Chapter 53

Donavan's POV

Eyes the color of honey, hair which shines as brightly as the clouds of a raging thunderstorm , skin so fair it resembles porcelain, lips so red blood could be jealous, delicate nature which has so much grace and poise, like a well breed dutchess.

No matter how much I stared at Brendaline across the table from me, who was scrolling on her phone, I could never find the connection. I tilted my head to the side and squinted my eyes a little bit but nothing came to me and it seemed to make me frustrated.

Why though?

"If I looked that good you could just tell me and stop staring..."

I seemed to snap out of my trance and was major league confused.

"What?"

She lifted her head up and lifted her perfectly manicured pink nails to her head and threw her hair behind her head.

She smiled with such excitement on her face. Did I miss something?

"I got highlights... Duh!"

She did?

I didn't even notice... I suppose her hair does look a bit shinnier than before but I didn't notice. I wonder why...

Snapping out of my stupor she smiled slightly and turned her attention back to her phone. I'm currently in a trendy coffee shop that Brendaline found on Instagram. Apparently she still mad at Diego for not choosing her to his maid of honor. So being at Tia's Café wasn't particularly on ideal at the moment.

I don't get why though... It's not they've known each other for long. To be honest I'm not even sure why I'm here...

Wait...

Why am I here?

"What are we doing here?"

She scoffed and smiled a little. She looked up with a confused expression on her face.

"We're on a date... Silly."

Oh... Really?

We haven't been on one of these in a while.

She turned her attention back to her phone. But if we're on a date shouldn't she be paying attention to me not her stupid phone.

What's so interesting on that thing anyway?

I looked down at the table and saw a half finished cup of coffee and I downed it.

Bitter.

Not like the coffee from Tia's Café. I sighed and looked at Brendaline again. Her brown hair was in tight curls today. She was wearing a lime green pantsuit and had a modest amount of makeup on her face.

Her lips were painted blood-red to perfection. There was not single thing fault about her.

Perfect.

She's always so perfect.

Frustrated with how this wasn't going anywhere I got up and went to pay for out coffees. Brendaline didn't even drink hers... After snapping a few pictures she said something about too many calories or something.

Then why the hell did she buy it then?!

Not wait... I paid. I huffed and walked out of the coffee shop without her. She seemed to not be aware that I wasn't in front of her anymore and kept scrolling through her phone.

For a split second a thought crossed my mind.

Why don't I just run?

I mean, she doesn't even know I'm not there... It would be quick and easy if I can just get past the glass win-

No Donavan!

She is your girlfriend and no matter how much it pains you... You can't run. At least when you know she's gonna scream her lungs out at you later, and you're gonna be stuck in a car together for 5 hours.

I tap on the glass wall until she notices me outside and carefully packs her things before getting up and walking outside.

"I can't believe you left me in there..."

I can't believe I didn't take the opportunity to run.

"Yeah well... Life happens."

She rolled her eyes and took her phone out of her purse. I glared at her before I scoffed and took out a cigarette.

'Smoking is bad for you', Butterfly's words reverberated in my brain. I glared hard at the thin tube in my hands and sigh-groaned.

I threw it in a trash can nearby along with the rest of them. I scoffed and instantly regretted it.

What the fuck did I just do?!

"Babe... Daddy says I have to pass by the restaurant before our trip so pick me up at my place in an hour okay?"

Before I could respond she kissed my cheek and walked off. I headed in the opposite direction to my penthouse.

To be honest I really should have packed yesterday but I was lazy so I guess I'm doing now. And by pack I meant throw a bunch of random clothing in an overnight bag and two pairs of shoes. Grabbed a razor, toothbrush, mouthwash, toothpaste, a comb aftershave, some 3 in 1 shampoo and body wash.

I checked my phone and noticed that I finished in less than 20 minutes and grabbed everything to put in the car. I would have taken my bike but... No...

'Donavan... We're a couple... We should show up together...'

I would rather swallow shards of glass, willingly.

Once my doors were locked I made my way to the garage and took out my car. With one last glance at my penthouse I drove to Brendaline's apartment.

The ride was short since we live fairly close to each other. After putting about a hundred suitcases in the car we finally hit the road.

Brendaline was using the car mirror to touch up her red lips. She had changed from her pantsuit to beige shorts, a white shirt and a cream wool knitted-cardigan. Still though she managed to look perfect.

Like she always does.

I was going to say something when my phone ran. I picked it when I saw the familiar contact and smiled. I answered.

"Butterfly?"

That's seemed to get Brendaline's attention. Long forgotten was the tube of lipstick but was replaced with a scowl.

"Hi..."

Her voice sounded sort of relieved that I answered and immediately I felt a sense of panic settle at the bottom of my stomach. I was about to respond when Brendaline interrupted me.

"Who the hell is that? Who are you calling butterfly?"

I ignored her.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah... I'm fine. You?"

"Pretty good..."

Now that you called.

I still couldn't shake off the fact that something was wrong. I felt a small tap at my arm and I glared at her accusingly.

"Answer me Donavan"

She articulated her every word with a harsh whisper. I still ignored her and turned my attention back to my Butterfly.

"You sure you're okay?"

She laughed slightly and my heart lurched. It was good feeling, like hearing her laugh brought me joy.

"Yeah... I just wanted to hear your voice. I'm kind of carpooling with three idiots so... Stressful."

The thought of her wanted to hear my voice for support sent a bunch of emotions to my heart which made want to do a back flip. Even if I'm driving.

Brendaline seeing as I was not willing to answer anything resorted to huffing and crossing her arms while she waited for me to finish my phone call.

"Wait what?"

She laughed again and I broke out into a full blown smile. My insides felt all tingly and warm.

"I'll tell you about it when you get here... I'm assuming I'm ahead of you?"

I scoff and chuckle at the same time.

"Yeah I just left town..."

"Seriously? Damn! Well I guess I'll see you later then. They're probably wondering where I am by now..."

"Yeah okay... See you later. Bye."

"Bye"

I dropped my phone into the cup holder and put both my hands on the steering wheel and sighed. I could see the storm brewing up inside Brendaline which was just waiting to strike.

This is going to be a long 5 hours.
