions, adventuring equipment and many more.'

Looking through the window of a shop selling machines, Mitsuna asked if she could enter.

Receiving a yes from her parents, Mitsuna pushed her brother inside as she looked at the many designs.

From moving gears to electricity and magnets. The shop was lit with glowing stones in the ceiling.

"Look, Jameson! Don't you think this is cool?"

"I don't see the appeal."

"Oh come on. Don't just look at it practically and its outer appearance. Look at the inside and all the small moving parts working together to complete a shared task! It's just like a well-built country right?"

"I guess."

"Hey, lass, good eye you have there."

An old man walked out from the back.

"May I ask who you two young fellows are?"

"Mitsuna and Jameson."

"Ah."

Bowing down, the old man asked.

"How may I serve you your highnesses?"

"I'm just looking around while pulling my brother around, don't mind us."

Looking outside the window, Mitsuna could see her parents trying to grab her attention.

"Oh. My parents are calling. Goodbye old guy, I like your machines!"

Mitsuna yelled as she pulled Jameson out of the store.

The old man, receiving a compliment from the royal princess, was fired up and started working yet again.

"Did you like it, Jameson?"

"A little."

"Hmm. I should find a shop you like."

"Isn't this your day out?"

"No. It's ours."

Pulling Jameson along some more, Mitsuna entered a few more shops but could find nothing Jameson was interested in.

Resting ok a bench, Mitsuna looked through the glass of a nearby shop.

The shop was simple and small selling painted pictures.

'Art?'

"Jameson. What about that?"

"A window? You're asking me about windows now?"

"No stupid. Look through the window."

Seeing Jameson squint his eyes, Mitsuna wondered a little.

After thinking a bit, she rolled Jameson inside the store after receiving permission from her parents.

"Look at the artwork. Pretty isn't it."

"Eh."

"*Sigh* Jameson. Try to understand the feelings of the artist when painting it, try to look through it."

Hearing Jameson sigh, Mitsuna looked towards him, waiting for an answer.

"I'll try."

Jameson looked at the art with squinted eyes but soon an expression of confusion flashed on his face.

"I don't get it."

"It's pretty. What's there to get?"

...

My whole life I have seen everything efficiently.

Thanks to my [Phoenix Eyes] skill I can see the practical use and description of everything I lay my eyes on.

I wondered why my sister, who shared the same skill didn't act the same way I did.

Since the age of 6, I have always had the skill on and since my sister had more talent than me I always wondered why she didn't keep the skill active.

Today she brought me and our family out.

She pulled and pushed me around different stores trying to find something I would be interested in.

To be honest I found a lot of things interesting but I also saw the multiple flaws in them.

The machinery wasn't timed well and the metal products were tempered wrong.

At the end of the day, she brought me to the last shop she had her eyes on.

A shop selling pictures that I always found useless.

She had kept telling me to look through things for a while now but with the skill, I could see through them perfectly. I did not know what she meant.

Until out of curiosity, I looked towards her and saw she did not have her skill active.

Looking at the same picture as her, I turned off my skill and looked at the art.

"I don't get it."

Was the only thing that came out of my mouth.

Without the skill, I had no idea what the painter envisioned.

'Is this what everyone else sees?'

Looking around the shop, I could see tens of beautifully crafted paintings littering the walls.

I had the urge to turn on my skill and check for any mistakes but...

"It's pretty. What's there to get?"

Those simple words had finally made it clear to me. Suddenly, all those windows that let you see inside the store finally turned seethrough for me.

The world would be dull if you only saw the positive and negative of every item and person.

Looking at the surrounding paintings once more, an urge burned inside of me.

'I think... I want to be an artist?'
