Cultural practice in the College

Matongo Teachers Training College, was a unit made up of several tribes; The Luos, the Kalenjins, The Maasais,The Luhyas, The Pokot and The Kisiis.

Every Language had Elders, they held meetings discussing their practises and farewell, most importantly was showing their caltures during ,Cultural day or graduation day, that was the most important day in the college, teachers quatters was situated opposite the college,it had enough field for every group to practice on their own, all members were interestingly involved. The Luhyas, headed by Khadiga and Lambissia, were taking the lower part of the field,Khadiga who was taking her father's name was a fairly tall lady, chocolate and charming,Luhyas were known as friends to all,in fact, they were easily interacting with other Languages without boundaries, most of Luhyas men were in relationship with Luos, kisiis and Kalenjins and their ladies too had no choices but was available and loving. Ambani who was a charming handsome man,was the greatest dancer in the group closely followed by Okalo, who spoke almost all Languages. This was a fair group, the Luhyas, they were ranked position one in the relationship, the Luos used to call them 'Semeji' because they intermarry easily with them. Their Love to Ugali lead to a Nick name 'Jomogo'. They had leadership qualities, mostly the college chairman would be easily elected from them. Their caltures were so interesting especially when they were demonstrating circumcision process! They dance swaying their hips in all directions, ladies who were in lessos, were amazing, their well covered breasts were moved skillfully forward and backwards making them to appear like Indian dancers. Their ability to associate with everyone was starring.

Kalenjins, who were known as "Jochak" due to availability of milk from their land , were not as many as Luhyas, they were jovial but not as much as Luhyas,Ladies from Kalenjins were very pretty and kind, they were so respectful and submissive, this trait salivated many men who wanted to get life partners from Kalenjins, what stopped many of potential men were the number of cows to be paid as dowry, it was clear that numerous cows were ferried during their marriages as compared to Luos and Kisiis who were married cheaply as low as two cows and a cock., due to poverty which was striking many of the families, interest of marrying Kalenjins remained dreams. Charity Chelangat the college chairlady was the best example to the all college. Her characters were distinguished. Her beauty and knowledge were admired, men lost words when with her, especially when one wanted to talk about Love with her, Eric Oyoo, a giant man was loved by this lady so much, but their relationship was converted to friendship, may be because of dowry burden. Men from Kalenjins were also romantic but they feared crossing the lines.

Kisiis who were termed as 'Joloo' because they were the owners of the Matongo land were the host amongst everyone, this group was headed by energetic men like Morgan who was nick named by his peers 'Team Liii' because of some traits he was known of. He was working closely with Boniface Bundi, Bonny whose relationships were not clear, due to his 'under water' movement was well known by his artist work, he lead the Ekegusii group in their dances and cultural activities, the Gusiis being the host, knew all the corners of the ridges, Obed was the route leader of the ridges, every weekend he was seen with friends especially ladies from other counties,he was also known as fruit supplier, he liked surprising people with natural fruits. One Friday, just before super,he almost died when he was gathering fruits from the tallest tree 'onjak' that place was well known as 'Shaddy square' named after mandazi seller who was called Shaddy. He nursed severe injuries in his leg,his leg born broke that made him spend several days in hospital, that evening no one ate meat except some few heartless individuals. The Gusiis were not as extroverts as Luhyas, mostly they were seen alone in their groups, they never allowed free intermingling of their ladies with 'other' people, except some few of them who became rebellious. Gusii ladies were very beautiful, others were saying that they liked double relationships. Calturally, their mode of dancing was vigorous and needed a lot of energy.

The Pokots were the minority in the college, their cultures never allowed free interactions. as other members. Most of them were under mercy of sponsorship of Arja and Osmo...
