Chapter 47
Lucinda's POV
Usually a typical person would crumble under pressure and so much attention but I got used to it. I haven't gotten this much attention since I cursed at the crowned prince during they royal embassy meeting.
With much swagger and confidence in my step I walked all the way to my boyfriend, kissed him on the cheek then sat on his lap.
Donavan went ahead and leaned against the wall with his ever so present scowl on his face. Lynn frowned at the fact that he didn't even greet her but just huffed and crossed her arms.
Yearning to break the tension between us Diego stood up and cleared his throat to turn everyones attention to him.
"Now that Lucy and Don are here I can get to the reason why I called you here today. You are all wonderful friends and been so supportive of me and Mathias. In the beginning it was hard for us because the world isn't so accepting of people like me.
But after five years together we have decided that now is the perfect time for a future for us together."
Diego stuck out his arms to Mathias which he took and stood up, standing next to him. They looked at each other and smiled then turned back to us.
"We're engaged!"
Engaged?!
They're getting married?! I noticed that I wasn't the only one shocked but quickly processed this information and jumped up to wrap them in a tight hug.
"Congratulations! I'm so happy for you."
The others soon after joined me in congratulations of our friends' union. Diego got emotional and started crying while everyone tried to console him and we all just laughed.
"So have picked out your best men?"
Vic asked after doing a man-handshake thing and this suddenly got everyones attention. We waited quietly for them to say anything.
"That is the second reason why you're here. I won't be having a best man but a best woman."
Diego turned his attention to me and then walked up to me, held both of my hands and smiled.
"Lucy... Will you be my best woman?"
A pure feeling of joy passed through me at the honor that Dee wanted me to be his best woman. I jumped up and down and hugged him.
"Of course I will!"
"What?!"
We all turned to an infuriated Lynn who looked like she was just about to kill someone. Her chest was heaving and fingers digging into her palms. She huffed them proceeded to the door and left.
After her abrupt little show it left an awkward atmosphere in the room. My eyes flickered to Donny who looked completely unfazed and shrugged his shoulders. I cleared my throat and decided to change the subject.
"So Vic... Who's your best man?"
He got the hint that I was sending him and he rolled his shoulder and sighed slightly. He turned to Donny with a proud smile on his face.
"What do you say brother?"
Donavan raised his brows in surprise and pushed himself of the wall to embrace Vic in a man-handshake-thing with a smile on his face.
"You serious bro?"
"Never been more sure about anything in my life... You know besides my husband to be."
"Of course man... I'd be fucking honored..."
After many other congratulations and jokes thrown around we all sat together on a big makeshift table we made from pushing a bunch of small ones together while drinking a some coffee. Minus the presence of Brendaline which some of us - me specifically - enjoyed very much.
"Okay... Now that all of that is out of the way, time for the actual work part... And Lucy you already said yes to being my best woman so you can't back out."
I glared at Dee from across the table. He knows how much I hate work but he also knows how much I love him and would do anything for.
"Wonderful... So the wedding is a week."
"A week?!"
We all exclaimed at the same time. What the fuck?! Why the hell are they telling us now and didn't they just get engaged?!
"We understand the shock but for the record we've been engaged for a while. We just never got around to telling you guys because we've been so busy with Mathias' club expansion and the-"
"Hold up... Matty. You're expanding Club Red?"
"Yeah... I've been thinking of moving business downtown."
Isn't downtown where Amnesia is?
"But I've been having some trouble since some other club thinks that I'm stealing their business or some shit..."
Oh yeah... Of course Adam and Aiden would give him a hard time. Amnesia just happens to be the hottest club in the downtown area while Club Red is the hottest club in the uptown area.
It's obvious they'd think that their business is being threatened, considering that Adam and Aiden are quite intimidating.
"I'm thinking of putting the project on hold just until after the wedding and then deal with it..."
I nodded and turned my attention back to Diego. Glad that he got the attention back he enthusiastically clasped his hands together.
"Me and Matty already have most things taken care of but I there I certain tasks that I need Lucy and Donavan to complete. I'll text you the list later of the couple of things that need confirmation."
I nodded even though I dreaded what was to come. By 'most things' he probably meant the bare minimum and I'd be stuck doing wedding stuff all week.
"On Thursday we'll go to lake house where the wedding will be held. The ceremony should take place on Saturday and on Monday we'll head back here.
Lisa I need you on my decorating committee since you have such artistic taste and Matty will need Vic and Chase for something I'm not aware of but don't actually have time to care.
I will text all you details for what tasks need to be completed and so on. So rest up tonight cause it's gonna be a busy week."
I groaned and Donny chuckled at my misery. I smiled slightly at the delightful sound that brought joy to my ears.
After a few minutes of talking Diego chased us out saying something about us being fatigued and not being able to alert tomorrow. It was absolutely stupid but we went along with it.
After giving Chase a goodbye kiss and a hug to everyone I finally was on my way to my house. The night breeze blew against my skin and I found my mind wandering back to the moment I had in the gym with Donny.
Obviously something happened between us and there's some unresolved issues but the way he shut the whole thing down sent a rippling current of pain in my chest.
Uh oh...
I don't like emotions. Emotions lead to thinking and thinking leads to assumptions and assumptions lead to other things which make the relationship even more complicated.
Pushing the matter to the farthest place place in my mind I walked up my driveway and opened my door. I shrugged off all my clothing and changed into some pajamas and collapsed onto my mind. I tossed and turned a few times just to find a comfortable spot and finally my eyes drifted closed with the thought of Donny in my mind.
