Chapter 36

Lucinda's POV

I did a full 360° drinking in the liveliness and energy that surrounded the pier. From screaming children to prize machines going off at people's victory or loss to the fresh smell of funnel cake floating around the air I made a conclusion.

It's all horrible.

I preferred this place when it was night time when no one is here and I can make my own funnel cake.

I glanced over at Donavan to see that he was having similar feelings when a child carrying a cotton candy ran past him without failing to leave sticky blue marks on his leather jacket.

He noticed me looking and quickly put a smile on his face. I frowned at the sudden change in emotion. He asked me if I had any sanitary wipes and I gave him one.

He told me to pick out our first activity while he went to clean his jacket. I wondered for a bit looking at things that at least seemed the least torturous.

Shortly after my encounter with a bunch of crying children and then the frustrated cries of a man who couldn't arm wrestle a machine, Donavan joined me.

We walked until I came across a pop-the-balloon stand. The prizes hanging at the top caught my attention and I found myself walking towards the stand.

"Step right up! Step right up folks! Pop five balloons in one go and claim a prize... It's as easy at one, two, three!"

He seemed to notice us come closer to his stand and immediately turned his attention to us.

"You there! Young man in the leather jacket... Pop five balloons and you can win an awesome prize for your lady friend right there"

Donavan looked at me and I looked back slightly pleading him to do it. It's not like I couldn't do it myself... I just didn't feel like touching something that's probably been touch by thousands every day... And has never been washed.

I shudder at the very thought. This place is just a breeding ground for germs.

"Do you want one?"

He gestured to the prizes hanging on the stand. I looked at them but only one of them caught my eye. I wasn't particularly sure what it was but I knew I wanted it.

It looked like a cross between a rabbit and a duck with a lion's mane and tiny wings. To top it all off... It was completely sky blue. To say the least it was hideous... And I want it.

"That one"

I pointed at it and he followed my finger to the odd looking stuffed animal... Or whatever it is. He looked at me weirdly.

"Are you sure? That thing is ugly..."

"All the more reason why I want it..."

"Okay fine... So five balloons for the... Thing over there... What is that by the way?"

"Oh... I think it was a manufacturing error and my assistant must have put it up there by mistake"

"Well... This lady friend would like it so can I have the darts."

After handing the man some money he gave Donavan five darts. He threw the first dart and popped the balloon and soon enough he was out of darts and all balloons were popped.

"Congratulations Miss... You have won your prize. You have a very talented boyfriend."

He handed me my sky blue abomination and I hugged the life out of. I already love it.

"He's not my boyfriend but he appreciats the compliment that he could ever land a girl like me"

After that I walked away from the stand leaving a very dumbfounded Donavan before he decided to follow me. Unfortunate for me I wasn't looking where I was going and found myself bumping into a teenager who also wasn't paying attention to where she was going.

I felt the cold blue slushy run down my tank top soaking me completely. Instinctively I had already brought my plushy above my head to protect it from any of the liquid mess.

"Oh My God! I'm so sorry... I wasn't paying attention to where I was going"

"It's okay... It's not like I was doing that either."

After apologizing a few more times I finally reassured her that I was fine and she went along her way. I heard snickering behind and I turned around to scowl at Donavan.

How dare he laugh at me!

It's all his fault!

"You see! I told you!"

"Told me what?"

"Everytime I'm near you I always find myself covering in a drink or spilling it or in a body of water!"

"Don't blame your clumsiness on me..."

"I am not clumsy!"

"Right... At least you're wearing black"

If it was even possible my scowl got deeper. But then I felt something that made my face turn into one of disgust.

"I'm sticky"

"Well that's what happens after getting a sugary spilled on you"

"Donavan!!"

"Alright, alright. My apartments not far from here... Let's go and I'll get you a shirt to change into okay?"

I nodded sucking in my stomach to keep as much distance from me and the soiled shirt.

"Use your words Butterfly"

"Okay"

"Good girl. Now let's go."

I handed him my plushy and focused on keeping my shirt away from my skin. We left the pier and after a brief five minute walk we made it to an apartment.

We went into an elevator and stopped at Donavan's floor. I was so focused on my shirt I didn't even notice we were in the penthouse.

"You live in a penthouse?"

"Yeah... Something wrong with that?"

"No I'm just surprised... You don't particularly dress or look like someone who lives in a penthouse."

"Wow... I'm grateful and offended at the same time"

He disappeared into a room at the end of the hall and came back a few seconds later with a black shirt.

"To match your outfit..."

He said with a small bow and I almost rolled my eyes but then remembered earlier and decided not to. I opted to scoff instead and ask where the bathroom was.

After cleaning myself and putting on a fresh none sticky shirt I quickly washed my own in the sink. I hung the shirt on the side of the claw foot bathtub and met Donavan in his kitchen eating Oreos.

I was just about to ask for some when someone entered the penthouse.

"Babe do you have the- Oh hi Lucy"
